We tried out a recipe for a casserole made with potatoes, onions, anchovies, cream topped with breadcrumbs and butter and served with boiled eggs, beer and Aalborg Jubilemum Akvavit.

Haha! You should have heard what my brain substituted when I got to those last three words :p

As for me, I made they ~ perfect~ potato salad today. Hooray! I always struggle to get the potatoes cooked exactly right, and today I did it! Yum! I like it almost as much as the ribs :D

Yes well, considering that I spelled it as if I had downed about half the bottle in one sitting...
Jubileum, not Jubilemum.

It's a good thing it's easier to drink.:D

I don't think that made a real difference in my brain :D

Just for giggles I tried a rack of ribs in the oven yesterday instead of the smoker. They were quite good, and would do if I had no access to a smoker. I prepped them the night before and coated them with a Memphis Rub, then wrapped then in foil and baked at 225°F for two hours, then took the foil off and cooked them for ~3 hours more and ate them with BBQ sauce to dunk in. They were delicious!

Fishsoup made with saithe(?), celeriac, fennel and other vegetables, saffron, shrimp and mussels.
It tasted great after a sunday walk.

Tonight we had midwestyankee's extremely decadent and very, very yummy lobster mac and cheese.

You know from the ingredients its going to be good, but it really is. :)

Thank you MWY

You're quite welcome. I can now report that following the same recipe but substituting good crab meat yields an equally satisfying dish. :)

Mindful of collar's warning about the beans I reduced the amount of both molasses and brown sugar asked for, I really only passed the brown sugar by the pot.

I think this was the right decision. The beans were good, the meat flavour almost lost in them, but seriously filling, and the sweet balance was ok, on the edge, so had I put all the amount it it would have been too much, collar was very right there. As it was it was ok, tasty. I'd have it again. Which is just as well as we have lots, and I really mean LOTS, left over. Too, too filling.

Yay! I saved a dinner! :D

Odd. I had to virtually double the amount of molasses I was using when baking beans to make them come out right.

Finn Crisp with La vache qui rit cheese, bell pepper and a huge cup of Earl Grey with milk.

Mr sweet tooth :D

Our recipes were almost certainly different. ;) on the plus side the beans have been ( ooooh, word bean and been makes me bizarrely happy) loved by the two other people I have fed them to.

I will thus probably make them again....cheap, nutritious and warming. Be good and easy to come back to after winter pursuits.

I didn't want to tell you before you tried them :D but the first time I ate Bostn baked beans they actually roiled around in my tummy for a while, and then made me sick  I tried them again, from a different source, years later thinking that was a fluke. Nope! My body does NOT like beans with sugar. I can eat all the ingredients in other stuff, no problem, but not in the same pot. I'm sorry, but.. Yuck :l

If you're not eating Boston-style baked beans, you might as well be eating plain boiled lentils. :p
