This premise does indeed give authors a lot of leeway but I think it lends itself too much to episodic installments rather than one coherent narrative. It will be tempting to write each part of the chain as a standalone case that the service is dealing with: one couple, one date, etc.

There may still be an overall arc to the story, of course, but it runs the risk of becoming a sort of background plot for the “monster of the week”-kind of scenarios. Authors would have to make a conscious effort to drive it forward, or we’ll just end up with essentially a collection of stories on one theme that happened to share a setting and some of the characters.

That was how Laresa worked. We more or less had free reign with some basic rules we'd agreed upon about how genies worked. The first few chapters were getting everyone adjusted to writing on the schedule and learning to riff off how the previous chapter ended for the beginning ( or introduction of Laresa if that wasn't the beginning ) in ours. After that first round of stories, we started pulling elements from all of them and brainstorming the larger narrative in the thread. Once we had at least some notion of where it was going, the authors started incorporating some of the elements into their chapters. Then near the end, it was coming to a head and large portions of each chapter were devoted to the overarching narrative, while still giving us the freedom to run with the characters and scenarios we'd chosen for that chapter.

A Royal Sacrifice had a lot more structure from the beginning, but it still allowed a lot of freedom for authors to introduce new characters and locations in the early chapters that didn't necessarily do much to advance the overall plot. Then we mostly stuck with what had already been established and wove it into a tapestry from the middle through the end.

As long as everyone agrees on the amount of structure you want to begin with, giving the authors lots of freedom worked out extremely well for us.

I'm going to say that we skip the second round unless anyone has any strong objections. Not only were Devinter and AlinaX a bit ahead, everyone voted for either one or the other or both (except the authors themselves obviously). Moreover, I've looked and the numbers divides such that we can make two groups of six with everyone getting their sole preference or higher placed group.

WhiteTipDarkMeat dropped out, which means that we need a replacement from the bench. Comshaw registered first, but Tio_Narratore voted and Comshaw didn't so I've used his vote in assigning whoever replaces WTDM.

As per my suggestions the groups would be (not ordered yet)

We'll have to tweak that a fair bit, lol. Someone reached out to me yesterday wanting to help me finish that one and they have some pretty awesome ideas for it. It was also a bit long for this at about 15k words already, upon review. (So, kinda glad not many people voted for it, lol.)

However, running with your idea definitely has room to play with starting out in a mundane little city ripe with occult legend before getting into the thick of it on location for filming!

I'm great with beginnings and middles but horrible with endings. So, I suggest not putting me at the end unless you're okay with super ambiguous endings, lol. (Which I personally love, but know not everyone does.)

I want everyone to have fun working on this, not feel any sort of discomfort.

That being said; as earlier discussed, let us agree to avoid any extreme kinks. I do not want to hinder your creative process in any way - I believe in you all! - but let's make sure that there's also a clear red thread through the story, and that some of the characters introduced in previous chapters at least make an appearance in later ones, even if you do not wish for them to be the primary focus. A personal wish of mine would also be to include something erotic in each and every written part so that we can all demonstrate our talents at weaving words into sexual arousal. However, this is more of a suggestion than a rule, and if the narrative takes us in a different direction - well, then so be it!

Do any of you have preferences as for which part of the story you'd like to write? If so, please let me know ASAP. I put our names into a random order generator and got the following result:

If any of the teammembers would like to add other things to this list, or if there are other things you are uncomfortable with overall (such as non-sexual themes that would rip open old wounds, for instance) please speak up sooner than later - but also remember that just because another person wrote a scene including something you don't find appealing, that doesn't mean you have to follow them down that road. A non-sexual thing that I forgot to mention earlier - that I'd prefer - is to keep the story from becoming overly political, for instance. Simply put: Let's not jeopardize each other's comfort. You're all bright and reasonable people, so I think we'll be just fine.

The challenge of tying up a story produced by a herd of cats, sorry, you lot, appeals to me, so I'm quite happy being last. I've been working on a story recently with a painfully-shy and sexually-inexperienced chap (initially, at least...), so I'm in the right mindset.

How about setting up a new thread for the six of us to work up a few ideas and key points for the story?

I was going to let whomever goes first set the scene. I am sure some people voted for the idea simply because of how unrestricted it was, and that the relaxed approach was just as big of a part of the appeal as the prompt itself. If the whole story will just follow two people all the way through, or if there will be other couples in focus, I'll leave that to the author of each chapter. I'm definitely aiming to use the characters someone else has made and continue their journey when it's my turn to write as that's part of what I like about the challenge - continuing where someone else left it, in a sense. However, if you create the first part, that gives you the opportunity of introducing multiple potential couples and we can just take it from there.

Since this is your event, will you be creating the second thread? Just because my idea won, that doesn't mean that I desire to take over the show, and I certainly do not wish to steer things away from your original vision. Therefore, it's probably best if you take the reins, and I can co-lead the process whenever necessary.
