If the link didn't explain it, this is a test for your MBTI (Meyer-Briggs Type Indicator) results. Unlike horoscopes grouping by date and certain "tests" that seem to dictate your personality and quirks, the MBTI test simply takes what you say and shows what of sixteen quite flexible personality types you are. The result is shown in a four letter acronym, each letter having two options.
ISFJ or ENTP

Introverted or Extroverted
Sensing or Intuitive
Feeling or Thinking
Judging or Perceiving

Anyone who takes the test seriously usually comes out with quite the accurate result. :p
Another good reference for researching your result are the detailed descriptions here. The titles may be different (i.e. me being a Guardian vs Nurturer vs Protector depending on the site), but the details are pretty much the same.

The Test.
The 16 types.

INFP: The Idealist

"Their primary goal is to find out their meaning in life. What is their purpose? How can they best serve humanity in their lives? They are idealists and perfectionists, who drive themselves hard in their quest for achieving the goals they have identified for themselves.

Generally thoughtful and considerate, INFPs are good listeners and put people at ease. Although they may be reserved in expressing emotion, they have a very deep well of caring and are genuinely interested in understanding people. This sincerity is sensed by others, making the INFP a valued friend and confidante. An INFP can be quite warm with people he or she knows well.

INFPs do not like conflict, and go to great lengths to avoid it. If they must face it, they will always approach it from the perspective of their feelings. In conflict situations, INFPs place little importance on who is right and who is wrong. They focus on the way that the conflict makes them feel, and indeed don't really care whether or not they're right. They don't want to feel badly. This trait sometimes makes them appear irrational and illogical in conflict situations. On the other hand, INFPs make very good mediators, and are typically good at solving other people's conflicts, because they intuitively understand people's perspectives and feelings, and genuinely want to help them.

INFPs are flexible and laid-back, until one of their values is violated. In the face of their value system being threatened, INFPs can become aggressive defenders, fighting passionately for their cause. When an INFP has adopted a project or job which they're interested in, it usually becomes a "cause" for them. Although they are not detail-oriented individuals, they will cover every possible detail with determination and vigor when working for their "cause".

When it comes to the mundane details of life maintenance, INFPs are typically completely unaware of such things. They might go for long periods without noticing a stain on the carpet, but carefully and meticulously brush a speck of dust off of their project booklet.

INFPs do not like to deal with hard facts and logic. Their focus on their feelings and the Human Condition makes it difficult for them to deal with impersonal judgment. They don't understand or believe in the validity of impersonal judgment, which makes them naturally rather ineffective at using it. Most INFPs will avoid impersonal analysis, although some have developed this ability and are able to be quite logical. Under stress, it's not uncommon for INFPs to mis-use hard logic in the heat of anger, throwing out fact after (often inaccurate) fact in an emotional outburst.

INFPs have very high standards and are perfectionists. Consequently, they are usually hard on themselves, and don't give themselves enough credit. INFPs may have problems working on a project in a group, because their standards are likely to be higher than other members' of the group. In group situations, they may have a "control" problem. The INFP needs to work on balancing their high ideals with the requirements of every day living. Without resolving this conflict, they will never be happy with themselves, and they may become confused and paralyzed about what to do with their lives."

Oh yeah. The crazy, irrational, romantic, stain-ignoring, controlling crusader. :D

Pheff, who needs labels?

Okay, I'm testing as INFP, but the description doesn't completely fit. I'm extremely detail oriented, to the point of annoying myself even. I'm also aware of the mundane details of life maintenance, but will often choose to do something more relaxing or fun than make sure everything is exactly in its place. Hard facts and logic are actually important to me, although my feelings always come into play on nearly anything I'm being factual about.

So I'm not sure how much value there really is in this label.

It's largely North American to create categorical labels and then shoehorn everything into the defined pigeon holes. Somewhat of an Aristotlean approach to definition: a is not b.
I find Cartesian models much more useful; rather than discrete categories, they plot the space something (or someone) actually occupies in the dimensions under consideration. SUch an approach does a much better job of diagramming the subtle variations that are an essential part of the nature of all things.

You sound like you have experience in analyzing value systems. The Cartesian model makes me think of a chess game played on five levels (maybe from Star Trek????). I'm sure it's substantially more detailed than five levels, but I see how someone could be at point XY on Level 1 and someone else at point XY on Level 5, each sharing certain traits and still varying. Is that conceptually what you suggest?

I saw this thread when I was first on Lit and decided probably two months ago I wasn't going to take the test. Tonight I was bored and so thought "what they hey." But my results tonight are fairly consistent with these "tests" in that I never fit in the exact box. I realized this as a teenager, taking all the personality tests in magazines.

I will admit, though, that this test made me want to go back to school again. I keep finding interesting things that I would love to just go study, personalities and how the brain works being some of those things. Now, if only my intuitive side would morph into psychic ability so I can win the super lotto and become a professional student.

It was pretty difficult to answer some of the questions as I could see myself doing both or finding both statements true in some cases.

You Are An ENTP

The Visionary

You are charming, outgoing, friendly. You make a good first impression.
You possess good negotiating skills and can convince anyone of anything.
Happy to be the center of attention, you love to tell stories and show off.
You're very clever, but you are not disciplined enough to do well in structured environments.

In love, you see everything as a grand adventure. You enjoy taking risks for love.
And if things don't work out, you're usually not too much worse for the wear!

You would make a great entrepreneur, marketing executive, or actor.

At work, you need a lot of freedom to pursue your own path and vision.
How you see yourself: Analytical, creative, and peaceful

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Detached, wishy-washy, and superficial

No, it's more so mapping the space. So, if you think of a two-dimensional Cartesian diagram, it would be very much like a graph with x and y axes, but rather than be at a point, the thing mapped would be of a space, and not necessarily a regular space. It could be defined by the series of points that traced the perimeter of its irregular shape. (Damn! Lit threads lack drawing tools). Any thing mapped could, of course, partially overlap with anything else, and so the subtle differences and specifications wouldn't be lost in stuffing it into one box (or point) on the graph.

You Are An ENTJ
The Executive

You are a natural leader - with confidence and strength that inspires others.
Driven to succeed, you are always looking for ways to gain, power, knowledge, and expertise.
Sometimes you aren't the most considerate person, especially to those who are a bit slow.
You are not easily intimidated - and you have a commanding, awe-inspiring presence.

In love, you hold high standards... for yourself, for your relationship, and for your significant other.
While it's easy for you to impress others, it's hard for you to find someone who impresses you.

At work, you are organized and good at delegating. You understand how to achieve goals.
You would make a great CEO, entrepreneur, or consultant.

How you see yourself: Rational, calm, and objective

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Inflexible, controlling, and overbearing

That was frustrating because most of my answers would have been "both"

You would describe your style as:
Enthusiastic
Matter of fact

I can be both. Sometimes at the same time.

When explaining something difficult to understand, you:
Give as many details as possible
Use metaphors and analogies
Yes I do-- both.

You think conflict is:
Hard for you to deal with
A normal part of relationships
Yup-- it's a normal part of relationships that is hard to deal with at times.

You would rather be:
Appreciated
Accomplished

Umm... appreciated for my accomplishments. Thank you.

You are the type of person who:
Has a gazillion windows open on your computer
Tends to focus on one task at a time

Now this one-- I could answer! :D

You Are An ENFP
The Inspirer

You are also unconventional, irreverent, and unimpressed by authority.

Incredibly perceptive, you can usually sense if someone has hidden motives.
You use lots of colorful language and expressions. You're quite the storyteller! (this is actually kinda far off, I'm perceptive, but I never trust what I suspect. And I suck at telling stories. xP)

In love, you are quite the charmer. And you are definitely willing to risk your heart.
You often don't follow through with your flirting or professed feelings. You break a lot of hearts.

At work, you are driven but not a workaholic. You just always seem to enjoy what you do.
You would make an excellent entrepreneur, politician, or journalist.

How you see yourself: compassionate, unselfish, and understanding

When other people don't get you, they see you as: gushy, emotional, and unfocused

(most of the rest rings a bell, except that I don't break a lot of hearts. I haven't seen one worth picking up in the first place for a while, and I don't pick up a heart unless I'm willing to love it.)

And here I thought I was special, but it looks like a lot of people are the Idealist…

So in my creatively created imagined world, I’m an open minded closed off intensely sensitive unrealistic woman? Yeah, I guess I can live with that….as long as I’m creative about it.

You Are An INTP
The Thinker

You are analytical and logical - and on a quest to learn everything you can.
Smart and complex, you always love a new intellectual challenge.
Your biggest pet peeve is people who slow you down with trivial chit chat.
A quiet maverick, you tend to ignore rules and authority whenever you feel like it.

In love, you are an easy person to fall for. But you're not an easy person to stay in love with.
Although you are quite flexible, you often come off as aloof or argumentative.

At work, you are both a logical and creative thinker. You are great at solving problems.
You would make an excellent mathematician, programmer, or professor.

How you see yourself: Creative, fair, and tough-minded

When other people don't get you, they see you as: arrogant, cold, and robotic.

My MBTI results tend to vary between INTP and INFP. Today seemed to be an INTP day.

See above, Stella; pigeon holes don't reflect reality. If you have to map it out, try the Cartesian approach to the space - it doesn't have to be either/or.
