[Asa]

She sniffed at Jesse and nudged his hand when he was close. Trying to show the humans it was okay. She looked to Clint with a nod and a snort flopping down by the house she began to eat. She almost seemed sad she had never been away from Catalina before dealing with the world outside the island and was not sure she liked it much.

 

[TertiusHuman]

He sat down with her and ran a slow hand over Kya's head and neck, "I can only think that you are missing Catalina, you have most likely not left her side for long periods of time. But trust me, out here is much better than the city."

 

[Asa]

She nodded at missing Catalina and looked him in the eyes for a moment curious expression before sniffing the air and actually liking the calmer reality of the place.

 

[TertiusHuman]

"The problem is that the Avengers are internationally known, so Catalina will not only have to contend with a lot of people and sounds around her, but also with curious people who would want to know about the new face appearing with known members of the Avengers. You are a large feline, so just think if you had appeared with her as well. People and reporters would have overwhelmed you."

He scratched her ears, "Soon you will have to face that, but I am sure that you will be protected at first, just to keep you at ease and to make sure nobody tries anything funny."

 

[Asa]

She tensed some guessing how stressed and panicked her ward would be. Standing she pawed at the ground then the air trying to communicate how or what Cat might do in a panic the headbutted him as if to say "and you are not there to calm her human!" Food forgotten she began pacing snorting and snarling a little clearly on edge and worried.

 

[TertiusHuman]

"Oh come on, use that large brain of yours. She is totally fine, she's got half the squad with her, there are a lot of people around her to keep her calm and safe and if we were needed, they would have put out the call already."

He poked her flank, "Stop being a worrywart, settle down and finish your meal. Catalina is fine, we can even call them once you are done and you can see that she is doing fine."

 

[Asa]

She swatted at him with a snort but returned to eating. She was hating this outside world they were now stuck in more and more. The other humans had better protect her ward in her forced absence. Growling as she ate it was good and he had better call and check on their Catalina.

 

[TertiusHuman]

He chuckled and leaned against the wall at his back, "You're worse than any house cat I have ever come across."

He knew that teasing her was a very fine line, he had to be careful to not take it too far, but also not let her off easily. He patted her head and when she finished eating, he got up, and moving into the house to get changed. He knew that Jesse would have sorted the meat and would only chase him away if he went to offer assistance, so it was better to get along with other things.

 

[Asa]

Standing she followed him into the house looking around more searching catching scents long gone and new like the food that had been cooked and cleaning. Finally flopping down near him wherever he was to rest.

 

[TertiusHuman]

He was sitting in the study when Kya plopped down, "Tired? The wound recovery does that."

He clicked an icon on the computer screen and a screen came up, he selected Natasha's icon and ringing came through the speakers, she picked up on the third ring, her face appearing on the screen.

"Clint? Anything wrong?"

He shook his head, "No, in fact everything is peachy. How's things going that side?"

She looked away and then back at the camera, "Well, much better than expected."

Clint nodded, "Can I talk to her for a moment?"

Nat's smile was sly, "Sure."

Nat's face disappeared and Clint could hear her talk in the background and then Catalina's face popped up on the screen, "Hello?"

"Hey there Catalina, could you please tell your overprotective cat that you are not freaking out and doing OK?"

 

[Asa]

Kya...

Kya leaped up and tried to get between him and the image of Catalina.

It's okay... Scary but... Okay.

It was a little more clear from Lina that something had happened but Nat was poker-faced as ever when she answered. Kya snorted not believing her that it was okay not that Lina's voice backed up her answer either. Kya looked at Clint and then back to Catalina.

I can't sense your mind like this Kya it's strange but you do not seem relaxed. What is wrong?

Kya realized that she would not know about the bear fight and dinner and seemed calmer that her ward could not sense her mind this way.

Clint... What's wrong?

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint shrugged

"Normal human here, I can't tell you what she's thinking."

He looked at Kya and then at the screen, "But she got all worked up when I mentioned that it is better for her to get used to the bustle of the city after you Catalina. That way she will remain calm when you are calm and know what to expect."

He studied Catalina's features for a moment, "Should we come back? Nat is hiding something and you do not look like a woman who had just bought shoes."

 

[Asa]

Wanda grabbed the phone and was talking fairly fast about a wreck and sirens and cops making them stay in the store. Getting faster as the explanation went till Pepper for the phone.

Clint while we were out there was a sizable wreck at the corner outside of the store lots more noise than would have been preferred for her first real venture into the city. Cops and fire and all the sirens didn't help and cops shoving everyone back into the stores really didn't help either so yeah Catalina is a little shaken up on edge and now she seems to think something is wrong there too since she can't sense Kya's mind.

Kya looks at Clint with a growl at the situation they just explained and her muscles tense some. Looking back to Pepper she snorts.

Kya she is safe we are finally back at the tower and Tony ordered takeout from a really nice restaurant and we are going to watch a movie. Dr. Banner has also gotten her some medicine to help her calm down more.

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint gave Kya a light slap behind the head, "Stop that. Nothing happened to Catalina."

Kya gave him a snarl and he glared at her, "I will put you to sleep, don't think that I won't. You are overreacting. Not everything can be solved by killing it, Catalina is fine, she is not hurt, just a bit shook up. She's a big girl and can handle this."

The two of them glared at each other and then Pepper's voice chimed in, "She's not really a girl anymore Clint."

Kya snorted and Clint could swear he saw a smug look on her face, he shook his head, "It's an expression, I know that she's grown up, but this cat seems to forget that fact."

Kya gave him another look and Wanda laughed, "Even I can see that she thinks you are dense sometimes."

"Oh Catalina, we went hunting," Clint said while looking at Kya, the screen focused on Catalina's face and if a cat could look frantic using facial expressions, Kya was the prime example.

"That is good, how did it go?"

Clint looked at Catalina, "We were successful, Kya got a good kill. We have a lot of meat, which I am going to share with our neighbors."

"Oh? What animal was it?"

Clint smirked slightly as Kya seemed to grow even more frantic, "A deer, I would offer to bring some with me, but the group doesn't do well with raw meat preparation. Maybe next time you can come with us to the farm and go hunting with her."

He had to prevent himself from laughing out loud at Kya's dirty look, he knew that she realized that he had just put one over on her, but at least it had taken her mind off of things.

 

[Asa]

You two will be back tomorrow... Right?

Catalina smiled a little hoping.

They want me to do to another place tomorrow for more people to poke at and annoy me like some science experiment or something.

She sighed not having been entirely amused with the clothing shop people measuring and moving her about.

We went to a clothing store today to get you more environment-friendly clothes and a stunning dress for the party. Tomorrow we are just going to get our hair done and spa day before the party.

Wanda chimed in.

And if they are not back in time Nat and Bruce have already agreed that Hulk will bring them back in time.

Catalina was puzzled and confused by all the fuss but clearly glad to see Clint and Kya as she smiled.

 

[TertiusHuman]

"It is a new experience, a new life. Embrace it and you will find that it becomes tolerable."

He nodded at Catalina's question, "There is no need to worry or threaten me. We will be back and Kya can finally relax. I am NOT bringing her out here again, she is driving me insane, acting like she has a thorn in her paw. I checked, there's no thorn."

 

[Asa]

Kya be nice to Clint.

She smiled to them. Maybe it was just a screen but it was nice feeling close to them again.

Wanda seems to think you will like the dress we found for the party.

Kya grinned and moved back to let them talk nudging Clint's hand

 

[TertiusHuman]

Why would they think that he would like the dress? Not like he is going to wear it.

"I am sure that between Pepper, Nat, Wanda, and yourself, you would have gotten a great dress. Just remember if you set the bar, that is what will be expected in future social gatherings."

He gave her a grin, "That is why Clint Barton is always scruffy, no high hopes for him."

"Don't listen to him Lina, Clint looks good in a suit, I will get him to wear one for you and shave as well," Natasha chimed in.

"Traitor." Clint remarked and they both laughed.

 

[Asa]

She did not understand the fuss but laughed with them a little.

Okay movie time...

Tony's voice rang out.

Kya say good night to everyone Barton say good night to your girlfriend be back no later than noon. Now we are all gonna kick back relax and watch Clue.

Wanda erupted into giggling, Nat just smirked, and Pepper could be heard calling him down...Tony... While Catalina looked confused.

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint shook his head, "Good night everyone, enjoy the R & R."

He waited for everybody to say their goodbyes and then cut the feed, switching off the computer.

"There you go, she's fine, a bit stressed, but unhurt."

He got up, "If I were you, I'd not think about the bear when we get back, somebody might forget that it is a private thought and blurt it out."

A quick inspection proved that the damage was basically impossible to see, "I heard the pickup drive away, so Jesse went home. I am going to lock up and leave the back door open for you to go out. The cold room has a normal pull handle if you want a midnight snack."

He made his way through the house, locked up, and then took the plate from the oven and sat down to eat.

 

[Asa]

Kya simply laid down and dropped into a deep sleep for now. She doubted that Lina would know what a bear was as she had never seen any on the island and didn't remember Ebenezer ever talking about anything like that but the other could know being from this outside world. Well into the night she did go to find more food and was outside near the jet when sunrise began. She heard the children trying to sneak up on her and just laid there playing along only to jump up at the last moment licking both of them before running around. Once Clint was there too the questions began to fly about if she really fought a bear and and how long did it take her and when would she be back.

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint just laughed and told them that Kya fought a bear and that it did not take long at all. He wasn't sure when she'd be back, but most likely she would come back with him. He listened to them chattering as he drank his coffee, watching the big cat play with the children. It was strange to think that Kya could have ripped that bear apart if she was really angry and yet, here she was playing with children, as gentle as a lamb.

He went back inside, fixed himself leftover food, and ate outside on the deck, drinking another coffee. The farm was much more his getaway from the past and the pressures of the present than anything else. He sat and watched the children and Kya play around with the seemingly endless energy of youth.

 

[Asa]

Kya paused catching the scent of fear if even just slight and looked over as the kids ran to their mom and dadpulling them over to Kya. Kya sat down head tilted waiting to see what would happen.

 

[TertiusHuman]

Clint noticed that Jesse and Jenny still seemed cautious of the big cat and he could not really blame them. He was sure that Jesse had seen the damage Kya had done and to see an animal with that destructive potential play with your small children, would have made anybody pause.

Clint walked over to the family, they talked a bit and Clint told Jesse to take the rest of the meat since they will be leaving around noon, there was a meeting that they had to attend. Jesse brought up a few points, which they discussed and they left for home, Clint walked over to Kya and gave her a scratch behind the ears.

"Come along, time to eat some breakfast."

 

[Asa]

Kya flopped down watching them with a visible look of sadness. Realizing possibly now a part of the problem. She looked to Clint with a sighed snort and stood up following but looked back several times.
