Spent a lovely day yesterday alone in the Lake District. Drove up to Windemere then got the boat from Bowness to Ambleside. The weather was really sunny but cold, so I walked up to the waterfalls at the top of the village before finding lunch and heading back across the lake. When the kids were small, we took holidays there and I sat for a while on a bench that we used to walk to each evening, looking out towards the Langdales in the distance. It's my 'happy place'!
When I was young, my brother did an exchange with a European student whose response to everything we ate or did was 'we have this in my country, only better.' The only time I remember him lost for words was when we took him to the lakes
That sounds like the perfect day out, I love the Lake District, so many breathtaking (literally and visual) walks, hikes and climbs.
