Day 20: A song from a movie you liked as a child

Poor Unfortunate Souls - The Little Mermaid

This song spoke to my young theatrically and feminism. Plus ... mermaids. 🧜‍♀️ I can still sing every word. I just have the T&A to sell it now.

I might have cried if no one picked this song but you did so thank you 😂 Ursula is such a perfect villain 😍
There’s a lot of odd things about you (no judgement, physicists are weird by nature). But this might be the oddest 🤣
Are you implying that Mrs Doubtfire isn't a classic piece of comedy gold?? Of all the litsters that could have prompted fisticuffs at dawn, I never would've guessed you 😜

Day 20: A song from a movie you liked as a child
Having grown up about 5 miles from the beach in San Diego, this one hit me hard. Summer was AWESOME and the beach was a daily routine. No joke, I remember sitting there with my friends and watching all the beautiful girls walk by in their bikinis (many of whom I knew) and thinking how lucky I was, to not only be born in a free country, but also to live in San Diego, and have a CAR to go to the beach with my friends. To this day this is my favorite Beach Boys song and it played through the credits of one of the best movies of my youth.

All Summer Long- The Beach Boys
I love this thread...

Day 20: A song from a movie you liked as a child

The Goonies “R” Good Enough - Cyndi Lauper

Skip to 2:15 to hear the song, unless of course you’d like to see the Iron Sheik, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Captain Lou Albano

That was the most 80's Kid thing ever. Half of the WWF roster (and I love Roddy Piper), plus a wandering teppanyaki restaurant, and Steven Spielberg in a cameo as...God?

Day 20: A song from a movie you liked as a child
One of my favourite movies growing up. For a long time the flute solo made me tear up every time I heard because of the moment of choice in the film I associated it with.

Flight of Dragons - 1982
How can I have never seen this movie? How?! It mixes Flight of Dragons and Gordon Dickson's The Dragon and the George, which was one of my favorite novels of the late 70s, where a grad student from our earth's 20th Century gets stuck in the body of a dragon in a magic world. Holy cats!

I was very confused when I saw it for the first time because I’d recently read The Dragon and the George and it was similar enough to gaslight me into thinking I’d missed something crucial in the book 🤣

Apparently The Bangles play pirates in part 2 of the video! Just to make it even more 80s.
Man, I had such a crush on Mikey when I first saw this but as the years wore on, that crush definitely shifted to Josh Brolin…and to this day, I’m still crushing on him 😂

I am defining "as a child" for me as 9-years-old or less. This was a staple on Saturday and Sunday afternoons on the local syndicated station, back before cable, and before consolidation, when that was a thing. It was wild, steampunky, musical, with a story in the story where anything could happen. The great Dick Van Dyke at his sweet and goofy best. Benny Hill. The brilliant Robert Helpman's terrifying Child Catcher. Just surreal fun. I picked it up on Blu-ray, but I haven't had a chance to rewatch it again, but it has been a favorite forever.

This is Abney Park's slightly darker cover, because honestly, it is a pretty dark film for such a whimsical story. And I am a sucker for dark whimsy...

"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," Abney Park

I watched it again a few years ago with my kid, and I love the idea of the movie, but not the movie itself. Also spending a lot of time in Astoria and Cannon Beach, where they shot it, it was great to see the locations in the movies. Just don't go to the Goonies' House -- the owners don't like tourists. (Well, then you shouldn't have bought The Goondocks, Bob!)

Let’s celebrate women’s history month!
Bonus points for March decades week

+ 1 for a song by a WOC (woman of color). This includes prominent band members.
