It's hard to pick just one but..........if you twisted my arm.....Pour Some Sugar On Me.

I didn't grow up during that era, wish I did.

Tainted Love will always be one of the greatest 80s era songs.

That and Time Clock of the Heart by Culture Club, the violin-infused melody is everything.

Coming of age in the 1980's was totally awesome! I loved the music and still listen to many great tunes from that golden era. So many, in fact, that I will be posting multiple times to this list for sure.

Let's get started!

Sex as a Weapon - Pat Benatar

Considering 70% of the music I like is from the 80's trying to identify one song would be much too difficult.

While 80's heavy metal has always been my most favorite genre of music and it appears at this point will be until my grave, nearly all genres in that decade were amazing. Even genres I hated as an adolescent I have admiration for now, for example, I used to say that New Wave was "gay" (yes it was a negative then). Now I light up when 80s New Wave come on. Even 80s rap was tolerable. It was just an amazing decade for music that will never be replicated.

Since we are saying "favorite song" of an entire decade in which maybe over 1 000 songs in numerous genres were amazing I will select my favorite band from my favorite genre and their most amazing song, The Sentinel, by Judas Priest.

The word imagery alone is enough to rank it among the greatest songs of the last 100 years.

This however is kind of silly to say this is representative of the 1980s. If I were to actually pick the greatest representative song of the decade it would probably something from Michael Jackson or Madonna. Which is what makes this question so ridiculous. There were just too many genres and niches in that era to answer the question.

hey...

in my opinion there was no 'good' rocknroll made, played or recorded in the 80's

So much good stuff and like renard_ruse,although I lean toward hard rock and metal I can appreciate a lot of the popular 80s genres.
Right now I'd say :
