let me tell you a little story about the longest week of my life...around eleven years old...my dads twentieth high school reunion...drove in a car (that had no business trying to make the trip) from dallas to orange county california...my father, myself, and my two younger sisters...cars only had am/fm radios and tape players...the only tape that could be agreed upon was a mixed tape from a car wash...so this song was played every couple hours and every time the chorus came on my father honked the horn to the beat of the song...we also drove back from california through nevada and saw the grand canyon...quite the adventure, but never wanted to go on a long road trip with my family ever again

When I start a road trip it is a minimum 6 hour drive, that's a lot of music and audiobook time. I usually pull out of my driveway with whichever song is on repeat at the time; when I'm done fueling up and turn onto the highway.. it has to be something with energy. Always leave the ranch at a dead run, right?

Thinking along the same lines as summer reine above me… playing whatever to get out of the driveway, map going, gas, get situated. Then, once we get on the highway, it’s time to hit it.

I’m gonna ask you if I can throw something on to show you. My latest obsession. You’ll say yes, of course (you never say no to me).

I was late to this one but once the bandwagon finally passed by, I hopped right on. This song is new and a little different than their other stuff, at least what I’ve heard so far. I don’t even know how to categorize it… experimental metal? Whatever it is, the genre blending in it scratches a spot in my brain so perfectly. At 3.5 minutes in when you hit the breakdown? Yes.

I just danced to this song on repeat 4 times while I cleaned my kitchen.

Anyway, I’ll tell you all that and then I’ll say—okay okay lemme stop talking and just play it…

I was late to this one but once the bandwagon finally passed by, I hopped right on. This song is new and a little different than their other stuff, at least what I’ve heard so far. I don’t even know how to categorize it… experimental metal? Whatever it is, the genre blending in it scratches a spot in my brain so perfectly. At 3.5 minutes in when you hit the breakdown? Yes.

This song is different for them as it deals with personal, emotional issues for the band, rather than their created mythology. Of course, it is kind of telling fans to fuck off for trying to get beyond their anonymity, so not happy fuzzy feelings. Musically, it starts sweet and heats up -- how you make caramel. I like the pop/reggaeton/metal progression.

Their 2005 album Human After All was a commercial and critical failure, but god damn it I love it. It's the complete opposite of both Discovery and RAM, minimalistic and repetetive and leaning more heavily into their rock-influences rather than disco and house.
