The "Fuck you Covid19" thread

The anti-vaxxers have begun to stir.
There’s no vaccine, and they are already saying they won’t get it.

If we tell anti-vaxxers that if that haven't been previously vaccinated for measles and polio and other nearly eradicated diseases that they cant have the vaccine, will they start demanding it?

I have no patience for them.

The governor of Georgia JUST held a press conference stating he just learnt about asymptomatic carriers and thinks we should do something.

Uh, no shit, Sherlock.

I've been cooped up at home for twenty six fucking days, moron.

How the hell is the CDC in that state and their leadership so dense. I am angry at the utter incompetence of our leaders. Like, how?

Some of these people are phenomenally stupid, but some are just outright sociopathic evil pretending to be stupid.

The senators who got private briefings about how bad it was going to be, and then bought up stock in PPE manufacturers and work-from-home software companies while they played down the threat in public - not stupid, not exactly incompetent, just that they're acting in their own interests and willing to kill people for a few extra dollars.

OTOH, I think some of them actively cultivate ignorance, because they actually see learning as the enemy, or because they've decided it's not in their interests to be informed. If you're already committed to aligning with 45, you need to be able to shift with the wind, which is easier to do if you have less information.

The politics of people's lives...

I've been preparing for a flu pandemic since I was in high school. When I enlisted in the military, we drilled for this every day for 60 days. We were prepared.

I am so thoroughly disappointed in how poorly America performed in this. The more I learn about our response to this, the harder it is to stomach. We shouldn't need bloody whistleblowers in a time like this, but we're no better than China.

In fact, I think we're worse.

Yes. I think we are worse.

This is Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario (the grim faced woman behind him is Christine Elliott, Minister of Health). Premier Ford is the older brother of Rob Ford, infamous mayor of Toronto.

He's kind of a assertive / aggressive pushy impatient man. On Friday he gave one of the most stark, honest speeches I have heard from a politician. He was on the verge of tears as he said simply that if we don't do the things we've been told to do (social distancing, hand washing, stay home) there will be another 1600 deaths from COVID-19 in Ontario by the end of April. That's on a population of 13.5 million. If we smarten up, that will be 200.

I think people needed that kind of honesty.

So far, the governments here have been responding very well. I'm kind of impressed with Premier Ford and Prime Minister Trudeau. They are listening to the experts That means something.

Now, if we can just start making our own masks...

I've always considered myself a pretty rational person. Overall in life, I'm fortunate with a strong support network of friends, family. I am currently working and have health benefits and a roof over my head.

This anxiety that's simmering right under the surface is new. It's different than the stuff I dealt with in the past.

Some of it (a lot of it?) is the uncertain future -- especially for my friends, family who are losing jobs, who can't pay rent, whose kids are cashiers at grocery stores, educators trying to figure out long distance learning.

But added to this is an anxiousness over our lack of leadership. The dishonesty, gaslighting. Playing politics with PPE, with financial help.

It's unnerving, at a time when we should feel confidence in our leaders.

Cookie, you've put into words how a lot of us are feeling. I try to find analogies -- as if we are in an airplane with no pilots, uncertain amount of fuel, no airport landing sites in view, no one knows how to land it anyway, only half the oxygen masks needed, and the lavatory no longer flushes, and no way to recharge our cell phones to call for help. I keep looking for Indiana Jones in the passenger listing...

Our elder care facilities are all locked down tight...no visitors. Period. I haven't seen my mil in weeks, and may well never see her again. She's 99. :(

Fuck you CV19.

Not only are our leaders not performing their duties...they demonize anyone who suggests the "emperor has no clothes". When do the two parties pull together and say enough to the incessant lies and half truths and dodging responsibility. He says it could be 200,000 deaths so that when the number is less, he can claim a victory. Makes me sick FUCK YOU COVID19!!!

I just went to the post office. There were more people than I expected to see out and about. Maybe half were not masked. Jerks.

Agree with this 100%. I'm in BC and our provincial response has been calm, honest, direct, and empathetic. Our Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, and her sign language interpreter, Nigel Howard, now have fan clubs, lol. Overall, we're starting to see our provincial curve flattening--hooray!

I live on a small island and it's been impressive to see how quickly our community came together and how good everyone is being about isolation, quarantine, and social distancing while still caring for our vulnerable members. I started a "caremongering" Facebook group for our island, which has become a branch of our emergency services now. I know there's a lot of bad stuff out there but this crisis has brought out the best in so many folks and that makes me hopeful.

Now, if we can just start making our own masks...

Well, we ship the special pulp that 3M requires for N95 masks, so it's not out of the question! :) Locally, through our FB group, we've organized a group of volunteers to sew non-medical grade face masks for our community. They will have 2000 by the end of this week, which will cover 2/3 of our population!

Anyway, hope everyone here is doing well and being extra kind to themselves these days! Special love and hugs to all those essential service peeps who are on the frontlines of this. :rose:

My sister in law organized a hand sewn mask drive and in less than a week 10,000 masks were made and donated.

Anyone need patterns that I can vouch for, let me know. Or I'll just post links later when I have a chance.

School is officially closed until the fall.
I weep for the kids...especially the class of 2020.

Fuck you Covid19

So many reasons to scream fuck you.

I have a friend who reached out for help to pay April rent. The fear and shame that went in to the request was humbling.

Fuck you covid19.

I'm helping some people. I try to anticipate their needs, and spare them that pain. Some would starve before they'd ask.:(

We may have plateaued here, there just needs to be a few more days of stats to see. And bugger, the local neighbourhood gathering has been cancelled.

Huh, the dude who keeps plugging an unproven medication as a magic bullet turns out to have a stake in the manufacturer of that medication. Most foreseeable event of the year.
