Things that piss you off?

Things that piss me off lets see.

Having my computer totally and completely crash on me and having to reformat my hard drive.. Yes it happened to me Ladies And Gents.. And after an absence I am back.

Second, my story was finally accepted and posted on Lit, so how do I add a link to it in my sig line. Anyone know.

Lastly, seems since I reformatted my hard drive and added all the needed programs back onto my computer I must have done something wrong. As my apostrophe and question mark keys no longer work properly and are showing up as Es with accents over them. Ideas help please.

NB, welcome back, sorry to hear about the re-formatting of your HD. that blows.

here's what you do. click on my profile. you will see a link that says visit silverwhisper's homepage. open that link.

there's a number in part of the resulting URL: the user ID#. look at your profile, figure out what the correct substitution is, and make it.

then edit your sig by going to your user CP. if you're familiar with BBcode, it's relatively painless. if you aren't, copy & paste the URL with the correct user ID#.

if you wanna be cute, you surround it with {URL} and {/URL}, switching [] for {}.

if you wanna be really cute, you use {URL=} and put the URL directly after the =. between the two, you add some text.

something like that, do you mean?

:>

Go to control panel -> keyboard -> language and select a different language, perhaps British, I noticed that both the Canadian options cause the accent over the E.

fucking musicmatch jukebox 10 is WPMO right now. i knew i should have checked to see whether it was stable or not. v.10 is apparently so unstable it makes hollywood starlets look well-adjusted.

i "upgraded" yesterday morning. it has not once successfully opened w/out a problem. i'm presently using WMP but i hate using it b/c it tends to spy on users. i need an alternative.

can anyone hook me up?

Being completely undervalued and unappreciated at my job.

[sigh]

I think it's time to move on.

The more I think about this whole undervalued at my job thing the more it pisses the fuck out of me.

One of my areas of expertise, is computer-based pedagogy--more specifically, computer-based composition, including distance learning, and electronic portfolios. So, you would think that my department would draw on my expertise, since I am actually published in those areas. No. My department is spending 2-3K to bring in an outside speaker to the department for a workshop on computer-based pedagogies, electronic portfolios, and distance learning. A workshop, which I have been informed, is mandatory that I attend.

Give me a fucking break.

wow, this situation would send me into a whirlwind of emotions. I'm curious, what is the hierarchy of authority between the person that made the decision to bring in the outside speaker, and you?

The person that first wanted the outside speaker brought in is my direct supervisor--which is why this is painful and frustrating--but, ultimately, the approval to spend the money had to be given by the Department Chair.

Unfortunately, this little tidbit of my life at work is but one example of how, lately, I am being completely undervalued.

i think a good way to spend an hour or three later today would be in updating your CV.

I am doing that as we speak. I am updating the CV for the purposes of academic jobs but I am also completely redoing my several versions of my resume for non-academic jobs. I'm just having a hard time with the squeezing of my great qualifications from a very long CV--which is suitable for academic jobs--into a much shorter resume. And it irks me that I am having this much trouble since resume writing is one of the things I teach. [sighs]

Somehow, I don't think edits erotica should go on either the CV or resume. [snickers]

No reason why "volunteer editor for online writers' group" shouldn't be there. The HR managers that I know are always delighted when they have a chance to hire someone over 19 who is fluent in the online world.

Thank you. now that I see that, I'm even more embarrased. duh.

No need to be. CV's are actually more prevelantly used in most European countries for non-academic jobs as well.

But to put it in perspecitve for you, my CV for academic jobs is 12 pages long because a 12 page CV is quite common. I'm having, for some strange reason, a hell of a time, whittling those 12 pages down to a two page resume.

WPMO is when people bump a very old thread. Doesn't matter how good a thread it was or whether the bumper had a good comment to make, it still irritates the hell out of me. Know it shouldn't, but still does.

It bothers me too, WW. And it shouldn't but...

It really ticks me off when I have a whole big e-mail written and ready to send, and the computer eats it.
