It is raining here right now and has been for days.

No rain today, but we sure have had our share here. What I meant is I saw something on TV today about the documentary by Al Gore. It's called "The Inconvenient Truth" and they actually showed an animation of how the largest part of The Netherlands will flood permanently when a large part of Greenland breaks off, which they claim will happen.

Now, I'm not an invironmental activist and never will be. I'm also convinced, somehow, that this will take so long before it happens that none of the direct offsping (I don't have anyway) will ever see any of this.

What that animation mainly did was convince me even more that I really, really need to move to the South of France

Haha, that's a common statement. They are okay though. There are some differences and you and I may find some things strange, but I'm sure that goes the other way around too.

Besides, I don't plan on actually living WITH French people...
Honestly, they are quite OK and the country has so much to offer, including the nice weather in the South.

my feeling is that the "south of france" is almost considered a completely separate country... with attitude and culture that is vastly different from most of the rest of the country. i don't know if that's true or not but it's the sense i get.

Have you been there? I don't know. People in Paris are more harsh, like in any big city. So people in the countryside are more friendly. The variation also lies in the fact that a large part of the South of France is VERY touristic, which also makes for a different attitude. I have dated a Frenchman (long ago) and I've been to France many, many times. I've been to almost all parts of the country and I like it everywhere basically. But SOF is where I want to live. It almost feels like I belong there. The temperature helps too. Very much so.

no... i've never been to france... that's why i said it's just a sense i get. i know what you mean about feeling like you belong somewhere. i've always felt like i belong in new england. like you, it's the temperature and climate. unlike the south of france, however, my preferred climate is cold and gray. i'm pretty sure i'm in the minority there. i'm all about cold, dark and damp... maybe i was a mushroom in a former life.

Some would consider you young...so take bg's advice...you're only as old as you feel....and most days that makes me around 35
