I took off my glasses off at the store when I went shopping for Halloween candy today. Apparently, I had left them on the counter at the checkout line.

An hour later, I realized they were lost. Retracing my steps led me back to the store. And there they were!

I'm walking down the street to the store, and this home-free dude comes up to me, so I put my hand in my pocket looking for the dollar I keep there for bus fare.

He hands me a fiver over my objections. Won't take no for an answer.

Confused, I walk on. Another home-free dude comes up, and I reach in my pocket for the fiver to give him.

He hands me this brown bag that's got a couple of sandwiches, a bag of chips, and a little thing of milk. Again, over my objections.

Now really confused, I keep going. Yet another home-free dude walks up to me and I'm trying to hand him the bag and the fiver.

He hands me a card and tells me they have beds there.

At the store, I hand the gal that has worked there for years and knows me the bag, the card, and the five, telling her the story, and asking her to give it to someone that needs it.

She looks back at me and says, "Wait. You're not homeless?"

I may need to rethink my dazzling "I don't give a fuck" fashion choices of the last few years without my late wife.
