Worst/Favourite Feedback You've Received

Worst feedback ever?
Well it's not an actual comment but here goes...

"5265 views - 1 favorites"

That was two years ago, I'm only now starting to write again after being disheartened so much.
It was 0 favorites last time I checked, I am now sending that member a thank you note and continuing hastily with my next stories.

5265 views does not necessarily mean that 5265 people read your story, let alone read it and didn't like it. Before I was a member, I enjoyed many stories and never left a comment or vote. One of my stories I have 40,000 supposed views and only 4 favorites. My ratio is much, much worse than yours!

Try not to take it too seriously, just write because you like it. :)

That's true. A lot of times, I read the title of a story and it sounds interesting, so I open it and read a few lines. If the reading style or subject matter isn't something I'm interested in (or don't like), I close it without reading the rest of it.

I also like a lot of stories that I never add to my favorites. I should, though. I'm going to start doing that.

Well, I do think other people may have had a problem with the content.
It's a story about Nymphs (The mythical creatures, not Nymphomaniacs) And it contains bisexual (Both m/m and f/f) and incest content.
I also didn't use a volunteer editor because two VE's read the story and pulled out, I think I'll hold on for one next time around.

Just starting to write a bit myself and have a question on this point. I understand that by definition drunk would mean you are a past a certain point and it would be sort of an oxy moron to still be functioning as if you were sober.

But it is fiction and I think peole look for reasons to like a character or think they are "cool" so having one that gets "better as they get drunker" could be something that makes the character more interesting.

On this site people write about mothers loving their sons, werevolves, ridiculous group orgies. Every guy wants to watch his wife fuck, and every woman wants to be raped. I don't think someone who can function while drunk should be enough of a detriment to a story that it would ruin it.

Also by it being a world of fiction you should be able to get away with more not less. Isn't fiction supposed to suspend reality?

Yes, in fiction reality is suspended. No-one has bodily functions unless germane to the plot and, in Lit, problems with STDs, conception and periods don't exist - unless they carry the plot. No-one is drunk unless the author needs it - do you?

Fictional characters doing things they will regret later after a shot or two too many is great but trying to express the dialogue of a drunk is off-putting unless vital to explain a subsequent (usually very negative) action that drives the narrative.

Being drunk is a massive turnoff, I remember it from the college gropers. Ask yourself why your character needs to be drunk and not just a little over-excited. There is a formula that even best-selling authors use, that downplays the negative effects and uses slight intoxication to justify out-of-character behaviour.

And when they wake up in the morning, they aren't hung-over and don't regret what they did the night before, unless (like you said), the plot calls for it.

There's also the fact that whatever odd thing one character is in, the other partner will be into, too. I first realized this years ago when reading one of the magazines. In this story, this guy had some kind of pubic hair fetish and wouldn't you know it, the main girl in the story was into that, too!

It's funny, though. You can come across a story about rape or incest or any number of things that are taboo and you will see people posting comments calling the author sick or disgusting, but I always wonder what possesses someone to read a story that's on subject matter that he/she doesn't like.

So the feedback thing...hmm. This is something I've been thinking about actually. If we all really intrinsically enjoyed writing, why would we publish stories for others to read and then feel affronted by others' opinions?

Alright, let's change the "we" to "me" so I'm not speaking for others. I like to write. I admit some of the things I write are awful, terrible and should only be looked for "what not to do" purposes, but I like sharing what I've written with others here. There's an element of surprise and anticipation while waiting to see what others think, or even if they will like it. It almost doesn't matter to me IF someone actually does like my writing, but the validation sure feels good. (that might be BS, of course it matters)

I publish stories here for a few reasons:
1. It's easy!

2. I find it really sexy to not only write what I'm thinking or imagining, but share it with other people in a safe way without worrying about censure.

3. I value feedback, but I understand the nature of the beast. Some feedback will be trollish and ugly only serving a purpose for the feedbacker while other gems will actually help the writer improve the craft. I'm not at a place where I can share this type of writing with people I actually know. Maybe someday, but not now.

Currently, erotica is the only genre I write, which means if I don't publish here and accept feedback, then I won't ever improve as a writer. But, back to my first comment...why do I write? I haven't figured out if I WANT to improve as a writer as much as just write and share. Either way, this is a good outlet. If that means I need to anticipate nonconstructive criticism, well I guess it's just part of the package.

Just my two cents.

My favorite feedback was on a nonconsent story by a guy who offered to change his name to that of my male character and move in with me. I don't get a lot of feedback, but that was cute and original. And flattering. XD

I enjoy writing. I enjoy knowing people are reading what I've written. I especially enjoy people telling me they get off to what I write. I don't dislike negative feedback, especially constructive feedback, which may or may not help me improve. I just don't understand feedback that isn't the least bit expressive other than to complain. "I didn't like the story" and "You suck" don't tell me very much.

I wonder how many people out there make negative votes on stories because the stories aren't in the genre they like or have a few minor details they don't like.

I received one last week that I appreciated:

Bootylicious!

The part where the main character is pinned, straddled and has his manhood ridden hard reminded me vividly of some of my own BBW experiences. But the cream of the story is the queening: large-and-in-charge, not-gonna-take-no-for-an-answer, a-woman's-place-is-on-your-face, lie-down-and-beg worship of the divine and bountiful African American ass! All my submissive fantasies about certain R'N'B divas, actresses and comediennes (you fill in the names) all rolled into one sweaty, breathless package.

It doesn't help my writing get any better, but I know at least one person totally got the message.

People love feeling outraged. It gives them a rush to get wound up and lecture about how depraved and evil up person-who-doesn't-share-their-tastes is. It's all over Literotica, even from people whose tastes aren't exactly vanilla.

So you can get up, read a smut story, maybe get your rocks off, then leave a note telling the author how fucked up they are. Your guilt gets transferred, and you can go about the rest of your day whistling and thinking about just how much better you are than person-who-doesn't-share-your-tastes.

I never thought of it like that, but I bet there are people who are like that.

I always figured the ones who leave the negative feedback without leaving a name are the ones who feel superior to the writer by telling the writer how much he/she sucks.

I think you're exactly right. For some people it's much worse to have conceived the idea and written it down than just read it and apply judgement.

Yeah, it's hard to find a good editor in the beginning, but it's worth the effort. Eventually you'll find one or two or three people who do a good job for you and you can count on them. I've found the VE list to be worthless, but the Editor's Forum to be very helpful.

I'm not expert enough to comment on your story issues, but it's my understanding that you should post your story in the most extreme category that fits the content.

This is an absolutely perfect explanation. :)

I got some good feedback for my first series 'Death & Love'

http://www.literotica.com/s/death-and-love-ch-01

But on almost every story I got a comment from this one anonymous reader who signed it his comments DBRS everytime. They criticized a lot of elements of my stories and they made no sense. For example;

Chapter 1 - 'don't promise that you will rewrite the story and fix the stupid goofs unless you are going to do it. this needs a total rewrite and a good editor way too many spelling errors. SHOW SOME PRIDE IN YOUR WORK AND SOME RESPECT FOR THE READERS AND DO A REWRITE AND ALWAYS USE A GOOD EDITOR BEFORE POSTING.
DBRS'

I had rewritten the story and there was no spelling mistakes since I use a Microsoft word before submitting my story.

Chapter 2 when I killed a character (T.J.) - 'killing T.J. was not needed and like most other writers here you will probably sweep it under the rug and fail to have the killer caught and punished'

The story was just submitted and I did have a plan, they accused me of something I hadn't done and didn't do. In fact the killer was caught

Chapter 3 after a fight killed a villain - 'instead of improving you just keep getting worse might be a good idea to quit while you are behind. violence is never good in a story unless it is in the nonconsent/reluctance area.'

It was a fight between two guys and nothing sexual about it, violence has been in other stories by other authors but somehow mine wasn't allowed it.

There are others but those one were the biggest annoyance. Thankfully DBRS was in the majority and I got mostly positive feedback, the best was in Chapter 4 and a reader left this comment.

'Can this story get better?

I dont believe it can. The author seems to setting the readers up for a tragic ending but he has left the plot open for a possible miracle cure with the introduction of TJ's tissue match. As an atheist who does not believe in miracles, I am conviced that we readers will be subjected to a tragedy.
Whatever the final outcome, I urge all readers to have a box of tissues to hand.

DBRS is a serial troll he's gotten me a few times as well.

I had a question about moderating comments. I recently posted my first story, and I've gotten some phenomenal feedback, but I got two instances that were a little different. The first was the joyful outrage. It was scathing, bitter, and to the point. I deleted it.

The other was the exact opposite side of the room. This person was excited. A little bit too much so. They wanted to see my main character raped anally and made to swallow his own come. I know that there is a niche for this, but it isn't mine. It made me a bit uncomfortable, so I deleted that.

Now, was I wrong to moderate? I Didn't really feel wrong after the first comment. Writing erotica makes me feel great and turns me on, and I just have to laugh at them trolling. But the second one was someone who enjoyed my work... so I feel a little gray there. How do others feel?

Personally I never remove a comment. The trolls I take with a grain of salt and honestly an over the top negative comment can even draw attention to your series through the feedback portal.

As for an over the top sexual one, those are great! I mean this is a sex site and honestly I've had a couple that almost made me want to say "ewwww!" but they're funny and others find them funny as well. Just roll with it.

Delete whatever comment you want to for whatever reason you want to delete it.

Delete whatever comment you want to for whatever reason you want to delete it.

To me that falls under "Giving them the satisfaction." in the case of trolls anyway. You delete it they feel they got to you and they will return. Let there dumb statement stay there and they will figure you don't care.

I also want to correct something that I said. I have deleted two comments. Both of which mentioned and gushingly praised another author's series. I have suspicions they were from alts but whether or not they were from them or just idiotic sycophants I did get rid of those. I won't be a billboard for someone else's work, and feel bad for them that they would have to use me to advertise.

Personally. I don't delete comments for the most part. I have always figured that people were entitled to their opinion regardless of how idiotic. I believe in my entire time I have deleted two comments both of which were just vile spewing of vitriol.

I have answered several comments in the comments section and I always reply to personal e-mails if people leave me an address.

I disagree. I think it frustrates them--that they don't have the power to slap a comment on your story that can't be erased.

I've had them come back mad as hell when I erased the comment and then slink off when I've erased the second comment as well.

So, I disagree entirely with your perspective.

You're just letting them control you by making you feel you should or have to leave the comment there.

Well opinions vary. For me personally if I were to say for example put something nasty up on one of your stories, I would feel I "got to you" if you deleted it and do it again. IF you left it then I would figure you don't give a shit and move on.

You see it the other way. But hey, that's waht makes life interesting. If we agreed and nodded our heads at everything we heard we'd be an organized religion rather than a forum.
