TSCLT 7.0: Hemis, Harleys, Hooters-n-Harridans

I still remember the Camille flood. It was darned impressive.

Not here.

Even the flood walls cannot contain the mighty Mississippi.

For every mile of dyke you erect, the river finds another piece of lowland to invade.
I think we've had this conversation before but:
I blame the Army Corp of Engineers...

They've had their fair share of screw ups. Down in FL they're slowly undoing all the "good works" they did in the past. Like most other things their 'good intentions' turned into nightmares. They came close to killing off the Everglades.

Erect dykes???

Okay, now I'm offended!!!

Next I suppose I'll be riding a rice burner . . . .

 :D

There are vast stretches of the Mississippi valley that should simply be allowed to flood
to replenish the soil; it sure could cut down on pesticide use...

If they built a dam up by Nebraska, and named it The Aswan High Dam . . . .

Maybe they could imprt some beavers and blame them when it all turns to shit.

I brought an LED flashlight and from the car and by torchlight remembered that I had a stack of books unread next to my bed.

Read a few chapters of House of Rain about the Anasazi. As I put it up I realized the power is back. I was kind of enjoying having none. With no lights outside, my night vision was excellent. Plenty of city light pollution, but starlight was plenty in the yard.

Earlier tonight, what ran down the battery was watching Joe Rigan with Eric Eric Weinstein. They were talking at one point about how even non-religious friends will not disturb him at Shabbat. They decided that somebody should construct a religion that in Vols nothing but a specific. Of time set aside away from everything.

Same thing is happening over in Egypt. The salts that accumulated in the deltas soils were washed away by the Nile's annual floods as well as replenishing the soil. Not any more and the land is going fallow.

They keep trying to contain/train the Mississippi and as far as I can tell have merely moved the disasters from one place to another. <shrug>

And still the mighty river is able to breach the walls that seek to keep it in.

We have walls protecting our old downtown (and the rail that run by the river),
but the town is dominated by a lot of higher ground. Just build higher!

Water is going to do what water wants to do.

My book on the Anasazi talks a lot about the importance of the flood Cycles. It never occurred to me but they apparently built when floodwaters delivered some nice fresh mud for mortar.

The anasazi, and later archaeologists, planned on flash floods disposing of unwanted Building Material Downstream.

Where the heck does voice to text decide that it needs to capitalize Building Material Downstream. Is that the name of some band?

It's part of the spring rebirth cycle.

Or Mother Nature's period.

Either way, the fucking things are inevitable.

Kind of like weasels . . . .

The Saint Pauli weather girl is telling me that it's going to get hot and humid today.

She acts surprised, but then again, her accent is Minnesota...

Oh, good, they just opened up the State Highway.
Now our little country road will stop resembling
a Formula One racetrack...

Home/motel. For the moment.

FedEx fucked Wat. They came, they saw, they left - taking Wat's package with them. "An attempt was made." Yes, a very flaccid pathetic attempt. KInd of like some Litsters we know-n-loathe.

So, Wat get's to ride one state over to pick up his package at 8PM so he can do what he claimed he'd do and what needs to be done.

Hell, it's not like he had anything better to do . . . .

Mayor KItteh may be sick. It could be one those incurable things he wouldn't have gotten except for his lifestyle. The Wimmins will check on him and see.

Happy Saturday!!!

The whole FedEx trip from last night was a waste. The website said the package could be picked up after 8PM. The fucking facility closed at 7:30.

They're open today in my anger, I managed to take a picture of the sign with the hours on it. So, delayed but not dead. JUst like every other fucking thing on this job.

But the coffee is damned good.

Sorry to hear about the Mayor Wat. He did live free though.

He's still kicking, but he's looking puny.

Then again, he got through his whole sore foot thing last winter.

And his face shows many battle scars, so he's a survivor.

The rains start today - maybe. Head out to do some shopping later and then tidy up around here a bit.

And the sign said, you gotta have a membership card to get inside!

We had rains again yesterday and before they hit I picked a sprig of glad and lily.
DAMN! Than shit still smells good...

:)

It's like living incense.

I hear ya. My herb garden/planter is almost overwhelming in the odor. Particularly the Basil and Rosemary. I had to put a cage around the catnip and the cats are making certain it doesn't escape it's confines. :) My Dill never came up but the seeds were a few years old and not stored properly so that's my bad.
