I've thought about these types of things too. In a White Wolf game that I play, there is a magical vampire power called Vicissitude. My character was tortured literally into hell with it. Though she didn't remain there. She was forced to not only watch but to learn how to do it. She has a high enough empathy and perception now that she can use it without hurting others. She can craft flesh, bone and sinew.
