Tihmmnmmish's Cuddle-Friendly Fireside Threadcast

Thats an idea - leave it up a little longer.
No one else has volunteered for next week or expressed interest in drawing names from a hat (using my little program, for example).

open ended, why not, Annie? and even if someone does want to start a new one, there's no reason yours has to be pulled, is there?

IF no-one else is interested in starting a new one, I'll throw another out for whoever might care to bounce off it, but it's a shame no-one's offering yet so we can try out E.O's programme that he went to the trouble of writing!

Hiya poets! Asheville is so so beautiful, all blue mountain misty and everyone is really friendly. Especially that tungtied2u guy! :D We've spent a few days with him showing us around town and are now waiting to hear whether our offer on a house has been accepted. Such a cute little place, too. Not right downtown like we had originally hoped, but only about ten minutes away. So cross your fingers for us. We start driving back Saturday, with stops to visit ee's son and then my mom and kids in Joisey. Whew.

Love North Carolina.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful.
Best of fortune to you.

Woohoo we got the house!!! I am so excited. One more full day here, but it's going to be warmish and sunny so we can do a bit more touring as well as going back to the house to get window measurements, etc. Eagleyez and I just keep grinning at each other. We're happy.

Emp, there is a Look Homeward Angel statue downtown, and there is the Wolfe homestead and his gravesite. So far I've seen only the statue, but we'll be moving down here in about six weeks so once we're all settled in I want to check them out, as well as the O Henry stuff here (I didn't realize that O Henry was also an Asheville person.

And hmmnmm, you were right about the busker scene. They're everywhere, not just downtown. This is a very music-oriented place.

And omigod the indie book and music stores, tons of em. I'm in heaven. And barbeque, really good barbeque here.

Thank you all for the kind wishes. You may all visit--we got lotsa space. :D

That's great !
I've only been to North Carolina once - we took my son for a Duke summer program for middle school students a while ago. We just dropped him off - didn't do much else there.

Summer writing program? Good on him! It's a hard one to get accepted in, I've heard.

Asheville is in the western tip of the state, near Tennessee. It's right between the Blue Ridge and Great Smokey mountains, really lovely.

It sounds wonderful! Being on the western side means I can drive south, stop and visit any Washington sitting Litizens, drive south-easterly and stop to smile at those along the way, foolio, bj... then swing directly into the path of the Virginians... I can see it happening next year for spring break... yay!

I talk a good roadtrip, it's pushing it into reality that gets me stuck.

We were looking to using timeshare points to come to Canada this year but everything on offer is miles too far from an airport

Depends on how far too far is... In Alberta, for instance, folks think nothing of driving 6 hours in a day, just to go and see an IMAX film in Edmonton say... So, if you've got a time slot in Canmore, it only seems like it's far... to a cowgirl, it's just down the road from Calgary. If you're in Ontario, Cottage Country is a spit from Toronto. Let me know where you're landing and I'll put the network in play...

Yeah well they probably know where they are going but driving a strange car with the steering wheel on the wrong side and driving on the wrong side of the road with nooooooo idea where you are going 127 miles is too far! So I doubt if we will make it this year may have to book now for next year if they allow that as we want to be near enough to see Niagara falls. We did the Rockies and the rocky mountaineer trip a few years back but that was by coach, actually I think I mentioned before that we landed in Vancouver on 9/11 had to sit on the plane for three hours then when we got in the airport it of course was bedlam with troups everywhere. Our tour went without us and with nothing flying we were stranded in a strange country and had to get on a greyhound bus and catch the tour up in Banff. The coach was full of German tourists who talked loudly through the English part of the tour guide and one German lady with very bright red hair who proceded to teach me to swear in German and had me repeating what was probably the most foul language

And we speak (to you) a strange version of English. When we first arrived in England (long ago - I was 13 at the time) we were driving up from Southampton in our car. And like you would experience here - wrong side of road and steering wheel. There was a guard or something at a gate and he asked us a question and we didn't really understand what he said. Finally, I shouted out "Booth, John Wilkes Booth! (He had asked 'who shot Lincoln?' We're from Illinois and our license plates say 'Land of Lincoln')
