eilan... i didn't get back to read your original post but i saw it quoted. i hope you're healing well & quickly. :)
Eh, not yet.

I can bike without pain, but I can't run. Or walk well, for that matter. I don't really limp, but it hurts.

if this helps with your perspective any...

one of the guys i was with this weekend is a competitive runner and was recently diagnosed with a career ending injury (he's only 21) for which there seems to be no treatment. his doctors say he'll never be able to do 80-90 miles a week (the mere thought of which makes me ill, btw).

it'll heal. just give it time and don't make it worse by pushing yourself... you can pick up where you left off in due course. don't give up now. :)

i understand... your progress is exceptional. it happens to everyone at one time or another so try not to blame yourself. you'll be ok.

my replacement directv tuner came saturday (while i wasn't home). i went to hook it up last night and i can't get it to work. when i called directv last night, not only could they not fix it but they managed to fuck up my good receiver by disassociating it with its card thingy. we finally got the good one working and i told them that i wasn't going to continue fucking with the semi-functional one that night.

i guess at some point today i'm going to have to talk to a semi-competent customer service twit and try to get this unfucked. if the one they sent is also screwed up i'm REALLY going to blow a gasket.

i'm still tired... gotta get some rest this afternoon... T minus 30 minutes to nap time.

p.s.: apparently the receiver that directv sent me is also defective. in the mean time, the partially working receiver has decided to stop working completely.

Nap sounds divine! I might have to copy you on this one EJ.

Huh...so, you have dial up and directv? I am the opposite, wireless internet and absolutely NO TV! I have a TV but no reception, no cable, no dish, nadda.

You have the better deal...although a faulty receiver is no fun. I hope they get you a working one soon!!!

if i had to choose, i'd keep the internet and ditch the tv... highspeed or not, the 'net is much more important to me.

on the bright side, they've credited me five dollars each month for the next 6 months. yippee and all that shit.

I've lived without cable/dish for 2 1/2 years. It CAN be done. I had dial-up for ever and only just recently got the wireless. It is nice but, not always dependable.

Woohooo on the credit! Better than a poke in the eye though.

i hate hate hate when people use "creative" spellings for names. i have a dear friend, some of whose kids' names use alternative spellings.

it drives me up the wall to see their names spelled out.

please folks, don't do this to your kids: think of the children!

Yes! I can't tell you how many times I've had to correct people on the pronunciation of my first name. All because my mother wanted it to be "different".

The ones that drive me absolutely up the wall are the ones who continue to mispronounce it even after I've corrected them.

In his book Freakonomics, Stephen Levitt includes a chapter on the impact of unusual children's names, with a particular emphasis on the role that one's name plays in determining future success. It's a fascinating study and has somewhat surprising results.

There's more than one reason why you won't find very many Tanishas and Dawmaneeks in the next Harvard graduating class. (or many Sunshines and Moon Units, either)

Yep, creative spellings of name's is up there on my list.

My son has an uncommon name, but it's not a creative spelling of a name.

My name, at the time my parents named me, used to be not that common, but alas, it's become more common.

Many people can't pronounce my last name correctly. I don't mind, it helps me weed out the telemarketers. :)

I hate it when people can't flipping spell my name even AFTER I spell it for them.

And people cannot seem to get my last name right. The hyphen throws them for some reason.
