15 killed in shooting at Uvalde elementary school, active shooter killed, officials say

Lyin' Teddy Cruz said while speaking to fellow Tryumplitards after the massacre, "Good guy with a gun won."

45 straight lied to you morons. Again..
“We all know they want total gun confiscation, know that this would be a first step,” Trump told the crowd in an auditorium about
300 miles from the site of the mass shooting in Uvalde, Tex. “Once they get the first step, they’ll take the second step, the third,
the fourth, and then you’ll have a whole different look at the Second Amendment.”
He continued to lie...
“As the age-old saying goes, the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” Trump said, quoting NRA chief
executive Wayne LaPierre’s remark almost a decade ago in the aftermath of the mass school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

NRA’s Grand Ole Night of Freedom Concert has been canceled. Country singer Jacob Bryant — the last man standing after six of the seven performers slated to perform pulled out of the show following the Uvalde school shooting — tweeted on Friday that “The show was canceled yesterday.”
Still, the NRA’s Convention carried on with speakers like the ignominious Texas senator Ted Cruz and twice-impeached former president Donald Trump. “Unlike some,” Trump said during his remarks, “I didn’t disappoint you by not showing up.”

Two of the murdered childrens' families have announced that they will hold open casket funeral services for their children, despite the fact the bodies of the children are missing large portions of their head and were so badly damaged that they could only be identified via DNA test.

The parents are encouraging photographs be taken so that Americans can see the product of their insipid "gun culture".

I find that very hard to believe. And even if true its a horrible idea they would absolutely regret.

Ted Cruz Heckled in Texas Restaurant After NRA Convention

Senator Ted Cruz was confronted and heckled by an activist about the Uvalde school shooting on Friday following his
speech at a National Rifle Association (NRA) event in Houston, Texas.

A group called Indivisible Houston posted a video of one of its board members, Benjamin Hernandez, confronting Cruz in a
restaurant about his stance on gun control measures in the wake of the shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead.

Cruz, a Texas Republican, had spoken earlier on Friday at the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) Leadership Forum
where he argued that "What stops armed bad guys is armed good guys."

In a two-minute video shared on Twitter, Hernandez can first be seen posing for a photo with Cruz at Uptown Sushi, a Houston
restaurant, before he begins asking him about gun laws, though the initial part of the audio is not entirely clear.

Cruz appeared to try to reassure Hernandez and explained his position. Hernandez asked him
"What about background checks? What about background checks?"

"Is that so hard?" he said as Cruz suggested Hernandez was not interested in listening to him.

The two men engaged in a back and forth as Hernandez became more animated and security personnel approached him. Hernandez
repeatedly asked Cruz "Why does this keep happening?" and the security personnel attempted to remove him from the restaurant.

All gun sales by licensed dealers are subject to federal background checks. Private party sales are not. Personally I’m fine with Congress closing that “loophole” and they might get enough Republicans to actually pass it.

It’s a symbolic gesture. California requires it. I bought a gun from a friend and we went to a dealer to do the transaction. Took about 45 minutes to conduct the background check and do all the stuff CA require. Written test, utility bills to prove my address matches my drivers license, dozens of questions, etc. Then they put the gun in their safe as required by law, and 10 days later I was allowed to pick it up.

My friend and I did it because we are aware of the law (many are not) and because we didn’t want to put ourselves in legal jeopardy. Most private party transfers are among family members, close friends, and collectors. Because of the cost and hassle factor, few bother with it. The type of people who engage in violent behavior don’t bother either.

I’m ok if Congress passes a law requiring background checks for private party sales. But nobody should expect it to have a noticeable impact on mass shootings.

Ignorance of the law and breaking the law are why we have these massacres. But hey, sorry for the fucking inconvenience. FFS.

What would, then?

Not anything having to do with "mental health."
I’ve posted higher impact ideas already, but to summarize the two highest impact immediate actions to address school shootings:

1. Heightened security, particularly on school campuses. We do a pretty good job of securing our court houses, federal buildings, and airports. Campus security varies widely across the country.

2. Early warning detection. Red flag laws are useful and can be significantly enhanced by advanced analytics. I’ve worked in the field of analytics and data science for decades. The advancements over the past 8 years or so are stunning. One thing most of these adolescent killers have in common is a high propensity to leave digital warning signs.

We do have a mental health crises in this country and it seems that vulnerable youth are affected in large numbers. I don’t know why. Someone suggested that economic disparity between generations might be a factor. Could be. Others point to social media. Could be. I’ve hypothesized isolation from school closures might exacerbate the problem. Hope I’m wrong. Mental health is a big problem that contributes to violent crime, homelessness and other societal problems. It needs to be addressed but it won’t be solved this year. The two things I suggest can be done quickly and at scale.

Let the record show that you are the one who can't say firearm. He had a gun, and was killed by a gun.
He murdered several children with that gun. Your ridiculous hypothetical has already been laughed at yet you remain.

After he killed 19 people with one.

19/1 ratio...should we break out percentages again?
