2010 Team Poetry Contest

Roll Call #2

Tristesse, UnderYourSpell, ChipButty, DrewBerryLess, BronzeAge, EPMD607, Charley H, Remec, EroticOrogeny, and I'm still not sure if Tzara has said he's in or not, but I'm assuming he is, brings us to 10 participants. If we can get two more players, we'll have three ideal teams. There's still the matter of having other folks to lead each team, aside from EPMD607. Der Kapitän will be in charge of contacting the players they'd like on their team, and then on the day of the event assigning tasks to their team members. If that's not favorable, I guess I could assign the teams for what I think is fairest. Right now we need at least two more participants.

DrewBerry, you're welcome to play. The event will be timed and each participant should know a little something about the forms and meter, that jazz.

I get to choose my batting order? I want Champagne1982 as my lead-off hitter, AnnieSwir batting cleanup.

mmmmm depending on what I get to clean up, I am in

my issue is time..... you think we could have two days instead of one, with the promise of still doing it on the fly? I will at least need an overnight to get my time in this house alone.

and I am not being presumptuous, I will stand on the line and wait to get picked :)

If I am too late, I will also volunteer to judge or whatever.

He's not allowed to choose you yet, but you're very welcome in our contest. You want the contest to be twenty-four or forty-eight hours? That's possible to, and we wouldn't have to worry about the American and English time difference. If that's the case I'll make it tougher and probably two poems per team.

I think we have ~11, anyone else interested, Champagne1982? We'll do three teams, if no one wants to be the point person for their team I'll have to choose you, because it's pretty important to have someone to organize each team. Anyone, besides EPMD607, against me choosing the teams? What days would work best, like a weekend? With an extended period of time it shouldn't be much of an issue with picking specific times, just specific dates. More than a sprint contest, less than a marathon.

as it stands, sundays, mondays, tuesdays and wednesdays are pretty much ok for me.

This is just to let you all know that time is at a premium for me. I'm in the middle of a business program that means I'm tied up in learning how to make software jump through hoops for me. It's all math so I'm feeling not so very left-brained. <sigh>

I can't play. I fear all you'd get would be awful so, I must decline darlings.

I like the idea of doing it over 2 days.
If I'm at work I'll know about PMs pretty quickly,
at home, maybe.

two days, yes, but why two poems? Perhaps I am confused. Would each team member have to write two?

Weekends are not good for me. Everyone home and seriously, they cannot leave me be. I am a boy magnet.

oooh wait I think I get it. You have to write the poem WITH the team. Hmm. I would be afraid to let people down. Besides, eek, what if someone can't spin off of me? I am kind of um, challenged.

Where is Liar? I know I can write with him, but when we did partner poems we had more time.

I am whining. Can you hear me? Isn't it pathetic.

Anna, darling, you crack me up. So many comments I can twist and gyrate....

Anna, I think most of us are feeling more or less the same - that kind of 'oh shit' feeling ... I know I am. But that's just us being writers :D We need to take a deep breath and remember it's meant to be f.u.n

Next weekend is the 27th and 28th, then there's wed the 3rd and thursday the 4th, the weekend after that is mar 6th and 7th. We'll try for one of these sets of days? You'll have about forty-eight hours to complete 32 lines of verse per team, 16 per poem per team, 4 per person per poem(you'll write 8 lines for the contest.)

If this is agreeable for enough people, one set of these days, I'll put together the teams, whether it's two or three teams. I'm telling you, this should be a challenge, wacky and fun. Over the forty-eight hours you'll write two stanzas, you could be first or last in the line, and if you're last you won't have anyone working directly off you. The point person will tell their members via PM the little direction that the challenge will involve, ie 'you go first, you go second, let's concentrate on this idea as a whole...'

I'm thinking it's going to be pretty self-explanatory and with a little bit of thinking the team should be able to work simultaneous if need be. The idea is to make two coherent poems, and I think there's enough time to send the completed poems back to each player so you can make suggestions on each others work to make the work flow better.

I am on your side of the world, as well. :)

Edit to add - you know, as I told Chipbutty, um ... GST time. ;)

lol are you an hour ahead of us? well sometimes you are sometimes you're not lol

I thought Tristesse and DrewBerryLess were English too, maybe not.

Tess as far as I know is English born now living in Canada, Drew I have no idea
Captain my captain where are you? If I have a choice I wanna be under Charley lol
haven't checked all the dates but I think I am out next saturday night at a medieval banquet and the mead may make me fragile the day after!

When in despair, repeat the Bronzeage mantra, "It all pays the same."

I would appreciate it very much if someone could post the actual form of the contest.

Nah, I can't post too many details of the contest because part of the challenge is creativity on the fly. If I give you the precise form, content, theme you could do the whole contest by yourself and just mail in your part. Forty-eight hours is a long time though, still I think it'll put a little bit of pressure on each team time wise. This contest is going to be along the lines of the gunfight challenges that have taken place in Poets Hangout, one of them ended last week with my death. Check that one out if you want to get a better idea of what we're up to.

Possible teams for Team Contest

Team 1:

CharleyH(Fabulous Captain)
Tristesse,
UnderYourSpell
BronzeAge
Remec

Team2:

EPMD607(Plain-old Captain)
AnnaSwirls
ChipButty
EroticOrogeny
Tzara
DrewBerryLess

Alright, if you're going to drop out or drop in we're still trying to make these teams. I'm not even sure Tzara said he's even going to play, AnnaSwirls is on the fence because of time, DrewBerryLess I don't know who that is really. Five on Five or Four on Four is probably how it's going to look. If we get 9 or 11 people that want to play for sure I'll just ask someone to be a judge.

I think I know each of your styles because I've read your poems, DrewBerryLess is the only exception, but that's cool, he/she is a WildCard. If you don't want to be on someone's team or think the teams are unfair PM me. I think the teams are fair, that's why I made 'em. Charley and EPMD are both strong poets and from what I've seen excellent organizers of poets. This doesn't have to be the order you write the poem in either, you can even talk over team strategy before you get the details for the contest.

i don't mind where i get put. i'll do my best regardless and try to enjoy the challenge of writing with multiple others! :)

I promise not to be an albatross around your neck.:eek::eek:

You'll be a millstone around EPMD's neck, not mine ::evil laughter:: Just kidding. I'm happy that someone brand new is willing to take part in the contest.

So the possible dates are next saturday/sunday, mid-week Feb 3 and 4, a following weekend of feb 13/14. UYS can't do it this coming weekend? Everyone please weigh in on the date you'd prefer. Remember, you'll have two days to write your two stanzas, it shouldn't take up all the time in your weekend, if you work on those days I'm saying if you have forty minutes free on two consecutive days you should still be able to do your part. Not that I know your creative process, or life schedule, just please be a little flexible considering there's about a dozen of us trying to coordinate times.
