Day 11: A scary movie based on a true crime

2007's The Girl Next Door (not to be confused with all of the other films by that name) is probably the most disturbing movie I have seen. Based on the novel of the same name, it is the story of a girl and her sister who are taken in after their parents' death by their aunt, who uses her sons and neighbor boys -- children-- to sexually abuse and torture them. It is unflinching horror, and a look into the depravity of human beings. I cannot suggest it. Fuck this movie.

And compared to the crime it was based on, the torture and murder of Sylvia Likens, it's a goddammed Disney movie.

The Girl Next Door

I've never seen this movie, but I know about this true crime horror. The death penalty would have been a kind punishment. Instead none of them had to serve as much time as they deserved. Gertrude Baniszewski was released on parole and got to live the last five years of her miserable life outside of prison. She died of lung cancer at 61. I hope it was a painful death.

A Nightmare On Elm Street

Based on might be a reach as it was inspired by a boy who died in his sleep after having night terrors. I was a total fan girl of Freddy as a child. I was going to post An American Crime but that is the same story of UnquietDreams The Girl Next Door and I also 100% DO NOT recommend watching.

It is an absolutely beautiful mess. And this is the best superhero landing ever performed.

So true, but I just love the aesthetics so that makes up for it.

I mean those boots! That trench coat!

Beautiful mess is a great way to describe it. Kate Beckinsale is 😻, but I remember the first time I tried to watch it, I got annoyed enough that I had to turn it off after only a few minutes when someone fired a gun immediately after it was immersed in water. I gave it another shot years later and was able to suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy it though.

Researching this (because I wasn't going to watch it again as a refresher), I found this line from the novel. This is an entire chapter:

β€œI’m not going to tell you about this. I refuse to. There are things you know you’ll die before telling, things you know you should have died before ever having seen. I watched and saw.”

Day 12: A movie with a vampire

The Fearless Vampire Killers (aka Dance Of The Vampires)
This flashed in my mind and i had to try and find out what it was called (it had a different title in the UK - a bit like Top/Boss Cat). Anyway, i jut remember laughing when watching it and it may have ruined me for any other vampire offering.

Day 12: A movie with a vampire

Blade is probably my favorite vampire movie but it was taken. Twice. So... I'm going to go another route... Stupidest vampire movie with a cast hot enough to make me not care.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)

Favorite scene because Michael Sheen:

Damn, OC. I thought I was the only one who knew about this. Now I need another movie 😳🀭

I’m going to go with the second Marvel movie ever made: Blade
Of course I would pick Blade, the younger me thought he was so cool with his sword fights. And the opening sequence in the first movie in the vampire club will always stay with me

And here I was thinking I was gonna come in here and post it!

AD, I’m with you on that club scene except maybe that it’s stayed with me in the worst way 🀣
