My favorite erotica anthology was really a mixed bag- that' why I liked it. Something for almost every mood. The only common denominator was that all the writers were women. Obviously that won't work here.

Rob had an interesting idea that the theme for the book be writers sitting around at Abs, and the stories could spin off from there. I don't know how well that would work, but it's a possibility. It would be very difficult to pick one style or genre since the writers here are so diverse.

Coming into this a little late, but if I can help in any way, just gimme a shout. I know a fair bit about publishing (anthologies included) and know quite a few published authors (mainly horror writers, but publishing is publishing, right?).

You'll need someone to collect, a RUTHLESS someone to edit, a person in every country to do research re: query and gather publishers and manuscript formats. Timely, I think, (based on my in-tuneness, and intuition with pop culture ) and believe me, when I actually think? The time has always been ripe.

In addition, didn't Boota self-publish? In which case, that route needs PR , which I am happy to lend my expertise, and contacts to. Laurel does a yearly Lit thing, no? Need to read the rest of the thread, but excellent, EXCELLENT idea.

Did I mention, I'd be in? And oh, LOL, now that you posted, and if you go forward, you will need another ruthless someone to read all of those hundreds of submitted stories you'll receive to send thanks, but no thanks notes.

Still an excellent idea. I'm just thinking ahead to various angles, which can't be captured in a brief post. Still, things to think on.

Someone mentioned jokily on the POD thread about collaborating on a book of erotica and it got me thinking.

What if we were to collate a group of short stories from our works and try to get them published as an anthology of erotica. A lot of us don't have enough to publish an anthology on our own, but we are all fairly expert and I'm sure that between us we could probably get a quality story or two in every kink known to man. I have very little experience with publishers, but that which I do have seems to return the intelligence that they're constantly looking for good erotica anthologies. How about it?

I think this could work. Especially if there were several genres represented (like lesbian, horror, humor, etc).
Maybe a poll would work best instead of a general question- like what kind of anthology would you be most likely to buy and then list our favorite choices (strangers, online, long term couples, every mood, etc).

Seriously, anyone who wants to nominate one of their stories for any kind of anthology had better grow a very thick skin (if you don't already have one). Quality is what matters. Many, many of us have stories here that would be suitable, but I doubt very much that there is even one that wouldn't need to be polished.

Honest opinions are what matter, too. Sod hurting feelings, this is the real world.

I'll get on board with the ruthless part. I can be quite good at it. You're right that anyone who wants to be part of it needs to be ready to get lots of input and do lots of polishing.

Lou...i don't think that can be emphasised too much. this is going to be ruthless. it is going to be a quality publication and i know i need this kind of thing to find out what i need to do to improve further. I think this could be a great learning experience for anyone, even if their pieve doesn't make the finished article.

I think that the theme will naturally emerge by the nominations. I expect to get enough nominations for multiple volumes, which we can group together by their "feel."
