OOC:

Very well, GrandMage, i bow to your expertise. The pleasure is all yours. Do be sure to administer a sound thrashing though, if the need should continue to arise.
Nothing personal Lord, we're not trying to rag you. You need to pay attention to the postings though. It throws everyone off when you reply and it doesn't mesh with the posts that have gone before you. Your ideas are good, you just need to read your message a second time before you hit the submit button. Trust me, it will make a big difference.

Galyn

Looking back at the other wizard, Galyn moves to release the book, but instantly feels a sense of possessiveness take hold of him. Noticing nothing amiss, and embracing what should be an alien feeling but instead feels like his own, he yanks back on the book and clutches it to his chest. Gesturing, he teleports a short distance away, gazing back at Grilam defiantly.
"Why shouldn't I carry it? I found it, I fought it, and I won it. You just want it 'cause you think it'll make you more powerful. Well, it's mine, see, it's mine!"
Unbeknownst to him, the Book's ethereal tendrils worked their way ever deeper. Raising his hand, now completely enthralled by the tome's dark powers, he chose a spell from among his repertoire, one that would both transport him away and stun his companions long enough to facilitate his escape. A ray of light lanced down from the heavens, bathing him in its glow, and blinding everyone around with its radiance. When it disappeared a moment later, nothing was left where he stood but an oilly stain, proof enough of the dark burden he carried.

Denoitnem:

I listen to Gayln's nonsensical rambling and I suddenly understand. Looking at Grilam, I connect with him, as he reads my thoughts (figuratively). Suddenly, the sky opens and a bright ray of light engulfs Gayln. I close my eyes and take a couple of steps into the light hoping that I wouldn't have to transport back from Pluto or Uranus.

Inside of the light, I try to open my eyes; but, it seems that the spell Gayln cast blinds all those in the area, including him. With that in mind, I twist my fingers and my eyes are covered with a pair of welding goggles. It still feels as though we are flying toward some unknown destination. Looking around, I see that Gayln is gripping the book with undue strength as he clenches his eyes shut. Moving closer to the wizard, the light begins to fade as the teleportation comes to a close.

Only one option now, I think to myself as I shrink to a miniscule speck, riding on the wizard. With that, the light ceases to be and Gayln opens his eyes tentativly, blinking in the darker environment.

sorian

as i watch the struggle i figure i might aswell come and watch but with a little style.with that i summon a pair of ultra dark sunglasses.and walk behind graylin.just as the light came i had put my hand on his sholder to help sooth his nerves but was suddenly wisked away with him barley able to keep my grip.'oh great first i get lost and now this.what next.' i thought as i shut my eyes .

OOC: I shall use the stick upon all those who dare to defy the laws of logic and reason! And no, Blaze, you can't borrow it. The pleasure is all mine. And Lord, I know reading everything takes a little time, but skimming isn't helping you at all...

lmao....now i just gotta skim through the rest :-D

Lord

In the hospital, Lord goes insane and starts smacking the nusre until they knock him unconcious

Grilam the Black

He blinked. Everyone was gone? What the Hell was going on today? And what was this about....Oh no. "Denoitnem sent someone else to pick up a book that he shouldn't even have. Great. Pure genius going on around here. Why don't I just go shove my head in a blender?"

He huffed, and looked around. "And where in the name of magic is Lord? Did they lose him? Oh, screw it."

Being a master of the Dark Arts, he opened his mind to The Book, feeling its pull. After a few minutes of searching, he found an out-of-date teleportation room, and used his own magic to boost the ailing teleport spell until he shaped it a good mile away from the books location, and teleported himself.

"No reason to go directly there. That'll only make him run again. Or worse-do something even more stupid."

Glaferin

Oc: Been gone a while, and to busy to be useful, god I love my job...

Ic: All the while with the many exciting things happening over at the Library I had been a little busy... I rolled over in bed. After a while a thought came to me out of the misty depths of my very addled brain... "I should call up and check on Grilam.." and a few minutes later putting thought into action I actually managed to open my cell phone.

I waited for the ringing to stop and Grilam to pick up the phone.. "Damn as usual the bloody bloke has gone off and done something where he can't reach his phone right at this moment.." I fumed... "Oh, hi yes, Grilam old buddy, how are things and all that, any more trouble with that Haze thingie... Well, since this is your voice mail, just call me back on my phone, you know the number quite well.. it spells out IMA-DRINKER, well talk soon..." I managed to get out before the voice mail beeped me off. "Damn voice-mail" I said as I got up to take a shower, taking the phone with me because everyone always calls when your in the shower.

OOC:

To all, I'm giving BlazeofLife (Gayln) another day to respond. If not, I'll grab the book and continue with the story line. Ciao for now!

To Glaferin, ol' chap, welcome back *winks and nods affirmatively*

Lord

OOC: I like being knocked out. Lets me watch the storyline :)

Glaferin

I was in the shower alright when the phone rang... Leaping from it and almost cracking my head on the marble sink counter didn't improve my attitude very much when I answered it. "Hello?? Helllloooo!?! (Mr. Glaferin Pilobulus??) Ummm... who is this?? (John, with American Rutabaga Farmer Monthly, and I was wondering Mr. Pilobulus if you would care to..) No, this isn't Mr. Pilobulus, it is Mr. Stalin (Oh, well, Mr. Stalin would you care to buy a subscription to America...)" SLAM! went my phone after I punched the off button.... "Damn telemarketers..." I grumbled as I stepped back into the shower. "I wonder what the bloody hell Denoitnem and Grilam are up to now??" I thought as I proceeded to go back to washing my beard.

OOC:
Okay, Blaze, if you want back in, just come back. But, for now, I'm gonna keep things going.

Denoitnem:

I look around me at our new environment. The desert is warm and the sky is clear. After the bright light wears off, Gayln looks around also. His gaze finally settles upon Sorian who had jumped into the light with us. Growing uneasy, Gayln tightens his hold on the book. His knuckles turn white as he begins to absorb more energy for another transport. As the light begins to grow, so do I.

Just as the light totally engulfs Gayln, I grab the book and my full form tackles Sorian, moving us both out of the light. Gayln disappears and I keep his only large source of power. If he wants back, he'll have to do it with his legs or his thumb (hitchhike).

My parrot cackles and laughs at me, "Awk, you're in the Southern Kingdom, awk!" I repeat his words, not realizing that he said it first. Looking around, I realize that the sun is setting. That means instant freezing temperatures.

"Ho hum, Sorian, we have only two choices: Either I use the Book to return us to my castle or we set up camp. If we set camp, we cannot leave til morning; but, if I use the Book, I risk falling victim to the power."

Looking at the horizon, I listen to my parrot parroting my words. What was that? I think to myself as I see, or imagine, a figure on the horizon--one with a pointy hat.

Grilam the Black

Grilam wandered close, and noticed that Gayln was gone, and Denoitnem and Sorian are there. He removed the pointy hat he was waering, collapsed it, and shoved it in a pocket.

"Hey. How are you guys? Wanna hand over the book so we can go home?"

sorian

whispering to denoitnem "i think we should camp here tonight and not let anyone use the book.it seems to engulf the user in its power and controls him." i said

Denoitnem:

"Ho hum, Grilam, do you think that's wise?" I ask the mage as he requests the Book. "After all, you saw what it did to someone who is new to the magical arts. We know that since it is magic--and evil--it effects magical persons like ourselves.

"Indeed, the only reason I have yet to use the Book is the high risk that I would be pulled toward the unspeakable darkness that is within these old covers."

Suddenly, as the parrot is repeating my bossy words, I change my mind and hear the parrot echo my thoughts aloud, "Then again, Grilam, you would be well suited for this task, as you are a dark wizard. Can you handle it?"

I hold the book toward him, fearful of removing my vice grip. We could well be stranded out here if we do not use the Book. But, the consequences are high. I realize that my own desires for the power of the Book are strong. I will surpass them and keep the power harnassed. I eye Grilam to see if he takes the book as a burden or a delight.

Grilam the Black

"Of course I can handle it. I mean, I'd be a pretty poor Dark Wizard if I got ensnared by a book, wouldn't I?"

He grinned at his own joke, but his face turned serious as he took the book. After a few moments of staring at the book in his hands, he opened it, and began flipping through the pages, completely ignoring the spells. After several minutes, he came to a page that held many magicial symbols. After tracing a few with his fingers, the book let out a high-pitched whine and slammed shut.

Grilam barely managed to snap his hand back as the pages closed. He held it in one hand, and looked up at the others. "Okay. Now that those annoying spells are turned off, how about we get home?"

And with that, the normal effects of a teleportation spell began as he waved the others to him. Soon, they were all on their way back to Denoitnem's. "Oh, by the way, nice parrot."

Denoitnem:

Satisfied that Grilam can handle the book, I watch as he removes the spells for the time being. We float through nothingness as Grilam teleports us back to my place.

With a thud, the three of us tumble, from a portal ten feet above my courtyard, into the ground. "Nice landing, hot shot!" My sarcasm drips as I address Grilam. The portal closes behind us and I crawl back to my feet.

Stretching in the moonlight, I walk briskly back toward the French door. Inside, I lead Grilam and Sorian up to my study. Motioning the two wizards to be seated, I press the button on the wall, "Nurse, have you cured Lord yet? Is he sane again? Will he stop confusing the laws of reality? If so, send the chap up here to my study."

Then, I take a seat in the comforable recliner, as my parrot climbs to the top of the back. Swaying innocently, he glares at my guests as if determining which to eat first. Just as I'm about to say so, he lets out a high pitched yell, "So guys, what can we find in the Book, and what about in your toys, Grilam?"

Grilam the Black

He blinked, and looked around before turning back to Denoitnem. Staring at the high wizard as if he was crazy, Grilam idlely flipped through the pages of The Book.

"What can we find for what?"

OOC:

I'm back now, sorry I've been gone so long, my computer decided it would be fun to re-format itself and kill my internet connection. It took me until now to get my system online again. Nice work Denoitnem, I wasn't sure where I was going with that last thread and you set things up nicely. Let's see if we can get everything working smoothly again.

IC:

Galyn

Looking around, his eyes still smarting from the intensity of his light spell, Galyn sees that Sorian has followed him, and immediately begins to marshall his strength for another escape spell. His energies pour forth, but just as they start to manifest around him, Denoitnem appears, seemingly from nowhere, and the Book is torn from his grasp. Too far into his spell to retaliate, he can only stare in shock as he discorporates and disappears from sight.

Moments later, he materializes amidst a field of grass near his home. Staring disparately at his empty hands, he feels a strange sense of loss for his missing burden, replaced quickly by rage.

"They dare to take things from me!?!"

Stretching his mind toward his quarry, he begins to slowly draw power from his link to the Book, his efforts hampered little by the distance between them, but his efforts are soon rebuffed as the link begins to attenuate, and suddenly vanishes. He blinks, his senses reeling, as his mind races for an answer.

"Grilam", he thinks. "Surely no one else could have shut down the link with the Book without forging one themselves."

His own energies depleted, he contemplates what little he was able to draw from the book, and attempts to formulate a spell to return to his former companions. A sane fragment of his mind tries to assert itself, screaming for caution, that he will atomize himself trying to transport with too little power, but he pushes it back down ruthlessly. Casting caution to the wind, all sense of self-preservation destroyed by his rage at the theft of his book, he gathers his power to himself and steps into nothingness.

The grey mists of oblivion rush by him, as expected, but instead of the entrance back to contemporary reality, he finds only endless nothingness. As his consciousness begins to fade, and his thoughts turn to blackness, the last meager scraps of the man he once was are cast away, and he gives himself entirely to his rage and despair.

Suddenly, the mists begin to churn, and a dark cloud emerges from them. Roiling angrily, it resolves into the hazy shape of a man. The man-shape extends a hand toward him, and helps him to rise. The voice that emerges is surprisingly quiet.

"I recognise the pain and anger in your heart, my friend. I, too, have suffered at the hands of those who wronged you. Open yourself to me, open yourself to my power, link to it, and you will no longer have need of your book, or indeed, any tome writ by mortal hands. Join me, and I offer you the power and the chance to destroy all those who have oppressed you. Come. The time has come for these upstart mages to learn the true meaning of power."

Gazing upward, Galyn senses a kindred spirit in the figure before him. Grasping the other's hand, he rises, and joins him as they together exit the ether to reality.

sorian

feeling a shift in the balance between dark and light i say to denoitnem "somethings wrong here, can you feel it,something is deffinetly wrong." i sit down rubbing my head as a headache begins behind my eyes."there is something wrong"

My parrot screams a response to the wind and flies from his perch. I watch Grilam flip through the Book, nonchalantly. "Grilam, we need something to combat the haze that is our enemy." I look at the wizard as though he has gone mad. I know that by disengaging the spells in the Book, Sorian has lost all power from it.

My Jedi-like friend, Sorian, suddenly shrieks, "Something's wrong here. Can you feel it? Something is definately wrong!" He looks around nervously and rubs his temples, "There is something wrong."

"Sorian, good chap, are you feeling well?" I looked at the nerve-wracked wizard. Remembering that Lord still has not returned from the infirmary, I think about sending Sorian to join him. Perhaps I will start a magical lunatic asylum.

Unfortunately, that is when I hear a darkness echo through my brain. A memory of something yet to happen. I see my old friend again choose the dark side; but, this time, he takes a new friend--Gayln.

"Oh, shit." I think aloud. Explaining quickly to my compatriots, "I think Gayln has teamed up with our foe." That being said, I watch as eyes widen and mouths frown. "I suppose, old chap," I address Grilam, "that you should find something to combat this presence, post haste. After all, are you not the dark wizard, here?"

Glaferin

After drying my beard and dealing with two more telemarketers I decide to ring up Denoitnem this time and not Grilam. "Bastard probably hasn't even checked his voice mail yet today..." I grumble aloud as I hear Denoitnem's phone ringing.. When he picks up the phone I cheerily say "Pip pip and Tally ho there old bean, and how are things going for the Oh Holy and High Great Wizard?"

Denoitnem:

Grabbing the ringing phone from the table beside me, I listen to Glaferin's excited greeting.

"Glaferin, what are you talking about holy and high business? I suppose I'm doing well, old chap. If you'd join us, we'd be doing even better." With that, I explain our current situation to the alcoholic wizard. "Hope I'll see you very soon," I say as I put the phone down.

"What, Grilam?" I ask the dark wizard when I notice his uncomfortable look at me.

SORIAN

turning a paler white ten my normal white i turn to denoitnem."this is bad, i know not how to explin but this poses a very big problem." i said as i turn to grilam."you being knowledgable in the black arts know what i'm talking about." i said as i reach in my pocket and take a couple aspirins.
