The infamous LW anonymous comments controversy

No, really, he's never met a Lit. writer, so it's a safe call to make.

I've met two litsers, but neither were writers.

It was my wife's idea they were only a few hours from us.

I warned her what it would turn into and she didn't believe me.

The look on her face when the husband asked if she wanted to be with him first or watch me with his wife first was priceless.

They were a little put off we weren't game. Apparently "just dinner" has different meanings.

I bleive the call for LW stories being submitted to fetish

comes when the protagonists is a WILLING cuckold and revels in his own humiliation. Some stories go so far as having the protagonist participate in a gay manner.

Wife swapping, extra-marital affairs, etc. are accepted by most LW readers as part of the genre, but a man who surrenders his wife to another man then can't help but get a hard-on when his wife and lover degrades, humiliates, and dehumanizes him, is where the controversy comes in.

Personally I agree. It seems contrary to human nature to me, so in my book, I believe that kind of story belongs in fetish, but recently the entire LW genre has been taken over by that kind of story so I appear to be in the minority.

Credit where it is due.

Never Again

Where does he get this pathetic shit? I got sick of picking the corn out his verbal diarrhea on the second page and had to stop reading. Awful. Just awful.

That is an all time classic line right there!

excellent. :D

I had a really dumb idea while reading some of the posts in this thread. What if a lot of the LW comments are from a small group of people who, for whatever reason, make the comments as part of a mission to discredit the authors and Lit and erotica in general.

Perhaps a small church group from a fundamentalist sect. Their pastor has told them about Lit and how there are stories where women don't know their place and put themselves above their lawful husbands and masters.

So they go in and write their comments and 1-vote the story to punish the author.

I lived in Texas for 25 years, earlier in my life. I have met people who belong to churches who would do it if their pastor told them. And do anything else he told them to do. Scary people.

OK so does this make me a paranoid conspiracy theorist?

I knew Fred Phelps had something to do with this. I just knew it!

I know

JBJ is one of the kings of LIT., but I have to disagree with his second comment that he turned off all anon comments because they're only filled with vitriol or useless flattery.
Although it has only happened a couple of times, I did get some constructive criticism from an anon comment.
As to the OP original question, there is a delete option for any comment an author feels is too far over the line.

Oh, I think most authors here get more praise from anonymous comments than criticism.

Most comments from anonymous are encouraging.

But its like anything else; the loud obnoxious nasty ones get all the attention.

IMO turning off anon comments will cost you more than it will save you.

Just allow them and if you feel you need to delete the ones you don't like

Turning off anonymous comments?

I've heard several comments on this thread that mention turning off anonymous comments. I didn't know that you could do that. I thought it was turn off ALL comments or allow ALL comments.

How do you just turn off the anonymous ones? Seriously. That is a great idea at least for LW stories.

Go to your story viewing page.

Click main, then click options

You will see a separate line to accept anonymous comments

Do they think all caps make you take them more seriously?

I've noticed many of the more obnoxious ones do that.

But as for the comment itself

Isn't that a complement for you?:D

Hey, not new to reading on lit, but new to the boards.

Wanted to toss in that as someone who comments frequently(but yes as anonymous up until recently) I never understood what thrill there could be in being this obnoxious.

From what I see on "author side" in this thread is they are either deleted or laughed at.

If a story upsets me that much odds are I will pick up on it fairly early and not finish and if I don't finish I don't vote or comment.

There is an expression that alcohol is liquid courage.

The internet is "no one knows who I am" courage.

^ This.

The funny thing is, most of the comments that support those types of fetish stories and "wish it happened to them" are all anon's. The HOF and scoring system also kinda indicate these sort of stories never do well in LW.

Just saying.

As noted by others, post a story in LW at your peril. I've just added a new one, and it is receiving the full treatment. If you ask me, it may not even belong in LW, because it really doesn't follow the normal story line one might expect. Not saying that would matter anyway. They sniff them out like bloodhounds to have their say.

I have the usual assortment of comments, some positive and some negative. The rating is where the story is really told. Right now, it is sitting with a rating of 3.15. My next lowest rated story was a tale of a wife who's husband thought she had cheated, and hadn't. He divorced her, and she did then sleep with the man she was accused of sleeping with. That one sits at a 4.07.

If I compare that to the average rating for my stories of 4.41, it is easy to see how folks hammer these stories. That 4.41 includes ten-eleven early stories that were poorly edited, and one story that was a quick rush job I threw out there, as well as the aforementioned 4.07. My real average is closer to a 4.6 rating.

Some LW writers that have a large loyal following can overcome the one bombs. Someone like me has no chance.

I've put up enough stories and seen enough on here to understand what's going on and ignore it. I feel bad for the first time writers who do a great job and then get creamed and never post again.

At second glance, most of the feedback I've received so far is positive. It's the overall rating that has been dinged. I recently posted something asking how you get comments. I think the answer is write something in LW. :D I guess you get both the best and the worst in this category.

Almost all of my stories are in or could be in LW. I don't know if I am like very many but the reason I began writing is because I could never or rarely find a story that "did it" for me. Often times a story will begin a flow well until the end when something happens that takes me out of the story.

Before I attempted my first story I was aware that they types of stories I liked often got flamed by trolls. I was ready for it and found it quite amusing that my little story caused so much anxiety in people. I then started adding headers explaining what the story was. Here is an example: Warning, this is a tale that deals with adultery. If you do not like such stories then move on to something you will like better. If you read and then post nasty or hateful comments then I will laugh at how pathetic you are. If you actually have constructive criticism that could help me improve my next story, then I would love to hear from you.

Here is my favorite reply to the story and my warning: I like swinging and have done so as a couple for

many years on and off. However I dont condone lying cheating betraying adulterous spouses, male or female. I can laff at you, not you at me. You tell a story of a woman to dumb to know she is fertile and taking the sperm of an opposite race person into her womb. After writing so nicely how she had gotten it out of her system and wouldnt do it again. You paint a story of a woman with very little love for her husband, with no morals or ethics, who places herself and her husband in harms way from various STDS and AIDS by unprotected sex. It is one thing to have sex and place a spouse in harms way with their prior consent and knowledge, they accept the risk. It is quite another to do it without their consent. Most of us that are really swingers would consider someone infecting their spouse with AIDS murder and I remember a few men and women who killed their spouse because they did infect them. Time to mature little one, it is a real world and writing fairy tales needs to be in the I'm really immature section. I hear this it is just fantasy, yeah sex is just fantasy until you do it. What is fantasy one day is reality another, grow up.

After having a good laugh at this I just want to say in the words of Sgt. Hulka "Lighten up Frances".

it is surprising

The first story I posted was in the loving wives category, but I didn't realize the implications of that category. I was quite surprised at first at come of the comments because they didn't really say anything specific--so they really aren't helpful. After getting over the shock, I decided it was a little bit fun to field these comments. So bring them on!

I have a lot of H's and quite a few high scores.

having said that, the score that I am most impressed with is the 4.41 I have on a LW story. Especially seeing I made the husband the cheat and had the wife get back at him in brutal fashion.

I think a loyal following helps there, LC. Not that your writing doesn't deserve high scores. For me with virtually no following, I'm going to get hammered. I am amazed at some of the high scores on LW. There is so much effort made by so many at driving them down.
