2112: Project Epsilon

Cassandra K. Holden

Cassandra now fully had her attention in the small metallic room and the burly Mr. Thompson.

She looked around, more to try to get away from the unrelenting gaze of Thompson. The room seemed bare. No torture instruments. That was a good start.

The chair in the middle did not seem uncomfortable. Moreover, it was a lot less cold in this room.

Galin Firstorn

Galin was kicked awake. he was in a cold room, with other people. usually he had some trouble getting up for a good five minutes, but he was wide awake. testing? applicant? what the hell was this. he was told to go to a room, that was specialy prepped for him. and the someone started kicking him out of the room. when he was out he stood up. "Ms fields or whatever your name is, if you kick me again, i'm going to take your foot off, and tie your hands behind your back with your arteries." Galin was seriously pissed off about this. he still had no idea where he was, who thes people were, where he was going and why he was here. anyong who hanted to be rude was going to have to put up with a stubborn angry man. "now, if you will kindly go to where we are going, and tell me what's going on here, i'll be happier."

Lauren H. Byrnes

"My parents died 2 weeks after I was born" Lauren said with restrained anger in her voice "probably killed by the likes of you people". And after a thoughtful pause, in her most enthralling voice, she whispered "And I don't really need those pesky restrains, do I?"

Agent Fields

He won't be so brave when I'm through with him.

Ms. Fields pulled out a small Taser and smiled as Galin backed away from the arching electricty.

"I assume you will take that last statement back. Now get in that room and sit down."

He shot her a look that could only be described as hateful.

"You have been recruited into a military operation known as Project Epsilon. You have the fortunate advantage of having special abilites that we are looking for."

She sat down and looked him in the eyes.

"Have you ever experienced anything unusal, or out of the ordinary?"

Galin Firstorn

Galin sat down in a chair, not the one she obviously wanted him to sit in though. "listen, i'm not doing anything, with my own will, untill i know what im doing ehre. selected for Epsilon? first, whats that? why do they want me? what does it do? and why have a been forced into this?

"about your question, unusual to you, maybe, unusual to me,, not anymore. i can move things. i believe it's call telekinesis, but i don't know if thats exactly what my power is, or if it stretches further."

Agent Fields

"Your behavior should represent you position, and I believe that you are in no position to make demands. However, since you admit that you are a telekenetics, I can dispense with the informalities." She shifted in her seat and sat back.

"Project Epsilon is a secret agency within the American governement designed to use powers, like yours to protect the citizens of this country. You have been selected for a great honor, the honor of keeping your country safe." She leaned in close to his face, " As long as you continue to cooperate, you will find that things go well for you here, and indeed you will have more freedom and power than your fellow citizens. However, your government needs you, one way or another."

Galin Firstorn

Galin nearly laughed. "things will go well for me here? i'm kicked awake and pinted at with tasers. yes, nice a cozy, just like home.

"and is this so secret that i am not even asked wether to do this? i might get more freedome and power than the average citizen, but will i be stocked up in here? never to see the light of day unless i'm of in Columbia, fighting drug loards fighting their way into the States"

Kelson nods at Lauren.

"You are correct, though it was slightly longer then two weeks according to my paperwork, the attack occured fifteen days after conception...father survived another three days. It was better he die though then continue suffering as he had."

A thoughtful look momentarily crossed Kelson's face then passed.

"I'm not here to make you hate me or this organization. I'm here to train you to protect your government and people, like your parents, from the terrorists out..."

Kelson swept his arm all around.

"Both inside and outside this nation are enemies, with the powers we will teach you to harness, you'll learn how to prevent the same types of violence as claimed the lives of your parents. By the way, if it is any consolation to you, my paperwork listed your parents' three assailants...they were all executed the day your father left this world."

Agent Fields

Agent Fields had had enough of his posturing. She reached out and lightly stroked his cheek letting him see flames dance across her arm and sending the message to his mind that his skin hot with proximity. She concentrated on building the sensation untill she was sure the man before her was experiencing the most intese pain he had ever know, being burned alive.

She sat back after a moment with a pleased smile on her face as aftershocks of pain ripped through his body.

"I don't need a Taser, and when the time comes, neither will you."

ooc: sorry for the blatant Matrix rip-off

Thompson, looked at his subject, and thought, this might be one that was going to take some sweat. Cracking his knuckles, he said, ‘Ms. Holden, could kindly sit up on this chair over here.’

‘Thank you. I’ll now put the straps on if you please. These will prevent injury to yourself.’

Cassandra was getting scared now, the whites of her eyes showing, but she followed Thompson’s suggestion. Besides, he was bigger than she was.

‘Now, let me start from the beginning.’ Thompson relaxed, never taking his eyes and hands off Cassandra.

‘You know that we here in America have a privileged life. We are privileged to have the freedom and the peace that we enjoy. It would be a shame if anyone would threaten this privilege. That is what you are here for. To serve and protect this privileged life.’

‘But don’t the police and the sorts do that already? I don’t see why would anyone want to threaten America.’

Laughing at the naive, Thompson replied, ‘It is often the hidden dangers that need to be confronted. You’ll understand more later about the meaning of hidden dangers. But for now, I am here to evaluate you on the extent of your gifts. You didn’t think you’re here on holiday, did you?’

Cassandra K. Holden

Cassandra had began to really understand the meaning of fear back in the cell when she woke up. Now in this threadbare room, she had begun to understand the meaning of pain, the mental kind.

Thompson, with his piercing brown eyes, caressed Cassandra’s arms in a slow motion. His hot breath was at her ear. He felt so strong and powerful, thought Cassandra. It was like he was sending messages but no one was receiving at the moment. Cassandra’s mind was screaming, telling her to fight the nausea and danger, but the straps were holding firmly. He was asking the same question over and over again. Cassandra kept on struggling, but to no avail. And each light touch brought increasing pain.

‘…where are you Cassandra…’

Cassandra’s eyes started tearing, the straps started to bite on her skin. All she could think about was the pain and the question.

‘…where are you Cassandra…’

‘…I’m not here…’

Lauren remained silenced for some seconds, tears forming in her deep blue eyes and rolling in rivulets down her cheeks. A myriad of thoughts, long gone memories and pre-cognisant future scenarios came rushing to her mind in those few seconds, a sudden awareness of all the times people had done exactly what she wanted to, even in situations when all reasoning couldn't account for those actions. She realized than she had never been contradicted until this very day, everyone had always gone out of their way to do whatever she wanted. She remember how she quit College Debate Team because it was too boring, wining all the rounds. In just one second, she understood why she was here. She had felt compelled by the old man's will when he touched her. I must have that same capacity to impose my will on others! Perhaps even better, since I don't recall having to touch anyone... Could this be it? Perhaps a little test is in order...

"I'm sorry" she said, crying, "I understand now. I want to help. Really!" Coughing a little, holding back the tears, Lauren looked into Eversilver's eyes and, after a taking one deep breath, "Could you please just tell me were the rest room is, please? (sniff) I need to compose myself...

OOC: please check the OOC thread before replying, Kelson

Galin Firstorn

Galin's face eased itself from it's scrunched up pain and he slumped back into his chair. breath comming heavy. "this.... is really.... the way to get.... me to co-operate. keep going maam, maybe i'll turn into your whipping boy."

putting his pained sarcasm aside, he again spoke. "it doesn't matter though, i'm not going to step into some restraining chair untill i know the answers to my questions."

OOC: woah, sorry about the spelling in the last post lol

The mighty p.o.'d Agent Fields

"Galin, Hon..." Her voice was dripping with sarcasim, "I don't want to hurt you, but the fact is I can, and if I need to break your spirit I will, because your ego is getting in the way of your duty to your country." She rubbed her hands together in a most menacing fashion.

"Now, I'll play along with you for a minute, and as long as you play nice, I'll answer your questions." She stepped over and ran an hand down the cheek that was still tingling with sensations.
"Besides, we're going to be in each others' company for a LONG time, why not make it a good time?"

OOC: Heeeello Mrs. Robinson!

"I'm sorry Miss Byrnes, but you are not allowed to leave just yet. Do you understand where you are and why you were brought here?"

Lauren H. Byrnes

"Not really..." Lauren was confused. Was she wrong? She thought she had understood this, but either she was deluding herself, or this guy was resisting her charms... Maybe he got some special kind of training? She needed to find out more about this, and seeing she wasn't going o be able to sneek out after all, it was propably wiser to play along. "...Could you please explain it to me?"

Galin Firstorn

Galin felt her warm hand on his cheek. that warmpth reminding him of what had just happened. "make this a good time? i'm all for having a good time. but i can't do that, and you can't do that, if we're both angry. tell me what i'd like to know, and explain whats going on, and i'll be happy, and i wont piss you off anymore i'll bet. and hey, i may even agree with what you want to do to me. never know.

"er.... how long are you going to be with me?"

OOC: mrs robinson?

Cassandra K. Holden

Deep in the recesses of her mind, Cassandra was envisioning that she was far away, amongst the beautiful rose bushes that her mother had painstakingly cultivated. The yellow and the red, the blue and the black. The black was Cassandra’s favorite, it was more of very deep violet rather than actual black.

The pain momentarily stopped.

Thompson looked around him in amazement. The cold bare room was now filled with roses and rose bushes. All the colors. He flinched, losing contact, when a small thorny black rose bush appeared in front of him.

Thompson re-engaged his contact, his cold balmy hands jolting Cassandra back from the corner of her mind. The room reappeared as it was before.

Ms Fields

Fields walked over to the wall behind the restraining chair and pushed a hidden button. Out of a large hidden recess swung a computer terminal and what appeared to be some sort of virtual reality mask.

"We all have powers Mr. Fristorn, this machine will simulate events and then register the reactions taking place in your cerebral cortex, more specifically in the area known as Jefferson's Lobe. With this information we can better train you and hone your natural abilities." She beckoned to him. "Really, it is quite painless, I've done it myself." She stepped back and held up her hands in a gesture of peace.

"I think we've gotten off to a bad start, but we are now members of the same team. Besides, you could be quite dangerous to yourself and others if left alone on the street."

Cassandra K. Holden

‘Cassandra…Cassandra, wake up.’

‘…What..’

‘Wake up Cassandra, the pain is gone. Enough for today.’

Cassandra desperately rubbed her arms, a natural reaction, to see if the burnt marks were going to be permanent. She looked down on the arms, but her skin was still as pale and smooth as ever.

She looked at Thompson, who was now seated on a chair beside her. Her eyes were still showing fear.

Thompson rubbed his chin in deep thought, unsure on how to evaluate the lady before him.

She had the powers of illusion, that was as much Thompson could surmised. Damned real too, especially the thorns. He wondered briefly about the solidity of the forms, but he pushed them from this mind. Another time perhaps.

‘What have you done to me?’

Thompson shrugged before answering, ‘You have been attacked, but of the mental kind. The pain seemed real, didn’t it.’

Cassandra just mutely nodded her head.

‘Now to proceed. You have the ‘gift’ of creating illusions. You have just demonstrated that power. It is unfocused of course, but you are here to be trained on how to focus, magnify and point your powers. You have the honor of being chosen for the defense of your country. Your country calls, are you answering?’

He waited, but not for long. ‘I don’t have any choice in the matter, do I?’

‘No.’

‘What do I have to do?’ Cassandra sighed in resignation, pushing thoughts of escape far from her mind, for now.

Galin Firstorn

Gain got up and stood behind Ms.Fields, looking over her shoulder at the computer. "yeah, a bad start.... i'm willing to forget. painless trainging program? nothing is going to be subliminally put in me? like OBEY? i'm okay with that i suppose, but why am i doing it? what am i doing here?" He stepped back, and looked around the cool coloured room.

Mrs. Fields' Yummy cookies

Fields breathed a sigh, "As I said before, you have psychic abilites, this organisation, the Epsilon Project, was set up to train and harness psychics like us so that we may help and protect our country from forces inside and out." She leaned in a little closer, "Imagine how much good a person like you could do in the event of a riot, you could save hundreds of lives, and help to keep the peace. As for the machine, no subliminal messages, too many of us here in P.Ep. can twist those back on the sender, it's safer to play things straight and narrow when you're dealing with the unknown."
She adjusted the machine and indicated that he should sit.

"I won't restrain you too tightly, but you'd be surprised how many recruits end up levitating the first time they go through this. Can't have a bunch of freshies floating around unchecked."

The Doctor

In his office he had watched as Thompson dealt with Cassandra's illusions. Very interesting, he mused.

He pressed a button on the intercom system.

"Thompson, that's enough for today, get her something to eat and bring her to my office."

He pushed back from his desk with a curious smile touching his lips. Oh the possibilites, these new ones are strong.

OOC: Sorry to jump in on your story, but I thought it would be better to get you interacting with one of the PC's- I hate leaving you all alone!

Galin Firstorn

Galin slowly sat down into the chair. "okay, i'll do this, whats going to happen? whats in the training? oh, and one other thing, so far, this place looks like it could be far underground, where no one would find us. i don't really have any say in what i'm doing do i? if i decide to run, i'll be restrained and bolted into here wont i?"

Fields

"The machine will stimulate sensations and experiences of a mental kind to determine how you will react and what your capabilities may be. It is basically a virual reality set up with an EEG attached. Although there have been certain advances in the technology in the past few years, the technology itself is quite standard." She flashed him a confident grin.

"As for the rest, you can have a tour of the facility later on, you determine for yourself just what the complex has to offer. And yes, we are underground, but we are not mole people, you'll see the sun, but for now we are in a safe place where you can not hurt anyone outside the complex in case your powers get out of control."
