The "Fuck you Covid19" thread

I am needing to vent about the crafting Karens who have laminated themselves these tiny little cards stating they're exempt from wearing a mask and that it's illegal to ask them about it.

Fuck you for using the Americans with Disabilities Act to parade around selfishly with an air of entitlement to skirt the rules. I saw a friend of mine who wasn't wearing a mask and she mentioned she can't and the store isn't allowed to question her. I explained that's not the rule, they just have to make reasonable accommodation for her disability. A guy with cerebral palsy rolled by with a face shield on. I suggested that as an option and she admitted she just didn't want to wear a mask. I'm pretty fucking disappointed.

I have asthma and sensitive ears (it's a thing). I have to wear a mask to do my job. Some days, depending on the procedure, I have to wear two. If I can stand in the same square for seven hours in a face mask, you can fucking put one on to buy your freaking milk. Or better yet, opt for curbside delivery. I live in the middle of BFE and our local store will deliver to your car if you need for no charge. There's no excuse for not wearing a mask in the store. Unless you're an asshole.

This. Especially the bolded bit.
Those fake excuse cards for not having to wear a mask piss me off.

Seemed like things were going pretty well in my state, but they eased up restrictions a bit and people got careless and now the case rate is rising again. Currently around 20/day so not huge by US standards, but enough to feel threatening.

Nobody wears masks :-/

Masks never really took off here either, but thankfully just getting everyone to stay the fuck at home for six weeks did the trick.
What's happening about border control over there?

Borders... I live near one to another country, and it’s only “essential” personnel who are allowed to cross either way. It used to be that you had to quarantine for 2 weeks if you crossed. Now it’s more strict on the general public, and more lax on the “essential” people who are allowed to cross when they want.

Borders between states are open, from what I know. There’s no real way to stop that kind of road travel.

This. This kills me. The cards kill me.

There is no scientific evidence to show that one cannot breath in a simple cloth or surgical mask, says the one who wears an N95 for 5 hours straight. 5!!!

I don’t get out anymore, and I gave up on any real social media time (for my sanity), so I had no idea this was a thing. Holy fuck, people are so selfish.

I hear you, Fara. 9 hours for me yesterday.

Where I happen to be stuck they just imposed another lockdown - a very draconian one - nothing, not anything, no store, no groceries, nothing is open for 7 days and in theory no one is allowed more than a few steps from their homes! The crazy thing is, compared to where home is (AZ) the cases here are nothing. But because of the severity of the lockdown my planned return home is probably going to be delayed (again) for a couple more weeks...

Fuck COVID-19

Incoming people from OS get quarantined for a spell, but one of the staff from a quarantine hotel caught it and took it home :-/

Internally, interstate travel is discouraged, especially from Vic. My partner had plans to go interstate to visit her dad, since he's in a nursing home and declining, but she wouldn't be allowed in as our area is now a hotspot. Vic had 75 new cases today so it's getting worrying.

Nine. Yikes!
Most of the time I'm lucky enough to be able to make a break every two hours and get a new mask. Nurses are incredible. 💛

The longest surgery I've ever had was seven hours and I wanted to rip my face off by the end of it. And I wasn't even wearing a N95 mask.

Like you, I'm not getting out and I'm also avoiding social media. The lack of scientific literacy in this country makes me want to scream. I can't handle the stupidity.

I'm not actually sure how they're preventing the hotel staff getting infected here - I guess extremely limited contact and massive PPE. That whole operation got taken over by the army last week. It's so weird watching things kind of get made up as they go along ... I mean, I have no idea how long the border control situation will (or can) last.

Covid is now clearly out of control in the US. The current version of the virus is 3 -9x more infectious than what we had here originally. We will shortly hit 100,000 new cases a day and people are still arguing about wearing masks.

Well, apparently the guards at some of our quarantine hotels were not wearing their PPE. And shaking hands and playing cards with returned travellers in quarantine. And sometimes sleeping with them.

No fucking wonder it got out of the hotels :-/

Such a simple thing and you would think they are being asked to give up their firstborn. If only there was a mask for stupidity.

I wouldn't be so exorcised over it if they were only hurting themselves.
Presymptomatic and asymptomatic people are responsible for so much of the new cases of this disease.

Fuck you Covid19

Had to change my flight home for the 5th time and now it looks like it might be delayed again for a month - I haven't been home in nearly 7 months! The first 3 were planned, the last 4 ... well, fuck covid!

I'm sorry you are stuck where you no longer want to be. That sucks.
Frankly, I am not enthusiastic about taking a plane anywhere anytime soon.

The idea of traveling for over 40 hours was not particularly thrilling. Was able to rebook for a more direct and shorter route, but that is up in the air now...

Travel is not most ideal, but at some point I'd like to sleep in my own bed!

fuck covid!

I understand your frustration. Personally I would probably survive it as I am not that old and have no underlying health issues but I do live in a 55+ community and there are many people in here who might not survive it. I just don't understand people who would not do everything possible to keep this from spreading. So feel free to yell and scream as much as you like. I will second it.

There are so many after effects of this disease. Yes, it's good that people can survive infection though it is still not understood why some people with no underlying conditions and of all ages do die of it.
A significant portion of people who "get over it" still have trouble with breathing, normal activities, extreme fatigue and neurological deficits months later. There is still so much we do not know and can't yet know about this virus because it is still so new.
It's a virus. Viruses are weird. We all know that a childhood infection of chickenpox can give you shingles as an older adult (usually 50+). We don't know what complications or late developing health consequences Covid19 will cause... in 6 months, 2 years, 10 years. We. Just. Don't. Know.

From a fellow healthcare worker:

Yesterday I evaluated my 3rd post-COVID patient.

And here’s what I keep thinking: the masking (to protect you and others) isn’t just to prevent death. That is not the only side effect of this virus.

My patients have had voice disorders from prolonged intubation. And with those voice disorders post COVID, some patient’s have had the fusing together of vocal folds, with surgery being the only solution.

My patients have had deficits in: memory, attention, executive functioning.

And although I personally haven’t had a patient with this yet, swallowing disorders after extended intubation (extended being 24-48 hours or longer) are PREVALENT.

These are huge financial burdens. Therapy is expensive and time consuming, and often these patients are unable to return to work or driving until their extensive amounts of therapy are completed and they are cleared to do so. Please, wear the mask.

I was intubated for several hours after surgery for a collapsed lung 2 years ago. I am still having issues taking pills due to swallowing problems.
Right after surgery I actually allowed them to give me some opiate based pain killers despite my request to not have any. ( I had to much fun as a kid and did not want any temptations) They almost had to give me a second dose but the nurses managed to get the Dr. to speed up his rounds so they could remove it.

I do not want to even imagine all the throat issues people have after weeks of being intubated.

Needless to say I am only venturing out once every about two weeks for food while masked.

FU Covid19

My city just went back into lockdown - only allowed to leave the house for medical care, essential shopping, exercise, and work if essential. 191 new cases today and rising quickly. I really hope we can get the lid on it before it grows much further :-/

Laying awake dreading going back to work tomorrow - actually today looking at the clock. HC worker.

Just, for everyone's sakes, wash your hands, socially distance, and wear a mask. If we can do it for 10 hours a day every day you can do it for 20 minutes in a store.

Du courage! :rose:

This may not be he place for this ramble but I need to put it some place. Sorry Cas for the hijack! I hope you can cut me some slack because I know you are so very aware of our tenuous hold on life especially these days.

I recently lost a friend and only found out by seeing a random post on a social media site. I don't know the how or why but it was rather sudden so it's doubtful it was Covid related as she had other health problems.

She and I had lost touch over the past 30 years but had managed to reconnect thru social media about 3 years ago. We once were extremely close and she actually was my matron of honor but when I moved out of state, we didn't have time to share all the little details of our lives and drifted apart.

She gifted me with a quirky coffee mug when I moved that became my favorite and to this day I think about her every morning when I make my coffee. So I was quite pleased to reacquaint myself with her via the computer. One thing led to another and we slowly slipped back into just occasionally touching base because RL got in the way. I never told her that I held on to that tiny piece that kept her with my all these years. I never told her that I started each morning with a happy thought because I would pick up that cup and think of her.

I never took the time.

Dammit, I never took the time. Two minutes! At the very most, two minutes. That's all it takes to tell someone your day is a little better for knowing them. Two minutes. One hundred and twenty seconds that I neglected to use for her and never can now but I can for another. In fact, several others.

I watch the world we live in now and feel that so many of us think we have all the minutes in the world left to accomplish this. We don't. Don't kid yourself, none of us do.

So for the Litsters reading this, my day is definitely better for being here and chatting with you. Thank you. And - maybe you should think about saying something similar to your own special people. Don't waste your two minutes.

:heart::cattail:I

Fuck you Covid19!
