2008 News & Views: Discussion and Announcements for the Survivorphile

Oh thanks for the info. Yeah I saw your story on the other site and voted and read it. It's a little disturbing but well written.

I'm not sure how much I can tone it down and still convey the roiling RAGE and irrational response of the kidnapper. He's supposed to be way over the top and the obsessed wife needs the harshness of the lesson to lead to the ultimate conclusion in chapter 2.

You guys gonna play bingo with me in the AH when they get started?

Pen names - One of the funniest I found here is RumpledForeskin - cracks me up!

Two great candidates I just heard on PUBLIC TV, both out of the mouths of 60-somthin moms:
SlipperyWhenWet

NoParkingInRear Well, I added the 'in rear' part. ;-D

Any other legendary names?

Can't think of any pen names at the moment. I'm online because my lovely son is awake at 1:49am and I can't get him back to sleep. I'm not thinking of anything right now other then the fact that I hate that my husband gets to go on business trips....

Now that I am thinking there are alot of names with cats and kittens in it - do we have an obsession with pussies?

Almost everybody who writes here uses pen names. A few might use their real names, but I'm not sure of that.

Pen name

Bostonfictionwriter is my real last name. My first name is Freddie.

My pen name is Bic. Sometimes, I go by Parker or Papermate.

There's no truth to the rumor that my pen name is or every was MontBlanc. That's just too gay for me, not that there's anything wrong with being gay. I'm just not.

....
I don't have a pen name but since I never plan on being published I don't need one. I like my first name and since I'm an only child I can act like a princess sometimes.
Erin

Is PrincessErin your given/birth name? Your stories ARE published on LIT, even if not on paper. If you aren't using your legal name, you do have a pen name. Don't you? Or am I really  ?

Erin is a good name

BFW - didn't you publish some stories under the name Frederick Goldberry? Wouldn't that ben a pen name?

Oh and at the same time. Did you see the BINGO game in the Author's Hangout? It's another competition where quantity wins over quality. I plan to participate to give me some ideas.

My lovely child finally fell asleep at 2:45am but while waiting for him to go to sleep I wrote 2 pages of a story. I reread it this morning and strangely enough it's pretty good. Maybe I need to start writing at two in the morning.

Erin

Nah, I never published anything under Frederick Goldberry. I published a couple E books under Frederick Goldsberry, though (lol).

That's my real name. It doesn't bother me to use my real name. I'm hoping someone will stalk me (lol), preferrably a female, a good looking female.

I thought about using a pen name for my E books, but then, as I've always written, I want credit for everything that I write, good, bad or indifferent.

Yeah, Erin is a good name. My girlfriend's daughter is named Erin.

When I first started writing erotica, I was thinking about getting into erotic romance, so I wanted a suitable pen name. (I also write sci fi/fantasy novels for teenagers under my real name, so I definitely didn't want to use my real name for erotica.) I came up with Karenna as a first name, and a friend of mine suggested "Cockroft" as a last name. I thought that was a tad bit obvious, so I changed it to "Colcroft". So if I ever publish an erotic novel, it'll be as Karenna Colcroft.

Right now it's a race to see which type of novel will be published first, my teen stuff or my erotica.

Let's hope

May you become a best seller in both genres.

I have been working on a mainstream novel. I started it during NaNoWriMo last year. I hope to finish the first draft this year yet... although, I've been more focused on my poetry and the freelance writing that I do.

Erin, teens do seem to be reading more lately, and my books have the advantage of being relatively short (about 35,000-38,000 words), so they appeal to the more reluctant readers. The problem is, 30 of them (29 that I've finished and the final one, which I'll be starting in a couple weeks) are part of a single series, so I may run into difficulties in getting them all published.

I've never done NaNo, but a few years back a children's writers forum I belonged to had a similar, informal event running concurrently with NaNo; the difference was, you could work on a book that you'd already started. During the first two weeks of November of that year, I wrote 200 pages to finish a 265-page novel; then I wrote the first book in the series I mentioned above.

I plan to participate in NaNoWiMo this year and already have a storyline thought out. It probably won't have alot of sex in it.
I learnt about that contest through this site and I think it's very intriguing.

Erin

Now hubbi can help you plan AND practice some story ideas! :D

I'm so prideful, I won't admit I don't know what NaNo [NaNooNaNoo?] is so don't tell me. But my twin brother is dieing to know. Tell him.
