A beloved teacher of my husband's died this week.
Though I didn't know him, I cried as I read the email aloud.

Exactly. I knew her...but I didnt. That side of the family, for some old argument reason, almost never hung w my side of the family. But a life is a life...and she was on my Ancestry.com pedigree. I feel bad for my mom...she is the last of her generation now, and it hit her hard. This is a shitty virus.
 
My state is making plans to "reopen". I haven't been tested; nobody I know has been tested. The clusterfuck continues...

A friend recently lost her husband of 50-odd years to old age. In a normal world, I and others would drop by and visit...maybe take her to lunch...but no. You don't have to test positive to be a victim.

I find it interesting how different countries are tackling this.

Here almost no one wears a mask. I've seen maybe 30 people wearing a mask, total, during this whole pandemic.
 
a higher percentage of people are wearing masks every week here. I would say it is well over 60% now. Costco is now requiring masks for everyone over 2 yo to enter the wearhouse, though I hear stories that continuing to wear a mask once inside is not being enforced.

One of my relatives says that she is not able to tolerate wearing a mask of any kind as she has a total panic attack and feels like she is unable to breath while wearing one. Obviously she is having a stress/ anxiety reaction. She probably needs a therapist or a dom to talk her through her fears and work up to being able to wear one for 20-30 minutes in 5 minute intervals.

I have started to carry masks in individual zip lock bags to offer to anyone who is not wearing one.

I am dismayed at the ineptitude of my government to do anything that really needs doing well. Testing. Procurement of and distribution of essential supplies and PPE to everyone who needs it including low wage essential workers of all kinds. Food distribution to those who need it. We are failing on most every metric. I think this may be the dying days of this great experiment.

Where I am at the government tried to impose the wearing of masks, but no one has proper ones or even wears them properly. More recently they imposed a nightly curfew from 6 pm to 6 am after being open during the day - it serves no purpose whatsoever except to harass the Muslim minority population who are celebrating Ramadan now and the breaking of the daily fast is around 6. Various people have tried to transport fresh vegetables and fruits that are rotting in the villages into the city - but they are arrested, beaten, and their goods confiscated (stolen) by the police.

Fuck you governments of the world and your stupid ass, contradictory, self-serving, bigoted, asinine, irrational, and reckless responses to covid-19
 
I was ambushed today...I saw her closing in fast, arms outstretched. I tried to wave her off, but she was not to be deterred. "Hugs are essential ", she cried, and then it was done. Goddamn. Just too adorable, I guess.

But seriously, there's no defense for that.

Our own government here in the US is becoming more and more like yours every day- and virus or no virus, I am really scared about the outcome of the next presidential election.

Being single and alone, it's hard when whole days pass by where I don't even speak to a single human being (except maybe on the phone.) They say "we're all in this together" but in reality we are not- we are all like six billion castaways, each one of us stranded on their own desert island. At least, that is what it has been like for most of this.

At some point, I'd honestly rather take my chances with the virus, than live in fear, isolated as a prisoner in my own community. I see events being cancelled clear up to Christmas and beyond, and I think "Why?" Easter has been cancelled, concerts have been cancelled, it is impossible to have any kind of social life (let alone casual dating) and it sometimes feels like life itself been cancelled as well.

Prayers to all of you out there, to stay healthy and safe, and that this will all end soon.

She's an older woman, an old friend.****de and hurtful ain't happening.

I only mention all of this to make the point how extraordinarily difficult it is to maintain spacing.

Sigh.

I totally understand but I'm at the opposite end. Everyone looks at others suspiciously like they expect to be coughed or sneezed on.

I'm not sure which is worse.

Our county is finally opening this next week but it may be some time before I will sit in a restaurant. Luckily my hairdresser is a single owner so he can easily limit customers in the shop. Other than that, I can do without.
 
Serious disease, for certain demographics.

Not fun for anyone who gets a bad case.

Worth trashing an economy over? Worth spitting on liberty over?

I don't think so.
