❓ PLP Inquires II ❓

St. Agur is my total favorite.

Gorgonzola dolce when it's just right.

And the creamy ones that are like blues mixed with Brie, if they're pretty ripe.

Mmmmmm. Cheese.

I like blue cheese. Point Reyes is nice. Shropshire was way too strong for me.

I love cheese and am lucky enough to have excellent cheese mongers in my city. Or, maybe that’s a mixed blessing??

I don’t think I’ve ever had pimiento, in any form. But big yes to all olives! Blue cheese is a hit or Miss - I got obsessed with it as a teenager and kind of went overboard, so I still have a bit of a revulsion to the idea but it’s good in small doses.

You've never had red peppers? Or you've never had pimento cheese spread?

From a genetics perspective...a red bell pepper is not a pimento pepper. The pimento is smaller and sweeter with a more pointed base ( not bell). I didn't know this until a few years ago when I was experimenting making a pimento dip that just didn't taste as good as store bought. Duh....I used bell peppers...not pimentos

What's on your Anti-Bucket List? What's something you'll never do again?

Well, I almost never say never, as life is unpredictable, but I am fairly confident I will never use an epilator on myself again. You could rob a bank with one of those fuckers. A male teller may not recognize it, but just one touch to his arm and he will give me everything I ask for.

You could probably open the safe with it too.

Some men recognise an epilator. We know when we're up against it. Literally and metaphorically.

Oh. And welcome back!

It might just work. And sorry that you have also had the misfortune, the terror fades with time, ok and maybe a little therapy.

And thank you

What's the best thing that you've ever decided to do for yourself??

I think the single most significant thing that I've done for myself - even beyond leaving an abusive spouse - was to embrace the life-changing truth that only I am responsible for my own happiness. It freed me up to get brutally honest with myself about the changes that I needed to make, and I've experienced more personal growth since then than at any other time in my life.

That's well-written WH. I didn't have a physically abusive spouse, just one who was difficult to live with. But all of the rest of what you wrote resonates and I can relate. It's wonderful to see someone I'm acquainted with here on Lit finding their happiness.

Amen Wild_Honey_66. Simple, straight-forward, and immensely powerful.

I had a major life turning point in my mid-thirties. I was getting laid-off from a position I had as an operations manager and they gave me a really good severance package, which enabled me to take a year off and just...be. During that time I did a lot of self-examination and came out of it with a simple set of three rules, which changed the course of my life.

1. I was never again going to do something I didn't want to. Pure and simple, if I didn't want to, I just didn't (and don't). Now, fortunately, I am not a sociopath LOL, but I did realize that you're never going to make everyone happy with what you do, and if you're unhappy, it makes the people who love you unhappy, so just be happy and do what you want.

2. I was going to be honest and let the chips fall where they will.

3.
The very moment I thought "I don't like this job and don't want to do it" I would stand up, take off my employee badge, and walk away. I've done that three times since then - good jobs that turned bad. All three times it was kind of scary, but in the end I always ended up better off.

I watched a great documentary about Robert Mapplethorpe this weekend and it got me thinking.

Where is the line for you between art and pornography? There are beautiful erotic images and there are very graphic images that could swing both ways. Does the medium matter? The subject? Do you prefer one over the other?

I actually took a class on this in college - Philosophy of Aesthetics. Of course that was 20+ years ago & I don’t remember anything 😂

I think for me it’s intent. If the creator’s intent was solely to arouse, it’s porn. If it was to elicit any emotion, it’s art. That’s probably too black and white while also being impossible to tell, but that’s the line for me.

I think both have their place & enjoy some of both, depending on my mood.

I don't have any answers to your questions. My first reaction was, "... so if I fap to the Mona Lisa, does that make it porn...?" And I decided that was quite far enough down that line of thinking.

Great question! Context matters for sure. Art tends to suggest meaning and encourages the audience to imagine the rest of the story. If the only purpose you can draw from of the piece is providing pleasure to the audience, then it's likely porn.

Art...is subjective. If I take a canvas and throw shit at it, some will call it art. I call it a Physics of Shit and laugh at them. So my question...is porn subjective to? I don't think of movies as art...nor songs...I can see artistic examples of each....but they don't elicit emotion the same way to me

Edit....before people freak....I don't view art and artistic expression as the same thing
