I agree - our *squicks* are our own. They are not logical things that can be discussed away, they are more like an involuntary reactions. Of course they can be pushed through if someone want to have all that emotional work a go.

lol i am terrified of tree frogs. i dont have a clue why i am.
so as a joke someone sent me this really bad porn clip where igor has a girl tied to a table and was having his way with her and a bucket of frogs.
the more she screamed the more i was squicked the more turned on i got

Actually, from what I've found, there can be a decent amount of misunderstandings about other people's squicks, and the hope was to clarify them here.

For example, the Daddy Doms and the Girls Who Love Them thread... that had a lot of people posting with squick factors, but then some people who were into the lifestyle started posting and explained many of the principles behind Daddy/girl and that it wasn't usually about incest, Daddy/daughter relationships, etc.

Chris is on the right track... I actually got the idea for this thread from that one. Sometimes a little knowledge can go a long way.

Well . . . I have a thing about centipedes. I won't even look at pictures of them, they seriously *squick* me. Oh and beetles, especially June bugs. *shudders* But those are common, the one that really gets me is the sound of the toilet flushing when it's really quiet. (Like at night.) Don't know why, but it just freaks me out.

As for sexually all my *squicks* have been discussed.

For me it'd have to be gun-play. I shoot guns on a regular basis, and the thought of deliberately pointing one at someone (or having one pointed at me) is so non-erotic that I would still be cringing a week later.

I agree, since there is a strong emotional reaction it has good potential use. Fear heightens your senses and from a mindfuck standpoint using someone's "squick" against them seems like it could open up a new world of games to play.

Mine that I listed would never be sexual cause they gross me out so much. The first time I saw a centipede I was five. We'd just moved to TX and I was warned that centipedes can be poisonous. I was 12, and living in Oregon, before I learned that not all centipedes are poisonous, just the ones in that geographical area.

What really ticks me off, though, is when K gets it in his mind to swat me with a fly swatter. This thread is about hard limits, though not in the same context that they've been mentioned in before. The difference lies in a community thing, rather than on an individual basis. We're not talking about them just for the hell of it, or curiousity, but rather so we can understand them and eachother better.

It's more of a broad view of the situation rather than an up-close analysis. Get what I'm saying?

Now, to re-rail the thread, does anyone have any more squick factors that are related to bdsm? Or do we need to get some of the kinksters who are into scat and whatnot out?

For me, the squick in blood play and knives is not about hard limits.

On one level they are about infections that may be transmitted.
I do have nursing knowledge and I do understand the infection issue can be minimised, it is not about the practicalities of how it is about the way my mind perceives the issue.

At another level it is about if the situation accidentially goes too far and I need medical attention. Explaining what and why is not something I want to do.

On a third level it is about trust/fear.
The third level is the one that bothers me least of all.
I do trust him, but mistakes and accidents happen. I am not just talking about my being injured but if I have an unexpected response to something he could also end up hurt accidentially.

Two final aspects are the potential scarring and pain. Ok, it may hurt less than a whip or crop but I don't know if that is true until it actually happens. I don't enjoy anticipation nor the unknown so that is an issue for me. The scarring, bluntly I don't want my body scarred. If he wants that it will be discussed and not be a part of a scene but a different concept altogether.

My own include

Non-Sexual: Old balloons that are starting to deflate and have gone all wrinkly and soft (long standing childhood phobia, laugh away), Removing hair from the bath/shower plug hole (I know it's my hair and I know it's only mixed with soap but it still makes me feel ill). I would agree with rebecca on issues like racism, child abuse, poverty and war because they are so needless. For the same reason, waste make me really feel awful.

Sexual: I'm submissive but more extreme forms (that being from my newbie perspective and in no way a judgement) of S&M like torture, abject humiliation and scat really turn me off. I accept that not all these activites wil remain off the chart for me and it seems every few weeks I enjoy something I would not have tolerated a short time ago but in some forms of S&M play I have seen there is no discernible element of respect and that squicks me.

The very thought of being dominant squicks me too, it's just not there in order for anybody to draw it out.
