Sex & Shenanigans

Trains are AMAZING

all kinds.
I want to ride the AMTRAK that crosses the country with those huge window cars so you can observe everything. If I were rich I'd buy my own train car and press someone against the glass as we ride through the wilderness and mountains lost in each other, hopefully the next train car along couldn't hear us.

I love taking Amtrak down the Columbia Gorge. Absolutely beautiful!

My grandfather was a brakeman and switchman for Union Pacific, so I grew up around them. Got to ride in the caboose on freight trains, playing chess with Gran'pa on a small, magnetic chess set he had for that purpose, and rode Amtrack trains a lot. My favorite was watching the roundhouse in the train yard -- just this massive clockwork that looked like some toy. I inherited the chess set (which I use to play chess with my kid when we are camping), and his railroad pocket watch, and I cherish both.

Yeah, I like trains too.

Amtrak being useful for actually going somewhere is maybe what I miss most about the Northeast.
I take the Amtrak to NYC on occasion, though it takes longer because the rail lines are pretty shit. The train gets up to max speed for maybe 30% of the line. turns a 3 hour drive into almost 5 1/2 hour one. It's a decent time though if you enjoy train rides.

Not to mention a great deal of the stations are not even ADA compliant.

The train between DC and NYC was usually faster than driving because traffic, especially the tunnels, sucked.

Oooh…one of the 3 free birthday books I had narrowed it down to earlier was a novella based on a song by Daveed Diggs’ group! It has a really interesting magical realism premise, but seems very emotional and possibly devastating in a way that I want to read, but may not re-read. My compromise with myself was to pick one of the other 2 ebooks to add to my permanent collection, and check out this ebook from one of my LA libraries.

I’ve taken the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from San Diego to Los Angeles and back a couple times. It was lovely, but last year or so, a portion of the track was wiped out in a landslide or something, and now only a portion of it is running 🙁
