VA friends

the Fat Canary is the best place in the Colonial Williamsburg area, but you'll need reservations in advance

Hmmm .. I'm starting to think this is turning into a "Travel & Restaurant" blog .. where we make recommendations on where to stay and eat in Virginia. I haven't been to Williamsburg in years, so I don't have any recommendations. The closest I've been to Williamsburg with respect to a "fine dining" experience is the "Alpine Chef" in Fredericksburg. It's a German restaurant, so you have to be in the mood for German food, but the times that I've eaten there, I've enjoyed it.

Thanks for the responses. I've never been a big fan of the tavern restaurants in Colonial Williamsburg, but have been to Fat Canary before. Excellent food, but crowded and noisy, not to mention hard to get in on less than a couple weeks notice. Think I'm going to try out Cochon on 2nd Street. Reviews are good and menu looks great.

Maybe try the Do-Drop-Inn, where the wenches are saucy. :)
I cannot image the night life is too exciting in Williamsburg. Has some good golf courses though. Played the Gold course of the Golden Horseshoe back last Oct.

The weekend is finally here. Hope Sat is warmer than today. Now what to do is the question? Anybody got any fun plans or is everyone just going to be picking the lint out of their bellybutton?

April Greetings Good Sir. Well the “ High Holy Daze”🍀have come & gone for another year. Today we’re heading back in time to the 1760’s & the French & Indian War. There will be a living history program at Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton this weekend. Perhaps a chance to gaze upon an Indian Madian, or a Frontier Women.... or maybe just get “ scalped “🤣 As always thanks for keeping this thread on life support. Slainte 🍺

Greetings. Now you have next year to look forward too but I am sure you will find a reason to tip a pint or two back before then. I love historical things, especially living history. Williamsburg is one of my favorite. I am surprised that they are allowed to have anything dealing with the French and Indian war anymore. History has become such a delicate subject. Still sounds like fun. I was down at Natural Bridge in VA a few years ago and they have a living history Indian Village setup and they were doing some renactments that day. There were several fair Indian maidens to look upon which made it doubly interesting.

Hope you have a great day.

Yes indeed, a Good Pint is always a wonderful thing. They put in a very informative & fun presentation. They didn’t quite get as many participants as expected, but the ones who did show were 1st rate. No Indian Maiden’s, but a couple of “ frontier women”. Amazingly the were 4 fellows from Western NY & Fort Niagara, almost felt like being back home. The Natural Bridge is on our agenda this Spring. I’ll let you know about the status of the Village. Slainte 🍺

I have relatives that used to live in the little town of Glasgow that is a few miles from Natural Bridge. When I was little we went to Natural Bridge a few times for Easter Sunrise Church service. All I remember is how fricking cold it was. You ever go to the Renaissance festival near Annapolis? You can see some fair "wenches" there that look like they are going to pop out of the top of their dresses.

I'm a Virginia friend, albeit a new one. I just moved here. So I'm welcoming (and heralding) myself by posting here.

Welcome titusfabulous. I totally agree with your nic. :) Hope you find time to post on here from time to time. Even mudane things like how your day was is welcome.

I have come and gone over the years too. I try to encourage everyone to post any thoughts no matter how mundane. Talk about mundane, I am actually watching QVC right now.

That's how I came to know and love him, especially his "happy dance." It also appears we are dominating this little corner of the message boards. If we come up with a flag, we can claim this thread as our own and declare ourselves sovereigns.

That’s a bit ironic 🤣 I used to go by the handle FourFlags until they “ improved “ the system last month🤣. Yes, Stargazer has done Yeoman's work over the years keeping this thread on life support. I try & help him out from time to time in keeping it alive. Welcome aboard. Slainte 🍀
