Tihmmnmmish's Cuddle-Friendly Fireside Threadcast

What all of them?!!

I've just removed myself from 'another thread' after being very tempted to put up a line of zzzzzzzz's but I bet that would get up someones nose along the line so I am sitting on my hands until the temptation goes away!

You ever have one of those weeks when it just seems like everyone is on your case? Everyone is of course a blatant overgeneralization, but it feels like that. Ya know what I mean? I'm fighting the strongest urge to say, "Fuck you, assholes!" to a rather large list of people right now. I'm thinking maybe I need a break from Internet communication for awhile. I have already distanced myself from one website and yahoo messenger.

yeah... I'm going back under the blankie for awhile. If you call for me and I don't answer, my apologies upfront.

I know exactly what you mean and I reckon we would find our lists were very similar in some cases. Sit on your hands until the urge goes away or do what I do make fun of them, sit under the table and talk about other subjects as if they weren't even there. In the end you will find all the best people are under the table too giggling and chattering.

Hm, something in the air. I'm working on an Audio that's got a certain steel-clawed zing to it, and the riff's rather catchy if I dare say so (just have to come up with some wordage for it). The storms will probably abate by the time I actually finish it (shooting for Friday or Saturday night), but it'll be available for your soul's benefit for when the next one comes around. So hang in there.

It's odd how I am more inclined to go into battle for loved ones and good friends than I am for myself, but I'm not sorry about my post I meant every damn word of it

oh well don't like poems about getting rid of retarded babies or any babies for that matter being unblessed with any of my own I suppose all babies are precious to me

i can understand that poem really hurt you. I prefer not to read poetry that is offensive. While not condoning such poetry, I try to look at it from a different perspective. Could such a poem that is completely ridiculous have been written to point out how completely ridiculous the character's attitude is? Perhaps the writer feels the same way you do and is pointing out how ignorant people are who don't agree with the two of you. Let's face it, as ignorant as the character in the poem is, there are ignorant people out there. Since the poem invokes hatred or rage against the character, isn't it showing how stupid and pathetic people are who think the same way the character thinks?

just a thought.

Only the poet methinks
If she had written it to deride the subject all well and good but she writes her filth to uphold the subjects and in her own words she writes what she believes in so there you have your answer

I'm not sure what her intentions are, but I always read her offensive work as mocking the character's attitude... as in the reader will hate this person and see how ignorant they are.

I did not see her say she agrees with the character, only that she has the right to write it. I could be wrong. I have not read every post, nor will I. I'd have to agree that she has the right to write anything she wants, even if I find it offensive or repulsive. I know some people find some of my stories offensive, but I will continue to defend my right to write what I want no matter what other people think.

I feel bad that her poem struck a nerve with you. I have the blankie on standby...

I go on Twitter as you know and I had a stand up fight in there with some guy making jokes about the Jews being put in ovens by the Nazis. His arguement was that soldiers fought for his right of freedom of speech not even seeming to realise that they also fought to stop such atrocities and would have been been disgusted and appalled at his jokes being made in their names

I guess we are just a little different that way which is okay. I believe people have the right to say or write what they want.. I also reserve the right to call them "idiots." I don't waste my time on idiots.

I believe in not saying or doing anything that will hurt somebody else to the quick by obscenity in which ever form it might take and I expect the same courtesy in return. In this world it's probably more than I can expect but I was brought up on the British politeness and even if it's considered old fashioned now to be polite I still don't use obscenities as a matter of course

It would be nice, Annie, if everyone had the same manners and genuine consideration that you have. I don't expect that from people. I am much harder on myself than others. If I accidentally hurt someone's feelings, I cry. I end up more upset about it than they are. (Yes, I'm an emotional wuss.)

Even though I hold myself to that standard, I would not expect others to live by the same standards or to have the same values. I respect their right to express their views and thank God that it is my choice how much energy I put into reading their work or listening to their bs. I try to ignore ignorance. It isn't worth my time. I find that the more I let someone's bs affect me, the more power I give it when it really should just be dismissed as ignorant.

What the hell is up with people lately????

Some guy wanted to get to know me better, so we talked on the phone a few times. I just got a message from him calling me a coward, heartless, and living like I am in jr. high just because I did not call him today. wtf??? He just called me last night. I wasn't aware we were supposed to be talking everyday.

People are idiots.

well, not you guys...

Interesting topic. Got me thinking. There's lots of angles to this matter.

If I write a poem from the point of view of an SS officer joking about Auchwitzs (sorry can't spell it) with him finding it uproariously funny does that make it ok because of freedom of speech? Or how about one about torturing a puppy to death does that come under the same code of freedom to write whatever I want? I think not what ever your laws say and I will still shout out with disgust whenever I see something that needs shouting about whatever flak ends up being rained on my head!!

Yes. Yes. And, yes.

I guess I don't really understand why you feel the need to worry about what other people say or write. If I disagree with something, it doesn't make it wrong. Even if I think it's revolting or disgusting, I don't feel like I have the authority to tell someone they shouldn't write that. Maybe there is a bit of a cultural difference there.

Well, I personally can't see myself taking much pleasure in writing such sort of material and I can't say that I'd be much interested in reading it. If it was written by someone whose writings I had become familiar with and was aware that they routinely encouraged their pens to drip so evilly, then I would know whether or not I cared to be offended if I see subsequent releases. If the writer was not normally given to such voices and then produced something so shocking I'm going to naturally wonder what inspired it. Maybe the writer is trying to tell me something, something more important than the nastiness that is written. Maybe a very ugly reminder that each and every one of us is a potential monster. Not that we need reminding. And maybe we are better off seeking sources that remind us we are also potentially saintly.

And for sure, if someone takes the monster road and that monster's cruelty causes innocents to suffer, let us hope that someone does shout about it, at the least. And actually we don't enjoy absolute freedom of speech. There's such a thing as slander and libel. Lawsuits ensue. Some win and some lose. Now, if someone publicly expresses something that was intended as a direct and personal insult towards say, my mother or my wife, I personally think I should be allowed to bypass civil litigation avenues, and perform a customized vigilante method of recompense.

In other words: there's the world we'd like to have and then there's the way the world is. It would be nice if it wasn't such a fucked up world and so many fucked up people didn't run its affairs. But it is and they do, so our objective is to find ways to counter it by taking advantage of as many of the enjoyments as possible while causing harm to as few others as possible, which is a challenge itself because... it's a fucked up world.
