What's in the fridge

Slight hijack--Have you seen the fridges with the DVD players on them?

I know there's other stuff in there, but I'm too lazy to get up and look, so a partial list is what you're getting:

Milk (we go through 6 gallons a week!)
A gallon jug of water
Smuckers strawberry preserves
Homemade elderberry jam.
Baby carrots that are too old to eat
Juicy juice
Cooked diced chicken
An ancient head of lettuce (or was that cabbage? I can't tell)
String cheese
A jar of minced garlic

The upstairs fridge has a 20-pack of Diet Coke and six cans of beer in it.

Juicy juice
every time i see this advertised i wonder why we don't do it with other foods... milky milk, cheesy cheese, eggy eggs...

some things it doesn't work with. mayonaisey mayonaise, jelly-y jelly... i won't even TRY pepsi with this. it seems to go best with dairy products though.

i'm just wondering... two posters have said they have potatoes in their fridge... what's up with that? i've never done this. i just use a brown paper bag in the pantry.

same question for the canned tuna and canned fruit. really?

I believe you're right about the potatoes EJ. They're better off in a bag not in the fridge. That's where mine are....not in the fridge.

Milk; cow and soy (my son is allergic to regular)
Pickles; three jars
1 bottle white wine (my moms)
several containers cream cheese, 2 bars cream cheese
1 lunchables; I have no idea who this is for. Likely my sister.
Several jars baby food
1 baby-pasta container
Butter
Jellies
Jell-o pudding
individual applesauce containers
Dressing; ranch and ceasar
Lunch meat & sliced cheese
sour cream
6-pack wine coolers; 5 units left
grapes
1 pear
1 apple
6 oranges
1 bag shredded cheese
2 dozen eggs; my uncles raise chickens
Salsa
coffee; my dad grinds and mixes his own blends. He's obsessive.
mustard
ketchup
mayo
2 jars garlic clove
2 jars yeast
BBQ sauce
tiny bottle Jose Cuervo; been there at least 6 months
maple syrup
chocolate syrup
caramel sauce
1 bottle cough syrup
1 bowl leftover corned beef hash, a.k.a. "Dog Food", IMHO

Please don't ask about the freezer; we have two of those. :p There are six people living in this house right now; 4 adults, one toddler and one baby. I'm contstantly surprised the fridge is big enough.

.... you know, that's odd. Now that I think on it, there's usually a 12-pack of beer in there. Guiness or Fat Tire or something. Dad must be trying to conserve space.

i've never heard of fat tire beer... is that a local micro-brew? what's it like?

Uhmm... I know it's not local, partly 'cos we get it at Safeway and Albertsons, and partly 'cos there are commercials for it on TV, and it doesn't give any evidence of being a small company.

It's a middling-dark beer, I think. (Keep in mind I don't drink beer? :p I like Smirnoff.) Not as dark as guiness, but a bit darker than one of those amber-red things.

In general, unless with "less-civilised" company, he avoids stuff like Bud, Miller, etc.

Me, I think it's all awful. :D

Yes, potatoes and onions out of the fridge.

And tomatoes. Keeps them from getting mushy.

Let's see.... my fridge has lots of stuff in it.

Leftovers from last night's dinner (grilled chicken breast, corn on the cob, asparagus)

Fruits and Vegetables: Grapefruit, orange, apple, strawberries, grapes, potatoes, tomatoes, pineapple

Dairy Products: yogurt, milk, lots of cheese

Condiments: Mustard, Ketchup, bbq sauce, a few different marinades, sweet pickle relish, mayonnaise, teriyaki sauce, lemon juice, salad dressing, raspberry jelly, butter

Beverages: Pitcher of water (just tap water to get cold), diet 7-Up, Mike's Hard Lemonade

I think that covers everything.

I always thought a cold onion has less chance of making your eyes water??????

What with cock roaches here in Texas, I use to keep any thing open in the fridge - urgh the thought of one of those things in the floor gives me the shivers up and down my spine.

Ok - whats in our fridge? Hmmm well my stuff at least.....

2 yogart smoothies
4 cups of yogart
2 % milk (less then 1 glass)
Half n half (for coffee)
bowl of left over salsa
strawberry jam
Ranch salad dressing
Red wine/vinegar salad dressing
bottle of white wine (BG - it is almost 2 weeks old and I think still good :))
Pre cooked chicken and beef
Breakfast tortillas
tortilla's

Oh yea - 4 bottle's of Dos Equis - Amber --- soon to be three :p

this is true... put a freshly peeled onion into the fridge or freezer for a few minutes before cutting it. the cold stops the flow of the acid that causes tearing.

unpeeled onions, however, i just keep in a dry place.

Pickles

I always keep a jar of sweet pickles in the back of the fridge in case of an emergency. They stay good forever and when I'm hungry late at night and there's nothing else, there's always pickles. :)

Forget the potatoes and canned items - RED wine in the fridge? For shame! Never chill red.

My fridge - I don't cook, I only drink herbal tea, water, and red wine, and I'm excluding the things that belong to my roommates.

bagels
about 5 eggs
butter
cream cheese
chocolate truffles
aging baby carrots
asiago cheese
tiny leftover chip of smoked gouda
a half jar of marinara sauce
ketchup

If we're counting the freezer, then that includes:

1 pack veggie egg rolls
1 box veggie samosas
1 spinach feta pie
2 bowls vegan pad thai
1 garden veggie lasagna
1 box Morningstar Farms fake sausage links
1 box with about 6 soy nuggets left
1 package artichoke tortellini
maybe a package of veggie gyozas? don't remember.

all of the above from Trader Joe's.

In fact... I would starve to death if it were not for the Trader Joe's freezer section.

excellent!

what you could do is just save the receipt from the supermarket and list the refrigerated items from it... instead of thinking too hard about what you've added.

i'm nothing if not simple.

I chill port wine.

All "ewwww, that's not how it's *supposed* to be done" connisuer (sp??) stuff aside, is it actually *bad* for the wine to be chilled? Nobody's told me that it is, so I do.

I can't help it. I prefer my drinks either be cold or hot... none of this room temp stuff. I like my port cold. Really cold. Really, really cold. If the feckin' stuff would freeze, I'd probably do it and eat port-sicles. :p
