Wax Play

I think research assistant should be listed as one of a sub's main duties.

Excellent idea. That is what I feel like sometimes....lol

I do not know if this has been mentioned yet, but some candles have metallics in them. That makes them burn too hot for wax play. Make sure you get candles with no metals.

I kept looking at all the candles in the shops today ... but I didn't like to ask the assistants just how hot they would burn.

Wonder if they would have let me try them out?

I'm sure that if you told them why you wanted to know how hot they burned they would,,,,,,,,,after they picked themselves up off of the floor from laughing. :p
I have an idea, maybe the sales assistant would "loan" you one to take to the sex shop to sample that fancy dildo that is all the rage. LOL!
My apologies Willow. I was thinking of another post on a different board.
Please forgive me for my bad humour.:rose:

We all love a laugh. Some malls have candle shops now that have the candles there to sample.

Shadowsdream ~ If I may ask, how do you like taking it off of your sub? :)

As you might've guessed, I'm a big fan of candles. They're romantic, illuminating, and usefull for torment. I use only unscented, and uncoloured plain white wax for consistancy. Any impurities will change how they burn, and cool.
What I really love about hot wax is the controll. The heat, and therefore intensity is so easilly ajustable by how far it has to fall. Too hot/intense? Back off. Want a little more? Close in. Of course, they can also be used as dildoes, but I always found them a little too hard. I'd much rather use something in silicone that was designed for that purpose than risk tearing sensitive membranes.

Strangely enough, I have found that the colored votive candles from the dollar store are usually parafin and have no metals or dyes that make them burn too hot. Now since here in the States every dollar store is different, you need to read the labels and be careful.

The big plus is because they are very inexpensive, you can buy lots of them!

Do they have stores like that in your neck of the woods?

A couple of questions for those who know far more than I do on this subject.

1. I make candles using Parrafin Wax - am I correct in thinking that if I omit to add the plasticiser, the wax will burn at a lower temperature?

2. This question is to help me with a fiction work. Can wax from a candle be drizzled over pubic hair building up into a coating which when peeled off will depilate the sub to whom this is being done? If you are a sub who has endured this torment I would appreciate a description of what you felt, and how you felt about it. You can pm me or email me -

I will be very appreciative of your replies to this question.

Now that might be a hell of a lot of fun.

Any volunteers at Lit?

That is an excellent question, and I will be interested to hear the response.

I'm not sure of the constituancy of dipilatory waxes, but in my experience, I've had to shave hirsute areas before waxing because I don't especially like the sensation of having my hair pulled out.
I will say that when I did have that sort of thing happen, it wasn't complete. Wax is, well, waxy, so it doesn't grip hair predictably. Some slips out, some breaks off at various lenghts, and some is yanked out by the root. Of course, i haven't piled it on like you seem to be suggesting. I've always aimed for uncoated areas so the old layers don't protect.
"You don't want to drink a candle, do you?"
"Maybe I do, Maybe I do" Spits a waxicle, "Outstanding!"

I have a quick question on wax that i was discussing with a friend, if one were to use oil before wax would it make the wax flow more easily and cool less quickly or would it heat the oil too much?.....wewere discussing different elements that might entice like painting with a warming type oil then using wax and whether it would work......also would make for an interesting design if the oil would make it flow more as opposed to open skin therefore changing the design depending where it is placed.......does this make any sense?

I think it might flow more... not sure aobut the physics there, but i CAN explain the physics behind whether it'll cool or not.

The simple answer, Yes it would, to the small degree it takes to warm the oil, based off of specific heats and original heats. But to put it in lay-men's terms. Depending on the melting points of each. Once the wax heats the oil to the final temperature, it'd prolly stay at that point a bit longer then normal. So, a little cooler then the wax ((not much mind you)) but lasting a little longer then the wax normally does, ((again, not much)) Hope this helped.

I've only done this once (in conjunction with some ice - yikes!) and it was a HORRIBLE mess to clean up - is there some secret that I missed?

Any oily substance on the skin will make the wax not want to stick quite so well... Though I have been given to understand that oils or liquids on the skin "can" lead to burns where you might not have experienced them otherwise. YMMV
Yeah...wax is a bit messy... You can reduce the mess by reducing the height the drops are falling from...
And.
I own a really large sheet that was purchased to be nothing but a "drop cloth". That helps a lot..

As far as faves go... Try the wax... and then remove it with a knife....
Always fun...

There was some good info in an old thread I looked at in the library a while ago...

Wax type..........Where Found..........Melt Points

Raw parafin................Canning wax, bulk..............115° - 126°F
(soft)

Votive candles............Cylinders up to 6 in............131° - 141°F
(harder)

Taper candles..............Candlesticks....................141°F +
(hard)..........................Table candles

Hurricane lamp.................................................154°F +
(hard)

Beeswax....................Numerous candle
(waxy to hard)...........styles, bulk........................146°F +

Note: Seems obvious, but one should hold that burning candle up WAY high before allowing it to drip. That allows the 141°F + table candle wax drops to cool down just a teensey bit before they hit our skin.

Somebody in that thread also mentioned that the Shabbat candles sold in the kosher section of the grocery stores or of specialty shops are 100% paraffin. In fact, they are. I checked. I felt a bit sacreligious buying them, and the clerk probably wondered why I was smirking, but...even if not held far from the skin they're not hot enough to burn.

My SO then came home, saw the box, and asked, "What are the Shabbat candles for?" :D Teehee.
