Day 26: A song from the 10s

On a track with absolute legends like Jay-Z, Kanye, Rick Ross, and Bon Iver, a relative unknown at the time (during recording, Justin Vernon admitted he had no idea who she was) absolutely obliterates all of them with her verse on this track.

As it turns out, Nicki Minaj is the motherfucking monster.

Day 26 - Songs from the 2010’s

Rodrigo y Gabriela's 9 Dead Alive is composed of songs written for specific people who have passed on but are still having an impact in this world, so extra imaginary bonus points as this song is about Harriet Tubman.

"Misty Moses," Rodrigo y Gabriela (2014)

Day 26: A song from the 10s

Being fetishized because you're a WOC feels really gross especially because their racism never stops there. This song captures the rage it elicits very well.

I love this. I love the song, (and I am jumping down that rabbit hole right now), but that sketch was so...horrific. I get the feel he ad-libbed it, considering the out takes at the end, especially where she broke during the K-Pop conversation. God, I needed that laugh -- I can't imagine how she felt.

Speechless - Naomi Scott (Aladdin 2019)

I don't love a lot of the live action Disney stuff, but I adored what they did with Jasmine's character. This song was such a great addition to the storyline, making Jasmine more fleshed out and relatable to many women.

WOC +1 = 6
