Nope! Not innuendo. I'm tired of plain old French soup, so I'm going to reinvent it a couple of ways. Caramelized veggie, broth, spice profile, crouton topping. That can be taken in a million different directions, Texan is only one of them.
And then I think it might have become innuendo, yeah :D

I shall stop wondering too then.

It is an exciting time here to love to garden and to eat. G and I eat of punchy salads of herbs and blossom, the marigolds are sweet and crunchy, the violas soft, the parsley fresh and so clean, and the rocket takes you to the moon with its clean pepper tastes. Today I made a quick leek, gots cheese and thyme tart to add some substance to another day of salad pickings. To make a tart is such a joy, so simple, so delicious, and so quick ( I confession, I used pastry from the freezer) yet it looks like simple, elegant food. Its one of my favourite things to make because it gives great pleasure, its simple but rich, and seems somehow to symbolise a happy meal in a good life, simple, rich, real, pleasing.

Pic!! :D

Which French soup do you mean? There are, quite literally, dozens of soups with authentic French provenance, as Holly Herrick demonstrates in her cookbook The French Cook: Soups and Stews.

I should add that the French, the inventors of le petit mort after all, are also quite good at innuendo. ;)

You could do much worse for inspiration.

You know, I'm really shocked at the number of fake cookbooks out there these days. Cookbooks where they obviously did not try each recipe, that you can just read and you know they won't work if you have been around a stove for more than a few months. I think they discourage people from learning how to cook, because they try a fake recipe and it doesn't work, so:cool: they think they are a failure.
Yeah, one could do way worse that JP!

Eat with our eyes, indeed, and that's a feast :)

Today I'm making chicken stock with chard stalks instead of celery. I prefer them, as they have more of a tart taste, and I think celery is a bit bitter. I'm also adding a few bits of beef scraps, and about a quarter of a piece of meaty bacon as it makes for a very rich stock. Fresh thyme and oregano, and even a fresh bay leaf from my laurel. Too bad it cooks for 1 to 2 days, because I already want to drink it down! :D

Spring rolls/egg rolls, whatever you want to call them. I made a yummy cabbage carrot filling and fried them up. It was so great to be creative in the kitchen again. I also improvised a sweet & sour sauce with 1 part homemade crabapple jelly, 2 parts Asian chili sauce, and 3 parts vinegar. Yum!

The price for this creativity is a kitchen that has been trashed by my littlest one. It was not too big a price to pay for such a tasty dinner.

That sounds delicious, ST!!

I had just a few cherries and just a few raspberries and a tiny bit of chocolate and a tiny bit of shortcrust mix, so of course I made a tiny cherry raspberry chocolate tart. Sound weird? Maybe. Taste delicious? Nom nom nom...

Ohhh that sounds so yummy.

I have a passion for edible flowers. Those are the easy lazy option right now so appear on most plates. ;) Any second now my roses will be out, then roses a pear on plates, and lavender in ratatouille and biscuits. But any edible flower risks appearing on a plate here. Marigolds, like in today's salad, taste very good. I grow them specifically for salads. The viola have no strong taste, but a nice soft texture, and a fresh taste. And they look nice, huh? :). We eat with our eyes a little. And the viola says to me ' eat my salad bed with happiness in your heart' so I do!

I do not enjoy elderflower much, but I'll drink it as cordial.

Your passion for the flowers has me wanting to go pluck some lilacs and do something fun with them tomorrow. Wouldn't the kids look at me bug-eyed when I suggest we eat flowers!
