My perfectionism is really getting to me this morning.

I'm looking at this really cool new design that is an underbust corset with full coverage halter attached, and all I can see is where this side is 1/8" higher than this one, and that seam is 2mm wider than that one. Seriously, I can't seem to see past the imperfections on this one, and it's one of my better prototypes. Like the best first run I've ever done.

You can actually use this to your advantage if you will use the prototype as a selling tool. Others will probably not see the small discrepancies you point out, so you "notice" them while showing the piece and say . . And that's why I make prototypes, the production piece can be improved upon. Big smile :D And they are impressed at your sharp eye, and you look like the genius you are! ;) That is, as long as you can sell your "discovery" performance. If not, warp this until it works for you, :)

I understand your 'fussytude' but CnC is right, the average person very likely won't see a whole 1/8" without a very good ruler. I know, I know, you'll still know it's there, but seriously! :) Trim that seam, press the side again with a little steam and voila! :rose:

You will never not see the tiny imperfections in your own work. That's the maker's mark, the sign tat you are a maker and that what you made with your hands was not - and could not have been - made by a machine.

Wenchie, it sounds an exciting design, and surely prototype stage is partly for ironing out any niggles? :).

I have had my sewing machine out for months now.....and not done anything with it. Too nervous. And also just not sure what too make. Don't want to look 'mutton dressed as lamb' don't want to look frumpy, don't feel confident to go straight back in to things like slippery silks and chiffons or stretchy things. I need to switch browsing at clothes to browsing through patterns.

Never fear the simple black skirt.

I have done this. I play up the sample, explain why the price for a sample is so much cheaper... it really hasn't done much for me, but then I'm still educating my audience on the difference between what I do and what they order on line, and why I need 18 measurements and everyone else asks for 4 at most, but usually just one. It's a process

Yeah, it's a process. I'm waiting to get it on a warm body before I mess with it too much.

And also in the category of shameless self promotion, I'm working on a corset making dvd. I also have patterns for sale on ebay. I could probably part with some fabric on the cheap. Just think of me as your sewing equivalent to a drug dealer, I got what you want. :D

I'm sure I'm over thinking it. But it isn't in a spot that I can really fix easily. So either I spend more time fixing it that I put into it, I scrap the whole thing, or I breath through and let it go. I keep telling myself it's just me, but sending out an imperfect thing, especially one that very well might be seen on the minor celebrity mentor I have, horrifies me.

So, I'm doomed. Great. ;)

Anyway, here it is. I am still debating on adding the lace or not, so don't mind the pins.

Oh, I love that it's a zip!!
And the design - love it!

Thanks. :)

I do a lot of zipper fronts for the burly girls. Quick changes and what not. I've done a few for myself as well, and I really like the way they hold up. This is a rhinestone zipper though, and it is a right pain in the ass! I hope that it just needs the teeth broken in a bit, but as is, it is not for quick changes or release easy enough to get off of on stage. It would work for meet and greets though.

I'm over all happy with it. Now I just need to see it in action to see if there are things that I need to change.

I just realized that this would be a perfect nursing corset. . . marketing. . . hmmm. . .

I love the corset, Wenchie! And if you're still unsure about the lace, I vote yea on it. :)

It is excellent!!!!!

Thankies. :D

I could not sew a corset. :) I am certain. I'm not sure I could even sew a garter belt. I am really low on confidence. I should really just do anything, hem some napkins or something, to build confidence again. Its crazy, I used to love the sewing I did. ( I would always have felt seriously out of depth with corsetry, but I could run up simple dresses and skirts and added lace and fabric to pillow slips and towels etc, and embroidered. I also did lacemaking for a ( short while). And loved it. I didn't get any great expertise, but I found it enjoyable. When I was younger I was very energetic, and while I loved it I found it too...sedentary. Now I am sedentary, but have not developed long attention span:eek::D

I still have your link though and I have not forgotten it. :).

I know that I probably should be going on and on about what skill it takes and how labor intensive it is, but seriously, if you can do straight lines, you can do my corset method. Really, once you know a few secrets, basic corsets are not all that hard.

Now altering and drafting patterns is something completely different.

Regarding 'nursing corset' I often try to give mother's a gift for them not the baby, because everything can be very baby focused and a little ' de feminising' , hmm, that's not right word, but ...as if woman is only mother now, not still...'woman'. So something pretty, and very womanly. A nursing corset would be a fantastic thing to have to feel this way.

One of the burly girls just had a baby. I have no idea if she is nursing or not, but I'm sure she'd be willing to pose for a free corset. And her boyfriend is one of the photographers for the group, so I'm sure she will pimp him out. Really loving this idea.

I think lace because take photos and you have two different options to show.

I wonder also what it would look like with black velvet ribbon trim? Too severe do you think?

I like the idea of the lace, I think I just don't like that lace. But I do kind of favor breaking it up a bit.

I was actually pondering black velvet ribbon this morning. I might pin that on and see what it looks like.

Yes, to the lace Wenchie and remember that when the garment is on a person moving around, things like this are much less likely to be noticeable.

Thank you.

Last week, I put my senses of humor and perspective in a hole and beat them with a flat shovel, and I disposed of the shovel in a dumpster.

Everyone seems angry at me, probably because I'm enraged with all humans for their total idiocy, and my theory is that when people sense that you want to strangle them, they aren't as receptive to you as they might be.

Good evening, and God bless America.

I think sense of humour and perspective got away and managed to survive.

You'll just have to stick with people who like breath play for a while.

It really sucks to notice that some of the irreversible crap in my life is of my own doing. :(

Now I really wish I could go back in time about 3 years and make one little (at the time it felt very insignificant) choice differently.
