"Don't worry Kya, once they get to know you better, I am sure that they will not be worried anymore."

He got out some meat and placed it down for her, "I don't know you that long and even I know you won't harm the children, since you know how to treat children. It just isn't the same people from the island, but a child is a child, no matter where you go."

He got himself some food and sat down to eat.

 

[Asa]

She snorted and nodded and ate. Once done she went back to the machine where she had seen Catalina and snorted at it and pawed at it.

Clint followed Kya up to the room and saw her pawing at the computer, "They will be busy now, you will see her in a few hours when we fly back. Let's go for a walk, you are way too tense for somebody who is in the relaxing atmosphere of a farm."

He turned away and walked downstairs.

 

[Asa]

She snorted and walked with him. Catalina was stressed she wanted to see her calm. However, she was curious about the children and their parents. She needed them to know everything is alright too. She missed smaller humans. One's with time to play and enjoy the world around them.

 

[TertiusHuman]

He walked slowly, showing Kya all the places which held significance to him, which held the strongest connection to his family. During the walk they encountered the two children and Clint enticed them to walk with them, they were reluctant at first, but Clint used child reasoning with them since their parents didn't want them to be alone, he and Kya will be there with them.

Clint did drop a text to Jenny so that they would not worry, just saying that they went for a walk with him. This left Kya and the children to romp around as he walked with them, smiling at the laughs coming from the two children and for a while it seemed that Kya's mind was distracted enough to not worry about Catalina.

 

[Asa]

She walked with him gathering perhaps more info about him than he realized. Head tilted slightly listening to what all he said. When the kids arrived she ran around with them playing but not for getting anything he talked about.

Pausing she sniffed a little. Looking around she was alert but not combative simply alert for a moment. She glanced at Clint for a moment as she looked around.

Clint noticed Kya's alert stance and looked in the general direction of her attention, he did not see anything but decided that it would be good to listen to Kya's instincts, she had the better deal when it came to that. He called the children to him and started to walk back towards the homestead, he smiled and listened to the two, answering their questions about the other Avengers.

 

[Asa]

Kya brought up the rear pausing only when she actually saw the snake and growled staying between it and the kids till one too many claw swipes got it to move away from everyone. She trotted over catching up to everyone looking at Clint with a snort and a nod.

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint only spotted the snake when Kya swiped at it, turning it aside. Which he found strange, usually a snake would try to defend itself, he wondered if Kya didn't have some latent telepathic abilities as well. He shared the nod with Kya and soon they were back at the house.

"I'm going to pack, we're leaving soon. Say goodbye to Kya and don't play too much, don't want your parents to worry."

He walked into the house and started to pack his clothes into his bag and went downstairs to thank Jenny and then went outside to talk to Jesse. It was a few minutes before he called for Kya, the children came with her and he said farewell to them as well. A few minutes later, the plane was rising up, the family on the ground waving up at them, then they sped off, back towards the Avengers Head Quarters

 

[Asa]

Outside the kids got their dad to scratch Kya's belly as she just lay there telling her their mom might take a little more convincing and time.

Once on the plane, she seemed happy that at least one of the other adult humans was starting to warm up to her since she liked the farm. Once back at the Avengers headquarters leaped off the plane and went hunting only to be stopped by Fury.

Barton, you have a party to get ready for and you our fine feline have a council to meet.

Kya looked at Clint and then back to Fury with a snort of unamused agreement.

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint paused and looked at Fury, "What do you mean get ready? I am out of uniform, wearing normal clothing."

Fury gave him a flat stare, "Even I know that you don't go to a party wearing "that", no stop arguing and go. Come along Kya."

Clint looked after the two and then sighed, "Fine."

He headed for his room to get showered and dressed.

 

[Asa]

Nat walked into the meeting as support for Catalina and as an unspoken threat if they did not agree with Fury. Strange was in the meeting as well and with his input meeting went fairly quickly Catalina and Kya would stay with Fury and his group with the caveat that they could join the avengers as well if all were in agreement.

After the meeting was over Nat escorted her to the party with Kya where Pepper did the formal entrance introduction for those present who knew her grandfather as well as SHIELD agents and officers who had not met her yet among others such as Xavier.

Wanda stood next to Clint suspecting his reaction to seeing her walk in. Tony smiled at her trying to help calm her nerves even a little as he could see her try to stop dead in her tracks at the crowd in the room. Wanda just watched Clint's mind and smiled as well.

Kya looked around and seemed to go almost on alert looking around and calming down only when she saw Clint, Banner, Fury, Rhodey, and Stark. Also when Strange moved to scratch her ear.

Clint wondered why Wanda stood near him with that mysterious smile on her face, she always seemed to know more about his thoughts and feelings than he himself felt. He narrowed his eyes, "Get out of my head Wanda."

Her smile broadened, "Oh you don't mean that Clint, who else is going to let you down so easily when you are being stubborn?"

He was about to retort when the group with Catalina entered, she paused and Clint got a very good look at her. The dress showed off just enough and the makeup and hairstyle just accentuated her beauty.

"Perhaps you should go over and say hello," Wanda whispered in his ear before moving away to melt into the crowd. Clint didn't respond for a few moments and then like a spell that had been broken, he found that he could move again. Taking a breath he walked over and scratched Kya's ears before giving Catalina a smile, "I think all that fussing and stress was well-worth it, you look stunning."

 

[Asa]

Catalina smiled a little to him as Nat smirked.

I told you he would be just as dressed up.

Nat nudged Clint as Kya nudge his had at the scratch

Offer to escort her the party...

Wanda was in another part of the room with Tony and Rhodey

Told you so.

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint gave Nat a look, "She's already at the party, why should I offer to escort . . . "

He realized what she had meant and turned back to Catalina, "Can I offer to escort you?"

He held out his arm for her

 

[Asa]

Catalina smiled again at him and nodding she moved her hand to mimic what Nat and Pepper were showing her as she looked at him.

Very handsome yes let's walk around thank you.

Much of this formality was foreign to her to an extent but Clint was back and so was Kya and now she felt safe. Kya walked in front of them nodding accepting scratches and led the way. Catalina paused every time someone wanted to meet her and tell her about how they knew her grandfather till they were close to the bar and Steve and Bucky talking briefly.

Kya is impressively calm for a wild animal in a large crowd. How did you pull that off, Barton?

Steve spoke up after the introductions. Bucky was busy scratching the feline behind the ear and telling Catalina his memories of her grandfather.

 

[TertiusHuman]

"Kya is not some feral creature Steve. She is highly intelligent and self-aware, just ask any of the mind readers here. I just had a talk with her, as I would have with any person. She understood and has decided that we do not want to hurt Catalina."

He wasn't actually focusing on the discussion though, he found that he was very much distracted by Catalina, he had known that she was attractive and the make-up and new hairstyle didn't do much to alter that. He listened to her talk and watched her movements.. He knew that it wasn't necessary for her to keep her arm hooked in with his own, but he wasn't going to complain about it at all.

 

[Asa]

You will need to forgive Steve Catalina... And you too Kya.

Bucky spoke up.

He can't help the stupid sometimes. Kya he is a good guy and is one of the many people here who will be more than happy to be your backup to keep Catalina safe... Right, Steve?

With that Catalina turned to Steve.

Grandfather had spoken of you a few times over the years. He often wondered what effects the serum would have over the years. He found you to be a very honorable person.

Turning to Clint.

Perhaps we should walk around more. Seems others are attempting to get our attention.

"Yes, we can do that."

Only after he had answered, did he realize that he sounded more like a star-struck fan or an infatuated lovestruck fool. He decided that he will just ignore the little smirks that the ladies gave them and moved away with Catalina.

"So, apart from too many people around you, how was your experience of the concrete jungle?"

 

[Asa]

How do you all stand all the noise and not being able to hear animals or really see the stars at night?

Mentioning it seemed to cause her to tense a little and hold his arm a little tighter as she looked at him biting her lip.

Then all the yelling and people who got hurt. They would not let Maria help and then Pepper said they would not understand my help.

She had stopped walking staring into his eyes as she talked. Kya growled a little and headbutted her trying to snap her out of something she felt was coming with the changes in her ward.

 

[TertiusHuman]

"You find places that give you peace, apart from the farm, I have a few places that do that for me. It will not give you total peace and quiet, but you can see the sky. I can show you a few places and you can always come to the farm every now and then if you want to."

He ran his hand soothingly over her arm, "Remember that the rules are different here, when something happens the authorities are supposed to act on it. So for accidents, there are many procedures to help the people involved and keep the people around the accident safe. When anything happens there will be a lot of noise, in the wild everything goes silent, but out here it doesn't. Humans make noise to attract the attention of others to come and help them. Living in large groups has made us immune to the amount of noise we have created."

He held her hand, "Unless you are in a costume or uniform people will not understand that you are trying to help, uniforms show that you are part of the authorities and the costume just shows that you are not normal and could help. Don't worry about it too much, you will get used to it, that is the one good thing about humans, we can be really resilient."

 

[Asa]

She nodded and smiled.

It will take time but at least you and Kya are here now. So what do we do at these parties that Tony enjoys having?

Kya content she was calm once more wandered a little ways away to a sofa and laid down ears still listening but content to relax now near an old soldier who scratched her ear.

Tony and Rhodey watching the two of them together both produced money each handing Wanda a 20 as she smiled taking the money.

Not how I saw her arrival going...

Tony muttered.

Well, she simply knows she is comfortable and feels safe around him and he knows how he feels he is just well...being Clint.

Wanda shrugged and wandered off to mingle more with a parting statement over her shoulder.

Don't even think about it Tony.

 

[TertiusHuman]

He grimaced, "At his parties, you look at the models, smile politely at the political and military types, and get away as soon as possible. Or at least, that is what I do. There's more to it than that, but it is basically a way to let them know that we are still friendly and don't wish to take over the world."

He smiled and patted her hand, "Let's go make nice, the faster we get it over, the faster you will be allowed to get away from all these suits. Although the food does look quite nice."

 

[Asa]

So many of these people knew or knew of Grandfather. Either worked with him or studied his research or they understand why he left. It's all a little intense.

She rested her hand on his.

The food does look good perhaps we should get a little of the food?

She was content to walk around with him all night safe and relaxed. She did not understand why but she did not question it. Clint was there with her Kya was calm and happy and she was learning more about her grandfather. This one elderly soldier hobbled over on a walker and smiled at her.

Ebenezer and I once a week would go have a drink and talk about how different things he was working on could benefit everyone better everywhere if they were released to the world on a civilian level instead of a military or government level. I would be honored if you would have a drink with me in memory of that. That is if your young man there won't think I am trying to steal you away.

Clint looked at the old man, he didn't appear to be a threat, "Well that depends on her and her friend, I am just the male eye candy for the evening, here to make the other men jealous and to make sure they behave."

He gave a tight little grin, "You know how it is when a beautiful woman enters a room, men forget all their manners and start to think about buying her a drink." His grin turned into a pleasant laugh.
