The conversation thread

I'm so glad that it seems as though y'all are all doing pretty well in spite of all the uncertainty and craziness of the world. I'm amazed at how much people are arguing over simple things right now. I know it's because people are being pushed to their limit with stress and uncertainty so they're more inclined to lash out when they wouldn't normally. I'm going to work very hard to stay well rested and take care of myself so I don't reach my limitations.

My dogs are playing right now which pretty much consists of one barking shrilly at the wild one zooming through the room.

Okay, I don't want to be a party pooper but I'm a worry wart and need to ask because this keeps crossing my mind.

We have such a decent community of folks here, has anyone thought of what we might do if/when the forum crashes?

I'm not sure if they will open another forum due to changes in laws and I know it has become too cumbersome to update and repair.

I don't want to lose everyone!

Anyone have a Plan B or C?

With that in mind, I try to keep another way to get in touch with those I really care about. Skype, email, a phone number. But, it still would leave a hole for those I enjoy posting with.

I hear there's a new thing called MySpace or something like that. Coube worth a try.

On puppies and gardening...

When Dogzilla was still just a pup, before the wife and my health got too bad to do anything about it, we went to the trouble of lowering our back yard and putting raised gardens around the perimeter next to the fence using landscaping timbers with buried seeper hoses and (since I know dogs) chicken wire to keep her from digging.

It didn't matter. She thought it was a slip-n-slide and would get a running start to see how far she could skid. Nothing ever survived remotely long enough to bear.

I had considered putting a top hatch of more chicken wire on a stretched frame over it so that Love could at least see if her black thumb could get something to sprout. But, by that time, it was too late as Love became all but bedridden and insisted her son take away all my tools after... (cough)... a few mishaps when the essential tremors got too bad.

Not sure it would have mattered, though. She pulled up a concrete landscaping stone from under the gate to teeth on. And chewed the corner off of it. Not to mention habitually chewing through the metal tags hanging off her "bling" when bored.

I considered doing the "topsy-turvey" thing, where you plant and then hang them upside down. But, I watched as Destructo-dog got a running start when she spotted a possum in a tree on the other side of the fence, and almost cleared a six-foot fence, half-over and face to face with one very surprised opossum. I'm just not sure that we could have hung anything high enough that she couldn't have gotten to if she'd put her mind to it.

"Challenge accepted!"

Oh, and gracie... if grey hairs are bad, then I've been fucked for a long, long time since mine started turning grey when I was eleven. (In my thirties it stopped turning grey, but only because it was turning loose instead. But, that's a different kettle of fish.)

Just tell the little wet behind the ears punks that you are prematurely grey like I was.

And if they snarf, ask if they want to live to turn grey too. :p

Yeah, mine isn’t working That bad. She just really likes veggies. She’s not a chewer.

That being said, fence next year.

Few are. I worry about the stray pitbull roaming the neighborhood, should he get too close to "her territory" while we're outside.

I don't know that my pretty girl likes veggies. I've seen her scoop up a mouthful of "poor man's hamburger helper casserole" (mac and cheese with seasoned beef and green peas with pearl onions)... and spit out the peas and onions.

Pecans, now. She will shell a pecan and eat the meat in two seconds flat.

I've thought about this sometimes, because one local site went kapow and left people struggling to reconnect.

A couple of people here have my contact info or know where to reach me on other platforms. Not very many.

I don't have Skype set up but I guess that could be arranged at some point. I just hate spreading my info into yet another media site.

As Seela, there's a couple of people that have my RL email in case of cat3 or above hurricane updates.

I don't like to think about this forum imploding and disappearing. I've learned so much here. However, I know there is beauty in the ephemeral.

Although work is pretty intense right now, it's going pretty well. I haven't had much energy to do anything outside of work this week though. That should change within a few more weeks though.

I don't like to think about this place disappearing either.

It's Friday! I'm ready for the weekend, although I don't really have any plans. Do you guys?

I'll have to try to find face masks somewhere as the rumor in the workplace cafeteria is that there will be a recommendation for people to start wearing masks at least in public transport soon. I wonder how makeup works with that. It probably doesn't. I'm screwed.

Friday night, a couple of gins down relaxing with some R&R.

We have been told here, for the first time, that all households should have a store of masks. 98 days no community infections, all caught at the border and in mandatory isolation. Clearly the secondary resurgence around countries has raised the concerns here and the risks.

Raining again and will do for the remainder of the weekend, feet up, fire on, all is good with the world in my bubble.

PS: seela, your AV is distracting, that delectable looking boob.

If there's someone with a distracting av, it's twister! Reese's Peanut Butter Cups ftw. 😍🤩😍

My weekend just started!

Beer or G&T, beer or G&T... 🤔

At work. Work has opened up to 50%. As good as it is to be busy, it's frustrating dealing with crowded hallways, cranky people.

Looking forward to weekend.

I used to hang out on General Board years ago. I recall an "insider" group for free up with drama and tried to start their own site. It didn't last long, from what I remember.

Couldn't a Facebook page be created as a Plan B? Or Fet? I think there is actually a Lit Fet page.

Hello, cookie!!!

G&T, seela. It is the weekend, after all.

Slim crowd at my workplace. If it ever does get back to normal, I think I’ll have trouble socializing again.
I’m such a loner type.

Morning. Double shot short black is my go to start of the day, often with a second one to follow.

Where you been, TC? Nice to see you again!

G&T it was!

On paper we're supposed to be 50% in the office, 50% working from home, but I don't think that'll be the case. There are 36 people in my department and some days I've been the only one in the office. Okay, it's summer so people have vacations so they wouldn't have been at work anyway, but I think it's going to be a long time until even close to 50% of the people are back int the office.

Because it's been absolutely quiet there since March, I now seriously struggle with all sorts of noises. I get distracted really easily and it annoys me so much when people talk in the halls. I have my own office but voices carry. It'll be a big adjustment for me when people truly decide to come back there.

Off to make some coffee now. On weekends it's usually oatmilk cappuccino for me from freshly ground beans and espresso made in a cute little Moka pot. :)
