While i agree with what they're saying, i like to put a positive spin on things when i can. Lately I've taken to looking at myself in the mirror and declaring, 'Bombshell, baby!' Because i need to feel beautiful, and we are our own best advocates.

Whether i was ever smaller in the past (i was), or will be in the future (who knows?), this body is who i am now. Right now. I want to own it as much as i can, love it as much as i can, determine to see the beauty in it as much as i can, exactly how it is, right now.

I've stopped taking pictures of myself, mostly. I should probably change that. Whether i choose to share them here or not, it's good for me to feel photo worthy. And more than that, to feel love worthy, success worthy, partner worthy, happiness worthy. I don't feel that way most days, but maybe if start saying it more often, and with more conviction, maybe if i start behaving in ways that back that up, those words will find a little crack in my hard head and start to seep in and become my truth.

My daughter happened to be in the bathroom recently as i stepped out of the shower. Typically one to avert her gaze, she gave me a casual once-over and then declared,

'You look like a majestic manatee.'

And walked out.






But the more i think about it, the more i feel like i can own that compliment. Suddenly i want a logo made up with a manatee wearing a crown.
