Tihmmnmmish's Cuddle-Friendly Fireside Threadcast

Yes. Yes. And, yes.

I guess I don't really understand why you feel the need to worry about what other people say or write. If I disagree with something, it doesn't make it wrong. Even if I think it's revolting or disgusting, I don't feel like I have the authority to tell someone they shouldn't write that. Maybe there is a bit of a cultural difference there.

Perhaps I feel that writing propaganda is akin to doing it, if nobody shouts out in protest then it's akin to saying its ok and it's not ok at all. If nobody had protested about the Nazis would they have continued across Europe? Damn right they would and I probably wouldn't have been born because they would be here in my land. I am glad I live in a country that gives me the right to speak out when I see something written that is offensive. We shall have to agree to disagree because you have your right to your opinions as I have mine :rose:

In other words: there's the world we'd like to have and then there's the way the world is. It would be nice if it wasn't such a fucked up world and so many fucked up people didn't run its affairs. But it is and they do, so our objective is to find ways to counter it by taking advantage of as many of the enjoyments as possible while causing harm to as few others as possible, which is a challenge itself because... it's a fucked up world.

Well this little corner of England still seeks to un-fuck it and will go down fighting for that right whether I get support or have to carry the banner myself!

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the nazis gained plenty of strength before anybody did much about it. It was all spelled out in Mein Kampf, apparently, which I've never read it and don't care to read, but maybe if someone had read it and acted, like sent someone in to assassinate Hitler in say, 1935, or at least responded militarily when he made his early advances... according to my hazy memory of history studies Churchill was among the few who attempted to warn the world, but few wanted to listen, much less believe, which led to Stalin's arrival, and he was pretty much a prick himself.

Where's my calendar? Anyone got a calendar?

I swear, this week must be "Pick on Sheila Week." What's it say? It is, isn't it? I think it's come early this year...

If you have History Channel, there has been a program running called " Valkery, The Plot to Assassinate Hitler. I don't know how to insert the link as a hot link, but here it is.

http://www.history.com/genericContent.do?id=61062

There were actually several attempts to assassinate, by high-ranking men close to him, and they all failed. At one point in the show the narrator comments that Hitler had Satan's luck. It does seem odd that he escaped so many plots.

I did read Mein Kampf when I was in 7th grade, only because my mother forbade it ( as she also forbade reading the Manson book that Bugliosi wrote.) I read them both and was not turned into a fiend.) and the school I attended had both in the library. It ( Mein Kampf) is mostly political musings. Didn't impress me much and I certainly did not turn into a nazi.

UYS- I agree with you in your note, there is nothing funny nor has there ever been anything humorous about the nazis. I agree with you there. Just stay strong to your own heart and no one can or has the right to say a thing. I think you are a strong-willed fabulous woman; don't ever change a thing about you!

Seems like we have a delicate balancing act.
On the one hand, live and let live is often the way to go with life's daily conflicts and run-ins with other.
But at other times, we need to speak out, try to stop the violence... , but not enforce censorship.
I find the serenity prayer is a helpful tool keeping me on the beam:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference

Agree.

Dissent in all places and pertaining to all forms must be allowed, but actual trespassing into another's personal space would be crossing the line. Something like that. If I happen to hear a joke that is of a certain coarseness that I find somehow funny, I will certainly consider the potential audience before passing it on.

There's a new one on my list that I bet is not on yours...

As long as I am on your good list and you are on mine even when we disagree that's a good thing

There's a film out just now starring Tom Cruise about trying to kill Hitler, I haven't seen it but not sure how he can be the hero when we all know it was a failure. Tried to tell you how to do links but it's not easy putting it in here lol will think of another way to tell you

My mother always used to say I was forever 'getting on my high horse' about something that wasn't fair in my opinion and yes I know life isn't fair but the English have always ones for coming to the aid of the underdog fighting for what is right. Like England I may be one small voice but I still aim to be one to be reckoned with. I've told Ron all that's been said here and why and he's proud that I've cared enough to raise my voice when nobody else will.

Well Annie has just tried to blow herself to kingdom come (stop cheering at the back there!). Because it was Ron's birthday, and I am not well enough yet for restaurants, I was making him a meal which I prepared well on time. I put it in the oven and went away and left it for over an hour and a half. When I went to check that it was cooked I suddenly started to smell gas and though uhoh what now?! Yes the damn gaslight had gone out in the oven and had been pumping out pure gas into the oven and kitchen for all that time! Not only was I in danger of blowing up the house but half the damn street too and on top of that the casserole was stone cold and no special meal cooked. So now Ron will be telling everyone he knows that the meal he had for his birthday was ........ a takeaway!

The bitch would be about music. Maybe it's because 50 ain't too far away, and maybe when you hit 45 or something there's an inner toggle that switches on so all the new music suddenly starts to suck. Talk about raising one's voice. Someone should do something about the music industry. They should be made to suffer somehow, until they start putting out better stuff. All I hear is crap crap crap crap. Fuckinchrist! I mean I'm sure there's great stuff out there, more in the local scenes, and I know I'm nothing to write home about, but goddamn it, I search sirius and try to check out new stuff, keep an open mind, but I have to go back to the old stuff. Here we are, twenty-first-fucking century and all the music industry can come up with is crap.

Sorry.

Thanks.

Feel better now.

Think I'll go throw on some Stones... goddamn it.

It's the A & R fucks? They should be prosecuted and executed. Okay, on the local and amateur levels, much is forgiven. But these are Big Time. But I guess you can't expect much from Big Time these days. Should be criminal, crappy music released nationally. Criminals. Fucking motherfucking criminals.

And I've returned to classical - even older stuff, for the most part.
I can get into some of the minimalist stuff, like Phillip Glass, for modern.

If I ran a major label... shit. I'd find talent. We'd change the fucking world. But I don't run a major label. Just a pissant peon. So...

Maybe that's what the internet and the affordable means to do budget home recording (like I like to dabble with) did: the good stuff went their own ways, did their own thing, searched for their own audiences and left the sludge for the major labels. That would fit. But still... you'd think.

On the more lenient side, if you couple the sheer vastness of possibilities one can find Out There, plus the fact that by now it's probably really hard to come up with something new that really stands out and strikes a pioneer path, it makes sense. Maybe the A & R guys are really trying. I think I could do better though. If I had any capital... if only.

Well it feels a lot better to get that out. Feel much more calm, relaxed, together, at ease, soothed. And it's a beautiful night. Beautiful June night. Perfect. Cherry. Shebop.

Well, there's always next year, father's day, unbirthdays (Alice in Wonderland).

Glad to hear you're OK.

I listen to many different kinds of music. When I paint, I might listen to classical or rock-- but it has to have feeling. I have to be able to relate to it in my present mood. I find that Nickelback, Yes, Pink Floyd, and NIN are common choices. In my car, I used to listen to mostly new hip hop. My daughter hated that! The only music we ever agreed on was Pink Floyd and NIN. I would laugh when we would pull up to a convenience store when I had my hip hop blaring, because, as I would point out to her, I would bet people thought it was her music... especially since she is half black. I'd laugh at her disgust at the thought of being associated with hip hop music and jokingly point out that she is black. And she'd say, "Well, you're white!" LOL

kids.

Father's Day he goes to his ex-wifes house and his kids nothing to do with me but unbirthdays are always good! A very happy unbirthday to you and you and you!
