The Isolated Politics Blurt Thread I: A New Beginning

After seeing many yard signs for candidates, I realized I did not look far enough down the ballot to that position. I checked the candidates and found one I like more slightly more than the rest. I checked the primary results. That candidate lost by less than ten votes. With my vote, that guy still would have been first loser. And that is probably the closest I will ever get to my first choice winning a race.

it's hard to blame people for trusting in sources they should, in reality, be ABLE to trust... be it news, social media, elected officials and the leaders of their country.

when there's an unwillingness to promote truth and refute lies, with financial/legal repercussions, minds are easily poisoned.

when it gets so bad that 70 court cases proving the 2020 election was fair and the results genuine, it's a long detour to get back onto the right track.

The nation's narcissists are out in force with shouted demands to vote for their preferred candidates and insults for dissenters. Most of the rest of the nation is quietly gray rocking the whole scene: do not engage, give only vague noncommittal answers, and let this be settled on voting day.

And “Fifty Years Of Trickle-Down” made social security and Medicare insolvent, so now the average person will have to accept some negative changes to retirement or benefits, while the rich remain insulated from any negative consequences- if DonOld Trump and MAGAt "republicans" reclaim the presidency and total control of congress, etc.

The World bank withdraws all advertising from X after its ads show up beneath racist and pro-nazi posts

The World Bank has ceased all paid advertising on Elon Musk's social media platform X, which was formerly Twitter, after a CBS News investigation found promoted advertisements from the organization showing up under a racist post from an account that prolifically posts pro-Nazi and white nationalist content.

"The World Bank Group had already reduced its paid marketing on X while working with the platform to implement the strongest safety protocols X offers for our content," a spokesperson for the World Bank told CBS News on Friday, adding: "This latest incident is entirely unacceptable, and we are immediately ceasing all paid marketing on X."

A promoted advertisement from Saudia Airlines, the flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, showed up under the same post as the World Bank advertisement. CBS News has sought comment from Saudia Airlines on the placement of its advertisement and on how the airline determines whether and how to spend money on the platform.
In public court filings unsealed Tuesday, it was revealed that Kingdom Holdings, a Saudi Arabian conglomerate operated by members of the country's royal family, is a key investor in the X platform. Saudia Airlines is owned by the government of Saudi Arabia.

Royal Society considering booting musk

However, there are concerns that any move to eject Musk would have to be based not on his views, but on his ability to amplify his beliefs, and concerns that his influence could cause serious and intentional harm.

The Royal Society’s code of conduct and disciplinary regulations state: “Fellowship and Foreign Membership of the Society is a privilege predicated on adherence to particular standards of conduct.”

Among other points, the document says: “When speaking or publicising statements in a personal capacity, Fellows and Foreign Members must still strive to uphold the reputation of the Society and those who work in it, and be mindful that what is said or stated in a personal capacity could still impact the Society.”
