What are you doing?

Wishing I were working from home today, but at least my office door locks

Laying in bed wide awake.. 🥴
Listening to Pandora..
Wishing I had someone next to me.. 😏

Watching The Pope’s Exorcist. I have high hopes for this.
Did you like it SubZeroGirl? I also had high hope for it as I always enjoy Russell Crowe. I gave it a 7 out of 10. Some things were good and some things could have been done better. But his acting as always did not disappoint.

Thank you for your review, I’ve been debating watching it 😊

You are most welcome. 😊 Just finished The Days on Netflix. It was a good retelling of the meltdown of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant during the tsunami that hit them in 2011. Such great acting in it, I was impressed. 👍

Did you ever watch the Chernobyl?

I did, I honestly can say I watch most things HBO puts out. As usual, they did not disappoint. Seeing how much those officials tried to bury and keep from the rest of the world was disheartening to say the least. I still remember the day it happened. 🤔

It’s one of those things that you hear people talk about it, and then that show put everything in perspective and show how everything was fucked up.

It truly did. Makes you wonder how much truth our own government knew here in the US? I am sure it was a great deal more than the media at the time showed. But seeing the series shed new light on the actual facts of the aftermath.

Making a list of all the swag I picked during my 3-4 hrs at the State Fair last week and listening to the state police helicopters going up to help law enforcement track someone

Our own government is all fucked here. Conspiracy theories are turning into spoiler alerts 😂😂😂

I did like it and I would love a sequel. I didn’t find it particularly scary, it wasn’t the Exorcist level of horror.

****POSSIBLE SPOILERS****

The family wasn’t compelling at all. I felt nothing for the little boy and the daughter was portrayed as the problem child. The mom didn’t have a personality beyond being a mom. There was no reason for the dad to have died or the son to have stopped talking. I’m sure it was meant to give them some personality or a reason for the possession, but it was too shallow. I liked the priest. I didn’t like that he had a hidden sin, very cliche. I liked some of the horror elements a lot, like the suicide girl spitting up the red bird.

The ending is where I felt the most stress and tension because I was waiting for the horror movie trope of “you thought it was over, but here’s the twist.” Was he still possessed, was the other priest possessed or was the pope possessed? I waited until the very end to find out it really had ended when it seemed to. Russell Crowe was fantastic and believable. An enjoyable movie that I would recommend.

Yeah I agree about the family. I had no connection to them at all other than finding the bratty teenage girl to be annoying, and anytime her scenes were on I just wanted to fast forward. That is a stereotype that is overdone in my opinion. (kind of the same for television dads all being idiots 🙄) My biggest problem with the family storyline was.....who the hell inherits a damn church??? That was a bizarre plotline to me and since it started the movie, it was almost a too unbelievable to keep watching.

I also really liked the other priest, it was good casting and his part was well written. His sinful plotline was added fluff to me and extraneous. It did not really add anything to it other than giving the demon something to fuck with him about. But his and Russell's acting were excellent and their chemistry throughout it was worth the watch.

The horror of it was mediocre at best which was fine as true horror movies mess with me long after I see them and I walked away from this one just fine. 😉 It was a nice twist that he took the possession unto himself to spare the family. That was an interesting twist from most exorcism movies. I did enjoy that the whole thing was a Vatican coverup, and then finding out at the end that this was a true story told from one of the priests' books. Finding out any of this stuff actually happened to someone is always an extra creepy factor. Kind of like The Conuring and Annabelle, true stories from the Warrens. 😯

My favorite line was when the little boy yelled to bring him the priest, the priest on site walked in, was thrown out and he said

“Wrong fucking priest”

I laughed at that line.

The demon gave it away that he wanted Russell Crowe so I wasn’t surprised that he took over. It happened in the Exorcist as well. The little throwaway scene with the “tribunal” of priests and the head guy-too lazy to look up their names-being portrayed as the bad guy, was fluff. I did like it when Russell said he could talk to his boss, the pope. In the end, when the same head guy had a scare and moved to some other country, another throwaway scene. None of those people, even the pope, served any purpose to move the story along. The book was completely redacted and anyone could have read the single line. They didn’t send help or provide any meaningful information for the characters. We, as the audience may have learned something, but none of that info went to the priests.

I love The Conjuring universe, but I don’t believe in ghosts.

That was one of the best lines of the movie. Also laughed at it.

Not sure if I believe either, but things that I can't see or have any real chance of fighting are what creep me out in films. Serial killers and suspense/thrillers are just entertainment. But things like The Conjuring or The Grudge.....yeah.....kept me from sleeping for several nights. 😳👻
