Willing to edit

The idea came to me when someone, and I can't remember who, posted a thread saying they were willing to edit. I went in and made the comment that there were several brand new threads from people who were ASKING for editors and did that person bother to pm those people to offer to edit for them.

It just seemed to me as if people come in and rather than read through the threads already up, they automatically put up a new thread. I'm not critisizing anyone for that, hell, I did the exact same thing my first time in. I just thought it might be a good idea to have a location people could go and see a list of who's currently active.

The majority of people who pm me tell me that they've either had a thread up with no response, or have already pm'd other people with no response. I can't personally take any more jobs; every plate I have is full, but on the other hand, I have no idea who is taking jobs (other than to browse through the threads and look at dates).

My choices are either take their story and find an undented surface to bang my head on, or just tell them no flat out and let them fend for themselves. (and to be honest, my editing is suffering because of it, my last editing job sucked, I admit it sucked, I apologized for it and I am still sorry)

I would never ask someone to ONLY come to a single thread, I certainly don't find myself that important. It was only an idea and that's why I brought it up here first, to gauge people's reaction. It really was no big deal.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. :) :rose:

Good points. in response I offer the following: (not arguing with you, but bouncing my ideas off of you ...since you definately know what your talking about)

1.Many new writers are afraid to post in the Story Feedback Forum..since they are new and especially writers like myself with no concept of grammer or spelling! lol

2. This would be a smaller thread/more comfy etc. for new writers-sort of redundant I understand, since this had been tried before, but I think this one would tanscend and survive.

3. The bouncing story ideas/proofreading/feedback that I was talking about above would be done via PM-the great thing about this thread is that there would be, perhaps and index or list of people that would be open to proofreed/edit/and offer feedback.

Some very good points I concede. :) Unfortunately, it comes back to my first point: You cannot force any writers and/or editors to post in such a thread.

Believe me, I would love if there was a complete overhaul of the Editors' list and if there was some way for writers and/or editors to know who's still available, who's doing an impeccable job, who's crappy etc... Believe me, I would welcome that!

But, the fact remains that Lit's owners haven't seen fit to work on this yet, maybe they'll never will, maybe it's in their future plans; I don't know, I'm not privy to their decision making. :(

We could discuss the value of such a thread, and yes I agree it would be invaluable, until we were blue in the fact, it won't change the reality one iota.

Meg, as I said to Seth, you have good arguments, good ideas and I hate to be the one shooting them down. :(

If you want to start such a thread, please be my guest, do so. Just don't be surprised, hurt, annoyed, angry etc... if it doesn't fly higher than a flea on crap. People aren't even reading the site rules and FAQ's, do you really think they'll read your thread more attentively? I know I don't.

alot of action here since ive been gone. But, i do see some ideas and, some regretful drawbacks of the ideas.

but hell, its worth a shot right? at least someone is taking an interest. Its the least you guys could do to help out a bit. and its nice to see people take initiative.

I had a thought that just might work.

If we started a thread on the first of each month with the title Available Editors for [Month] [Year] and it was deleted (by LadyC) after two months then we would have a rolling list which could not have anyone on it who had left more than two months ago.

I'll try starting one on 1st July and we can see what happens.

Yep, I'll support you too. If done that way it might work, hoping that writers will look at it instead of roaming around. Anyway, start the thread, I'll even pin it every month and delete it at the end of the month; that way there'll always be a new thread each month.

Snooper, you know that you're an absolute genius!:rose: If anyone can pull that off and make it work, it's you! No one has the tenacity, endurance and intelligence that you have, not even me!:D

I like that idea and thanks for your help with it ladyC! You really are awesome!

you still keep the forum together for us, lady Ci, and not all moderators would work with their members like you do, so you deserve the thanks.

i like how much of a cohesive unit this forum can be and enjoy the discussions the questions can start.

in addition the way i see it, if you are going to take it down at the end of the month anyway, we can always view it as a work in progress and experiement with what works and what doesn't.

i think snooper is perfect to start the thread, he's been here longer and knows more of how it should go :)

In all the years I've been Mod there's only been one rotten apple, one who wasn't playing nicely with anyone and who thought 'he' was God's gift to editing and that the World owed him. Fortunately, that 'person' has gone to greener pasture. Other than that, the people on here are pretty helpful, and after a while we grow to learn how to play with each other.

Snooper is definitely the perfect person to start such a thread, not only because his experience on here but also because of his experience as a writer and editor. Everyone whom I've spoken to have nothing but praise for Snooper.

He's and old grouch but he's MY;) old grouch. I wouldn't have grown as a person and as a writer if it wasn't for Snooper's stubbornness and tenacity. You should have seen our first few exchanges:eek:,that was scary!

We both learned where our own set of boundaries where, I've learned to respect and appreciate him. Now, I couldn't imagine the place without him.

Now stop blushing, Snooper; you already knew all that.:rose:

i've browsed through and seen some of the old exchanges.

i actually read here for quite a while before i joined and read all the faq's and some posts, got the lay of the land before i jumped in.

it's hard, sometimes, to get along with people online. you can't see their facial expressions or hear their tone of voice, so something that could be taken a couple of ways is hard to read.

i guess in the end, just being honest and respectful gets us through a lot of that :)

... I'll even pin it every month ...
That's a good idea.

... and delete it at the end of the month; that way there'll always be a new thread each month.
Each thread needs to be up for two months, so that there isn't a week or two of nearly empty list at the beginning of each month.

... Snooper, you know that you're an absolute genius! ...
I'm well aware of that. It is a burden at times. <wink>

Aren't there any editors available? If someone is available to edit a Lesbian Love story, could you please let me know?

Thanks!
-Sheila

tell people how long your story is and how much you want them to do, sometimes that helps to get people to offer.

i know there are a couple of new threads here where people are offering to edit.

i can't take it, i'm in school 5ish hours a day and homework after that. in addition i have more than one author waiting for me to reply, and they've been waiting a couple/few weeks and will need to wait another until after session 1 finals.

i can probably take it in another week and a half, but that's the best i can do right now...

i'm sorry sheila, i know it's frustrating

It is 4,002 words. I'm looking for a simple grammar edit. The story is complete as chapter 1, and I am satisfied with it's content. I just would like someone to check it's mechanics.

Thanks!

hi jessy...how's it going? must have been busy, rarely see you anymore

good actually. Ive been out with friends mostly, since one just graduated high school and i turned 21 a week ago. My friend mike's computer got destroyed, (battery over heated actually, almost caught on fire) so i spend alot of time with him to ease his boredom and mine.
