2010 Team Poetry Olympiad Extravaganza

My chick likes this song more than she likes me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd-A-iiPoLg

I've written some poems off it. I'm not much of an Iron and Wine fan, but this is a nice video and song.
The song is a little too slow and lazy for me, but thanks for sharing, B, I enjoy discovering new bands.

Here is a reworking of Nancy Sinatra's 'These boots are made for walking' by a one-man Portuguese band (guesting actress Maria de Madeira) It hisses sexy - rowr - I ADORE sexy!

Back to me for a minute :) I got approved to launch my project on this arts site. I wrote this verse novel and am trying to get the first book of it published. If anyone wants to check it out, or just see me on video off the cuff and a little awkward, here you go:

I don't think it's a commercial site or an actual business.

Actually, just any general thoughts on it would help me out. I'm not really sure a verse novel is the sort of thing that gathers enough interest to fund itself like painting, film, or a musical project. Can't hurt to try.

MAJOR CONGRATS! :D:kiss::rose:

omg, bflaggy! u never said u were a hottie!

Can I ask what your intentions are for the novella? What exactly is the funding going to be used for? Are you going to be looking for a traditional publisher or going the way of Amazon print-on-demand and Kindle?

Um. Hi. You are adorable.

And this is a totally awesome site. I have a million questions.

Um and you have a great chest. You should have made one of the options: $100 and I will take off my sweater real slow.

I am sorry, I am totally objectifying you. Please don't be mad. But if you are, feel free to push up your sleeves, squint your eyes and give me a realllly stern look.

Seriously. A very cool project. I wish you the best!:)

I'd like to get it in print and read by more people than a couple of my friends. I need a serious editor, I have an idea of a few that aren't too pricey. The design of the book I think I can do for cheap through a friend. I'll most likely use some print on demand when I have it together. I'm sure I'm underestimating the costs, but that's because I'm not sure I could get the necessary amount to publish say 100 additional books after I've met my requirement for the people who donated. I'm familiar with traditional publishing, I definitely wouldn't raise enough money to do what's necessary to put a book in even the amazon store. I probably won't bother with Lib of Congress numbers, formal copyrights, bar codes etc. It's really just about trying to fund a small poetry project that I've sat on for a while now.

PS- Thanks for being kind to me.

Thanks, AnnaSwirls. I'd send you an invitation to my wedding scrawled across my chest, but someone might get mad. The site is maybe only a little over a year old. Painters do real well on it and so do musicians. Some sort of collaborative poetry project could do well, but I'm just trying this novella thing because I think it's fairly unique in the scheme of things.

lulu is relatively easy, and doesn't cost much more to get the bar codes, etc.

Well, I would definitely check out Amazon's print-on-demand service- CreateSpace (on amazon.com, click "Self-publish with us" on the bottom of the page). Free ISBN. I think it's like $40/year to make your book available to bookstores instead of only through Amazon. CreateSpace also gives authors discounts on the purchases of their own books. I have not used it yet, though I have every intention of doing so soon. There may be authors in the Authors' Hangout who could give feedback about CreateSpace.

Also, and I am just throwing this out there, Demand Studios is giving monthly or bi-monthly grants (I think $1,000) to its writers for creative projects. The writer must submit a proposal outlining the project. I don't know if you have ever done any writing for Demand Studios (eHow), but I have done some. It's very easy work and to apply for the grant, you only have to have been active for like 3 months or something like that. Many article topic options.. most articles only have to be 250 words. Just a thought.. I realize it might be a longshot, but hey, it's a chance at $1,000.

Anyway, your novella sounds awesome and I look forward to reading it.

I once wanted to write a whole saga in verse I've still got the beginnings of it tucked away somewheres .... well done you for making it reality

Was that the breed of dogs one you did?

No, those articles were for one of my freelance writing clients. For eHow, I do articles about mental health (depression, bipolar disorder, treatments, etc.). Demand Studios also provides articles to LiveStrong and a couple other websites not just eHow, but they have more topic options for eHow. The articles are short, but it's a very quick $7.50-$15 a piece. (They send out payments twice a week for the articles you have written.)

Amazing! I had no awareness of all these publishing options.
And congratulations to bflagsst for getting your project launched!
