But i think since garrett was such a bad person perhaps serena stayed away from him. But with Galen she knew he wouldnt do anything to really hurt her despite their rivalry.

Yeah Garrett was a sociopath almost a serial killer and I always imagined Serena was a little scared of him, especially with the predatory looks he gave her growing up. Probably wanted to cut her open and see what made her so different on the inside to deserve their mother's love and he only ever got her pity or repulsion from her. Garrett was not really right in the head, and Nyra did the kingdom a service in killing him when she conquered the palace.

What do you think of saying their father, the king, knew she was adopted because their mother wanted a daughter but not from him and unfairly resented Serena because of it.

All of this tells me that their family was very disfunctional and very strained, but over that they had a very thin veneer of stability maintained fastidiously by all of them especially their mother.

Good idea when we introduce it re the father.

I thought the original idea was that she lost the child in childbirth and that he loved her enough to to replace the baby with another from another village. Knowing how much she wanted a girl.He knew but the mother and rest of the family did not.

He could have come to resent his actions later or even find himself attracted later to her hence the distance.

That’s why I put the poison bird/ cuckoo reference .

We've done some good developing of the old royal family but not much on Nyra's people.

There's a hardline faction that wants more bloodshed and retribution for all the years of oppression they suffered under their father's rule. And perhaps a spiritualist faction that deifies Nyra as their messiah and dislikes her cavorting with lesser beings such as Galan and Serena, and would like her to stop pursuing such venal pursuits as the pleasures of the flesh. And then a loyalist faction who follow her as something of a cult of personality, but they support whatever she wants to do simply because she wants to do it. That's my thinking on them. What do you guys think?

Only the midwife and the father knew. He made her real family "disappear". We discussed that midwife confided in the cook who in turn eventually tells serena.

Oh yeah that does sound familiar. Okay let's go with that but say the king started getting resentful towards Serena.

Finally posted to wicked. That scene with Meredith was a real beast for me to conquer. I'm actually quite proud of how well I did with the end result.
