Even when it’s warm so cold isn’t an issue (this is likely an unheard of concept in your local lakes ), swimming naked somehow feels so much more freeing and visceral.

It doesn’t make logical sense as a bikini is a very small amount of fabric….but it’s still so true!

Our sea rarely gets above 19°C, today was 16°C so not that bad - I enjoyed swimming long enough to get a bit sunburnt.

But yes!! Even a skimpy bikini feels restrictive, I just want to be able to move, without having to get any feedback from my skin, that there is some fabric irritating somewhere on my body.

It just feels so much more.. direct.. Liberating.. unhindered.. free? When swimming naked.

And then there is the temperature. I think because it is kinda chilly up here, it just gets so cold when you are wet! Even in the summer.

That is so true. And the baggy trunks that some of us guys wear soak up so much water and get so heavy and sticky too.

Ugh!! Cannot even imagine that.. or I can.. I just find it really uncomfortable!!

It is definitely not uncommon up here.

I've heard sayings to both directions here in Finland. I suspect it depends on the local situation.

I think the original proverb just have been closer to those two.. And that my granddad just made some form of shortening of them.
Also, being a small country of islands and lots of sailors, many of our proverbs are about that.

It is both a bit zen, very beautiful and poetic and also true. It got a certain hard to define quality.

ohhh... Swifts here are sometimes called Storm Chasers as they often arrive before and after rain. Swallows too, but not as much. I sat and watched Swifts one day and then they all went high and flew away. A minute later the rain arrived.

Ok, here's a more modern one since it's known that the downwind side of a trough in the jet stream is usually very windy:

"Red sky at night, sailor's delight, lee side trough, windsurfers get off."

ohhh... Swifts here are sometimes called Storm Chasers as they often arrive before and after rain. Swallows too, but not as much. I sat and watched Swifts one day and then they all went high and flew away. A minute later the rain arrived.

Birds are rather sensitive to the subtle.. or not so subtle changes in the air pressure, well.. more like it is the insects that they are chasing and preying on, who is the sensitive ones.

The birds are just easier to notice.. or so I learnt in school, back in the days

Uh!! I love to learn about the more modern sayings for sure! Windsurfers are so dependent on the weather, so it only makes sense that there are some new proverbs being made for that segment!!
