Winter Holiday 2024 Support Thread

UPDATE-Updated
My story count of published stories - 11th 14, 12th 26, 13th 31, 14th 36, 15th 43, 16th 48, 17th 48, 18th 49.
So 14 + 12 + 5 + 5 + 7 + 5 + 0 + 1 (but might update later in the day and if I notice I'll update!)
OK, this is probably the weekend lull that I have noticed before, so expect a bumper Monday 18 Tuesday 19th.
Actingup's graph will have a slump / bump but I am sure he can predict over it!

I have made a (small) rod for my own back (with extra flail) and would stop the flagilation but have been told NOT TO!
I just saw that mine, Christmas Connection, will be out tomorrow. It’s a romance, most definitely, but because there’s three people involved, it’s also my first foray into group sex. There were times where having a third person just made it feel a little unwieldy and redundant, and other times where it was absolutely necessary to the story. I don’t know how other people write, but I’m a pantser (versus a plotter, knowing full well that most of us here are no-pantsers…), and I so rarely have any idea what’s coming next until I find myself typing it. Like “whoa, she said that? I had no idea she was even thinking that!”

Anyway, I enjoyed writing it.

Stupid question: How do you know in advance when your piece is coming out? Is it that it is marked as "pending" but as tomorrow's date showing (i.e., mine says 11/19)?

Also, the thing I LOVE about writing is how I am the creator, and yet the creation is somehow beyond me in some way. I might think I know what's going to happen, but the words and sentences can take me anywhere.

Pending will change to "NEW" and a date will appear for its publication date.

Good on you for discovering the secret of writing. We control our own worlds and in the end provide our own entertainment that we share with others. I've given up TV because I find my stories more intriguing than the dreck that's pumped out by Hollywood.

As Dunleigh said - I submitted my story early, so it had the date of the start of the competition, not the next day, which is the norm.

I like to (approximately) quote Terry Pratchett (Discworld and more) who* said he sets the stage, and introduces characters to it, with an idea where he expects it to go, but then has to keep up as they have their own ideas, much better than his own. - Sounds like you WriterPerson314159 and I have the same 'problem'.

*GRHS - not that he belived in God or his Soul but whatever there might be, His is Rested. 😢

The annoying thing though is that when they have their own thoughts and feelings, the porn movie plots all fall apart :) It turns out that most people like to have conversations and complicated messy lives before they jump into bed...

That sure sounds like my literary hero. I wrote an Octalogy (8 stories making up one main story) set on Sir Terry's discworld and soon found that my characters only needed me to operate the keyboard and nudge the spell checker on occasion. They completed episode 1 on time and under budget. Before I knew it they had taken the throne of Lancre, employed Dragons (big ones, not swamp dragons) to enforce the law, and were importing gold from the Agatean Empire. (Don't get me started on the trouble they caused on XXXX!) Of course I can never publish their antics but it amuses me and garners a few good reviews.

Nope, it's exactly the appropriate time. You'll need to read the story to the end to figure out why. ;)
Boxing Day is traditionally the day for charity giving, including to your servants, isn't it? We've laid off all of our servants, so I've lost touch a bit.

Western New York is really the only place in the US were I've seen Boxing Day celebrated, and it's always charitable giving rather than the original intent of tipping servants. But we'll tip the staff at our local bars, pubs, and restaurants a little more richly
