I think I've worked this out now (with the help of a calculator)

it doesn't seem to like nested expressions so

x = a + b * (c + d)

doesn't give the result I think it should

but doing

x = c+d
y = x * (a + b)

seems to work

On yesterday's Connections, that wasn't a right-angle symbol.

In my not-insubstantive experience, the arc between the two arms must be a square, not curved, bracket to indicate a right angle; that symbol was just "angle"
