Day 4: A song that has profanity
I was cuttin the rug down at a place called The Jug with a girl named Linda Loo.
When in walked a man with a gun in his hand lookin for you know who.
He said "hey there fella with the hair colored yella, whatcha tryin to prove?
Cuz that's my women there and I'm a man who cares and this might be all for you... I said "excuse me"...

No I ain't gonna fight him over his cunt.

I was scared and fearing for my life, shaking like a leaf on a tree.
Cuz he was lean and mean and big and bad Lord and pointin that gun at me.
Oh wait a minute mister I didn't even kiss her, don't want no trouble with you
And I know you don't owe me but I wish you would let ma ask one favor from you.
Oh won't you gimme me three steps gimme three steps mister, gimme three steps toward the door.
Gimme three steps gimme three steps mister, you'll never see me know more.

Whew that's for sure

Well the crowd pulled away and I began to pray and the water fell on the floor
And I'm a tellin you son well it ain't no fun starin straight down a 44
Well he turned and screamed at Linda Lou and that's the break I was lookin for
And you could hear me screamin a mile away as I was headed out towards the door...

Day 4: A song that has a profanity.

It almost feels like cheating to pick an Eminem song for this, honestly, but also, I sort of love this song? It's so defiant and so very of its time as the lead track on his second record. The was so much 'discourse' around his first record that he of course turned it up another level for the second one. And it was all very much of a time and place, but it still hits real good today, I think.

Day 3: A song that was a great awards show performance.

As always, I'm over here a day or more behind on this stuff. But I sort of use this moment as the point in time at which Brandi Carlile went from someone who was known by people who know to someone who was known by a broad audience. But it's a fantastic performance and she's as much a power house here as ever, and it makes me sad to think that this took place during the before-Covid times, when we were just so naive.

I played this in the car yesterday and my daughter said “Mommy, this is about bullying, right? I don’t like bullies.” 🥰

Day 4: A song that has profanity

'Til Tuesday doesn't use profanity, which is what makes this song, one of several about Aimee Mann and Jules Shear's imploding relationship, more impactful. Mann's exhaustion at Shear refusing to commit and giving up on all of it just comes out:

'I wish you: belief in life
Belief in fate
Belief you are lucky
And worth the wait
'Cause life could be lovely
Oh, life could be fucking great"

"(Believed You Were) Lucky," 'Til Tuesday.

Day 4: A song that has profanity

Ooh, I think she likes me
Wonder what we might be
She bit on my bottom lip and went, split it
You're so fucken hot

Will Joseph Cook - She Likes Me

Day 5: A song from a genre you don't normally listen to

This was really hard! I generally like and listen to all kinds of music but... since I only have one friend that keeps me up to date on the KPop scene... it'll have to be

Black Pink - Lovesick Girls

Day 5: A song from a genre you don't normally listen to

Pokémon Theme - Jason Paige

I listen to a lot of music from different genres, depending on my mood and circumstances. So, I decided to go with the genre of TV show theme songs 🤪 however, this particular theme song was so much fun, perfect for more than just it's time. And, Jason Paige couldn't help but absolutely jam out in the recording booth too! So, please enjoy Jason Paige having the time of his life recording the Pokémon Theme song 🤗

Day 5: A Song From a Genre You Don't Normally Listen To

I don't know why I decided to jump in on a difficult one, but here we are. I listen to nearly everything, but punk and ska were never things I got into and this kind of has both influences in it. There were a lot of songs like this one that crossed over into that Alternative realm with regular airplay though, so a song that I both like, but I could not tell you two more songs by these guys because I've never once thought to myself that I should go listen to more punk mixed with ska.

Day 5: A song from a genre that you don’t typically listen to (rap)

luther - Kendrick Lamar & SZA

This might not be rap... 🤦‍♀️ It’s R&B. I don't listen to R&B as often as I do other genres, so it still works for the prompt.
